No need to hit wastelands to get sporting goods soon, I see it’s opening up in a month or so, excellent!!

Any word on the the Pub Banc situation? Have any been sold? Will any remain bars?

u/sw33ttart 7d ago

Pretty sure interstate investors bought the O Bar/Post St building but not the business

u/ragebaitrabbit 7d ago

Aw, that sucks (for the workers mostly) So the Republic is still on the market?

Love the new Launceston store hopefully the Hobart one is even better.

They have a good spot in the old H&M building. Should have a tonne of stuff in there when they open up.

u/eearmenow 6d ago

If they sell very daggy, shit looking Hoodrich apparel, as well as red sneakers, they better have more security than salespeople.

lol. fkn hate that shiz

A butcher on Collins Street and a Rebel sports store opening... in a month?

Jesus, if this is the victory lap, Hobart is doing worse than I thought

u/tassietigermaniac 5d ago

What sports do you use rebel for? I currently go into town and use the variety of shops there for all of my sporting stuff because rebel only has generic brands and no product knowledge

u/BrenBiker 5d ago

Well in general my kids are always after stuff… football jerseys or basketball gear, weights/physio balls, swimming gear, pickleball stuff and/or the occasional ball or bat. We all know they have no product knowledge at Rebel and are mostly kids but can you tell me the secret of these other sports stores in the city that are better that I clearly have not come across…

u/tassietigermaniac 5d ago

For Pickleball / Table Tennis stuff I highly recommend Offcourt Sports. Always had good experiences there.

https://www.offcourtsports.com.au/

I never need football or basketball stuff sorry. I get my swimming gear from Friends Health and Fitness just because I go there anyway.

I never considered the kid angle sorry

u/BrenBiker 5d ago

I like off court sports too, they have pickleballs etc. but they’re closing

u/FriarFookselt 4d ago

So we're losing the good one but we're getting a shitty new one in month?
Yeah... excellent!

u/BrenBiker 4d ago

Yep, Hobart sucks … but then, some may see an opportunity in this…

u/FriarFookselt 4d ago

As John D Rockerfella once said; “every disaster is an opportunity”.
Well, they've certainly charged this city with plenty of "opportunities".
Hopefully we see some big changes this October.

u/tassietigermaniac 4d ago

What??? Noooooo! There goes my sports supplier :(

u/BrenBiker 5h ago

Shopped there today. They’re staying online as the building is being redeveloped so they may reopen elsewhere down the track…

u/tassietigermaniac 4h ago

I hope that's the case. They've always been good to me

We have enough active apparel stores. I just want to buy normal clothes that aren't aimed towards 18 or 60 yr olds

u/Sam-J-Official 6d ago

How does a sport shop stop you from doing this?

u/BrenBiker 6d ago

No other stores in the city sell cricket bats, football boots and soccer balls etc…

u/Miss2war 6d ago

Yea because more people need a frickin cricket bat over clothes, maaaate c'mon

u/BrenBiker 6d ago

There’s how many clothing stores already in the city? One sports shop in town and you’re this upset about it?

u/flabnormal 6d ago

You mean like https://www.offcourtsports.com.au/ in Liverpool St?

u/BrenBiker 6d ago edited 6d ago

Oh, yes, another gotcha hero! They’re closing and only sell tennis and badminton gear. Clearly you never went there. Nice try though….

What was wrong with Intersport in Centrepoint?

If you’re so excited for a new sports store, you should’ve supported the locally owned and operated one.  I’m not excited that the massive, multi-million dollar corporate giant has replaced our local one.

u/BrenBiker 3d ago

Are you claiming I never shopped at Intersport? It was for sale, you should have bought it.

u/JBJB55555 3d ago

Also Offcourts Sports is closing.

We had two locally owned sports goods stores in the city, and now we get one corporate giant.

Are you celebrating the replacement of two locally owned sports stores nearby? If so, that’s terrible.

u/BrenBiker 3d ago

Yep, there is a party at my place tomorrow, we’re popping the champagne come on down! 🤦🏻‍♂️

u/JBJB55555 3d ago

Uh? This comment seems sarcastic, but your post definitely seems celebratory.

Either way, I’ll give your party a miss.

u/BrenBiker 3d ago

🤣 🤦🏻‍♂️ 🥂

u/Sam-J-Official 2d ago

I'm so glad we got a great day for this event. I'm excited for the burning of the local business owner effigies at dusk. Cheers.

u/FriarFookselt 2d ago

Brenbiker and his buddy "Sam-J" are DESPERATE for reasons to party, election soon, crappy bike lane to defend

u/brokenmindedone 7d ago

I'll still go where the free parking is.

u/BrenBiker 7d ago

Sure, but for locals and tens of thousands of CBD workers it’s a huge plus.

u/Sam-J-Official 7d ago

What do locals have to do with the city they live in /s

u/BrenBiker 7d ago

Yeah, screw them for not taking the time to drive to the eastern shore and back for a new pair of football socks /s

u/Sam-J-Official 7d ago

IKR, bunch of elitists and snobs, wanting amenities nearby so they don't have to cram up the roads for stripey socks. So uncivilised /s

u/furiousniall 7d ago

lol at this being downvoted. Classic

u/BrenBiker 7d ago

Yes. The same folks who scream to anyone who will listen that bike lanes have killed the CBD, likewise are annoyed at being wrong when a new store opens up in the otherwise dead city, so can’t admit it and hence only vote with their anonymous thumbs downs…

u/FriarFookselt 6d ago

You had me at "Wastelands"

u/Sam-J-Official 7d ago

They'll love that you called the two of them and their couple dozen accounts 'folks.'

u/Sam-J-Official 7d ago

Sports day on Collins to celebrate!
