Not a German shepherd.. this is a mix breed..

And the black dog wasn't focused on the kid, but on the dog.. kid was just in-between..

But both owners suck to have their dog unleashed in their neighborhood

u/Seagullsaga 17h ago

Looks more like a mal to me

u/tylnr 16h ago

Not a mal's build, it kinda looks like either a cur mixed with a GSD or mal

u/Funkymunkynl 17h ago

Not a mal to.. its a mixed breed with what i donno..

u/S3CR3TN1NJA 16h ago

I have a GSD mix almost identical to this one. (55% GSD, 30% Pit, 15% Boxer)

u/Funkymunkynl 15h ago

Haha do wonder what the hell his character is like?

Boxers can be dominant and energetic and stubborn

Germen shepherds the same but not stubborn

Pitt not really familiar with then much negative news.

u/S3CR3TN1NJA 13h ago

She's definitely unique haha. But I'd say like 90% of her temperaments align with GSD, but her energy levels probably closer to a boxer. Her pitty really doesn't show in behavior or looks.

u/FustianRiddle 1h ago

So she doesn't like to lay with you and try to crawl into your skin? (Lots of pitties I've dealt with in life love their human and has no concept of personal space)

u/Money_Shoulder5554 12h ago

It's a mutt

u/CraigLake 16h ago

This is posted all the time and you’re exactly right. Dog was running over to say hi to the Shepard.

Both owners suck.

u/Dumeck 16h ago

I'm leaning towards this too because the dog didn't seem in aggressive mode. I do think the dog was running at the kid first though, I think the idea was to play because it was wagging it's tail and the Shepard seemed to only go defensive when the kid panicked. The dog ran away when the Shepard shut him down but was wagging it's tail until the owner scolded it. You can never really tell though because some dogs will attack especially kids even in "play mode" with no aggression signs.

u/DesperateButNotDead 16h ago

I am not sure what's truly going on in that video, but it is important to know that tail qagging does not mean friendliness. It means excitement. A dog can be excited about ripping your throat out.

u/Dumeck 15h ago

There is actually different wag types, dogs that are excited do wags with their tail up in a rapid pace. This dog kept it's tail down and was doing broad wags which implies happiness, the tail being down more shows tentativeness as well. This makes sense because the dog backed off really quickly. Dogs that are super excited lose focus and oftentimes that leads to them falling back on instincts, which also typically results in them getting tunnel vision and having a one tracked mind.

This is why you can see videos of dogs, mostly pit bulls, ripping off someone's arm while wagging excessively. They were bred to have the attack instincts maximized so their default when they get too excited and default to their natural instinct it can often times be dangerous.

Also I'm not arguing your point, I think In situations like this you can never be sure what that dog would do. He could have gotten to the kid and immediately started biting and pulling his arm and when kids are that young a dog of this size can cause a lot of heavy damage. You can never trust strangers dogs around kids.

The boys dog didnt chase nor run off property. I genuinely don't understand why both owners suck when only one dog was out of control?

u/OutsideImpressive115 17h ago

Yeah looks like the other dog was wanting to play with the dog. But STILL would have been terrifying for the kid. Well done German shepherd

u/Funkymunkynl 17h ago

Not a German shepherd but otherwise yeh your right.. as a kid i would shit my pants to

u/MammothWrongdoer1242 10h ago

Not to mention, what parent let's their kid get that close to the road?

u/DonerBodybuilder 16h ago

Most likely an Anatolian shepherd.

u/Pandering_Panda7879 13h ago

Kangal, but yeah

u/Greuliro 16h ago

Looks like Belgian shepherd to me

u/AirconGuyUK 14h ago

Yeah, I think the black dog running over is just over socialised and wanted to play. The moment he realised he was in trouble he was screeching and running away.

Learned a lesson that day!

Source: I walk my dog a lot and over socialised dogs running over and getting a bollocking by my dog is a near daily experience. Looks exactly like this lol..

u/Pandering_Panda7879 13h ago

It's a Kangal, not a mix

u/WhereDidAllTheSnowGo 7h ago

Finally, the only correct answer

u/therealOGZ24 2h ago

Black Mouth Cur

u/MjollLeon 18h ago

Some German Shepard’s do look like that even as purebreds

u/Smmmmiles 17h ago

This one doesn't have froglegs so it's definitely not a show breed at least.

u/Funkymunkynl 17h ago

No they dont..

I own German shepherds my whole life.

And German shepherds pure bred need to uage specific traits and coats and color.. height etc..

The Exclusion (1933/1959)In the last century, the German breed club changed the rules. The white color was deemed undesirable for a working dog (as they were less visible among the sheep or, conversely, stood out too much during police work). Since that time, white has been a disqualifying fault within the German Shepherd breed standard. Therefore, a white German Shepherd is not allowed to participate in official shows, and breeding with them is not permitted within that breed standard.

And this dog also miss the body type for a german shepherd.

Proportions and SizeLonger than tall: The German Shepherd is not a square-built dog. The torso is elongated, meaning the body length should be roughly 10% to 17% greater than the height at the withers.Height at the withers: Males should stand 60 to 65 cm tall (weight: 30–40 kg). Females are 55 to 60 cm tall (weight: 22–32 kg).Topline and BackFlowing topline: The topline runs without visible interruption from the base of the neck, over the well-developed withers, and across the straight, very powerful back, down to the slightly sloping croup.Slightly sloping: The back slopes subtly downward from front to back. Note: Extreme, "roached" or over-angulated hindquarters (sometimes called frog legs) are increasingly penalized in modern breeding; the back must remain functional and strong to support smooth movement.Chest and BellyDeep chest: The chest cavity is moderately broad but deep (measuring about 45% to 48% of the height at the withers). The ribs are moderately sprung (neither barrel-shaped nor flat).Tucked-up belly: The belly line is slightly tucked up toward the rear.Limbs and GaitAngulation: Both the front and hind legs are strongly angulated. This creates the typical, ground-covering gait (the trot). The dog must be able to take massive strides with minimal effort.Feet: Round, short, tightly bunched/closed, and featuring very hard paw pads.

This dog is 100% not a German Shepherd pure bred

u/Sea_Soft_1166 13h ago

Yeah but "dog runs to play with dog" wont get many upvotes

u/OkJunket1385 17h ago

Could be a silver shepherd. Either way, it's not the cruel breed of shepherd that has premature hip issues.

u/Doglover20child 15h ago

That is a German shepherd, the owner confirmed it themselves. They have MANY different color variations that make them look mixed or like a different breed.

u/Funkymunkynl 15h ago

It's not a purebred .

You can say owner confirms it.. doesn't mean jack shit.

His body aint in the neighborhood of a german pure bred.

Tbf the breed standard is pretty awful. They say:

The tendencies toward exaggeration and steep angles are unacceptable.

But then the drawings they use show exactly that.

u/Funkymunkynl 14h ago

The first 2 drawings are strong builds.

The i have seen the exaggerations and those mfs look like a water slide so steep

u/D1rty_Old_Dan 16h ago

Yeah, looked more like a golden retriever/yellow lab than a German Shepherd.
