Yea the payload doesn't rly need to get very close, a lot of the time they just ram you with it.

Well... The main weakness of a drone is the battery life. The Russians tried using horses, which was ridiculed a lot, but it is not a crazy idea to try and outrun the drones battery life.

From what I’ve seen this far, they don’t even bother with the bare minimum, rations are old or nonexistent, stories about how frontline troops don’t even get clean water or proper supplies, most what they get is sent by families that buy it and send themselves ( and even that can be stolen) that’s exactly why Ukraine started bombing all the wildberries warehouses, cause they had SMO sections

None of them do that anymore.
Now they have a detonator stick poking in front of them, and they just ram you with it.

They still use drop drones too. They can provide ISR before and after dropping grenades so they are still useful. Plus they can be reusable.

How many people do you know that can run with full gear and cut direction, dodging risks for 10 continuous minutes.
I had 8 years in, 6 with Marine Corps infantry, and while battle tactics certainly has changed, I'd say 2 minutes till finding a good position is probably longer than what is really possible.

Did you see the ones from last year where the Russian dude is running around the tank with the drone in hot pursuit?
It didn't work out for the Russian.
Those videos over in the /combatfootage sub are brutal.
I saw one from this year where a drone blows a guy in half and part of his body gets stuck in a tree.
Absolutely brutal.

Yeah I must say that watching these videos took a toll on my psyche. Especially the ones were guys are begging/praying before getting killed. Or executed by their own soldiers after getting hit by drones.
Only when the war is over and historians do their thing we will truly start to gasp the numbers and horrific stories.

One of my mates nearly got blown up by one and apparently they were basically playing "peekaboo" round a tree for like 10-20 seconds. He managed to jump behind the tree when it went for him. Fucked up his leg pretty badly but he walked away from it and only found out how bad it was when it was x-rayed. Apparently he can tell when it's going to rain because his leg hurts?

I imagine the dodging aspect isn't so much practicing dodging a drone as it is part of the shooting exercise. Just sitting there practicing pointing your weapon at a moving drone isn't really achieving much, although moving target practice obviously does have its own merit. I imagine he's trying to create a chaotic unpredictable environment and practicing targeting in said environment. And that's pretty spot on for the real thing. The real thing being combat in general, not drone fighting.

Garand thumb brought on a pilot and just got killed again again and again. Theyre dialed in on movement, fast as hell and have every conceivable advantage. There are no viable counters beyond hard cover. Shotgun fudds cope so hard with all their bluster.

In basic they teach you "I'm up, they see me, I'm down" as the tempo for movement under fire.
The goal isn't to not get shot, it's to make the likelihood of the entire squad getting shot lower.
It's like whack a mole, and your the mole.
No one says this though, leading to waves of bodies and egos to fertilize the field.

There’s a video on youtube of a professional trap and skeet shooter attempting to shoot fpv drones… it did not inspire confidence lol.
The problem with it is that there is an incredibly small window between where you could reasonably hit a drone with a choked shotgun and the distance to where even if you nailed it the momentum would still carry it right into you.
Basically the only situation a shotgun is going to do much good is if a drone is chasing a vehicle with the shotgun wielded in bed of the pickup/vehicle or if the drone is passing over the person with a shotgun in an attempt to hit a larger group behind them

I've been clay shooting and even being in a safe and relaxed non warzone environment AND knowing where the targets are coming from it's really hard to hit those buggers.
Being out in an open field, at war, not knowing where the drone is coming from? By the time you hear it I assume you're dead. Having enough time to spot, adjust your body and aim and fire one off before it's close enough, sounds like a hard time.

they're used but still minimally effective, if you are caught in the open and are being chased by a drone, your best option is to off yourself effectively and fast (and many many russians do just that) because it's better than bleeding out slowly with half a face or missing limbs

There’s hundreds of videos of people riding ‘shotgun’ in vehicles knocking drones out of the sky, but there’s a lot more videos of vehicles getting destroyed because the drones move so fast it’s near impossible to hit them.

Ukraine has already found a way, multiple times, it's just not practical, the recoil throws the drones and or cracks the frames, to make the frame stronger you have to use heavier material and you lose range and capability, and it requires precision as you said, which is hard in combat conditions and fewer bullets just means fewer chances of success, you don't have to be precise with explosives, the target just has to be in the blast radius

Finland and Ukraine did joint exercises in the spring. Ukrainian drone operators were brought in to play opposing forces. The Ukrainians were all active duty and had days earlier been hunting Russians with their drones in occupied Ukraine. The Ukrainians massacred the Finns who didn’t have the tactics, experience, training to fend off drone attacks. The exercises had to be stopped early and reset as whole Finnish units took casualties in excess of 50% very quickly and became combat ineffective. It was very sobering to the Finns to see how a highly trained, well equipped army like their could be easily destroyed by drone operators. In the exercise they lost dozens of armoured vehicles far behind the front line as drones easily picked them off.

That's why in Ukraine they aim for the legs. Miss and the impact is close enough, let alone the shrapnel. I have seen the real of the explosive container for these drones, the shrapnel from them is another level.
