My schnauzer poodle was so damn smart. And vindictive. I shaved her mustache off once. She got on the kitchen table and knocked all my college papers and books on the floor when I left. She never got on the table before or after.
My standard poodle is very smart in some ways but his fighting instincts are non-existent. Everything is friend-shaped to him and he seems genuinely perplexed when other dogs act aggressively. He once ran up right up, tail wagging, to a black bear, trying to play. The bear ran away thankfully.
It’s just that poodles are very stubborn and difficult for inexperienced people to train and handle. As someone who got railroaded by a poodle that outsmarted me at every turn.
