SIU does not have "record enrollment." It's their highest enrollment in over a decade. SIU is half of what it was in the 1990's.

SIU has record enrollment too. Tarhule can claim enrollment cliff - but there may be a reason other Illinois schools are growing in enrollment while ISU is not.

From a graph I saw the other day, ISU actually did fairly well compared to some others. Sure it dropped a little, but not nearly like some others have seen. Its all relative.

You may not be aware but even staff/faculty have to pay to park! And with that, they experience the same issues as you and other students. It's ridiculous for everyone. My husband ended up biking often to avoid parking.

Naw, there are just less people to go to college compared to previous generations. Add in tuition prices, rise of AI and lowering immigration rates (who keep us population rates above replacement) there just aren't going to be those bodies to fill said seats

I'm aware of the "demographic cliff". This is what the article is suggesting explains the decline in enrollment. There's no evidence that's what's happening right now at ISU.

There's some suggestion that less white men will be going to college and that there will be less college age kids in the future. This will not be something felt equally throughout the country. Demographic statistics look different on a state by state, area by area, location. Nuance is necessary to understand the unequal impact.

If there is some suggestion but it's not being seen in the data yet, then that should tell us there is an alternative explanation as to why wglt is trying to make those connections now.

My only guess is that the demographic cliff explanation is an anti worker and anti student discourse that helps provide cover for administrative decisions that don't align with student or employee interests.

Classes are likely to stat falling in the coming years. In the 2000s birthrates we're steadily rising, then the brick wall that was the 2008 crash happened and birthrates started declining. The reason enrollment was rising was because it was rising 19+ years ago. Now 18 years from that crash and we are now starting to see the effects the crash had on birthrates or lack thereof

This is the class that was born during the 2008 crash. Birthrates fell sharply after and continue to fall to this day. Expect classes to fall steadily now and likely rise in tuition to offset the falling enrollment

Medium hard. It's worth it to be on top of things so you can get the room. But ultimately it's just about clicking some stuff on a website at the right time. Not impossible.

Because there are. Last year was record enrollment. This is a decline from that. More people are on campus now than they were four years ago.

If the journalism coming from wglt is an indication of your education from ISU then get your money back!

They have 417 less students who enrolled this year compared to last year. Last year was RECORD ENROLLMENT (Just in case you missed the 30 celebratory emails they made letting everyone know). ISU is still ahead of five years ago! Hell they have more students enrolled now than they did two years ago!

Housing isn't gonna change. This is just put out there because the administration is about to enter negotiations with another union they don't want to pay.

Meanwhile. They've just added more Vice Presidents of something. So expect your tuition to rise and your classes to be more packed!
