Bi-Weekly Self-Promo thread! Please post and flourish(BUT PLEASE read the rules before posting).

# This is the Bi-Weekly self promotion thread.

**It has become clear that there are a lot of herbal small businesses and people in our community for whom their herbal passion is also a business. While Herbal business is not the focus of this sub it is undeniable that herbal business is a part of the herbal community and supporting the herbal community IS what this sub is for.**

To that end, we intend, to start making weekly self promotion threads; where any and all self-promo can take place(with some rules).

**1. No posting self promo outside of the Self-promo-threads**(except by explicit cooperation of the mods, if your an author or publisher or non-for-prophet please reach out to us directly using mod-mail)

**2. NO selling anything that is illegal federally,** or that is illegal in California Illinois or New York or the city of Chicago or that can not be legally sent through the mail.

**3. NO ASKING USERS TO DM YOU!** You may ask users to comment under your post to request for YOU to DM-THEM and you may include links to off-site storefronts but if we see a post soliciting users to PM-you the post will be removed(this is an accountability and user safety rule)

**3a.** this isn't a strict rule, but we would prefer if off sight links lead to a storefront and not directly to a product page. This does not mean that your post can't advertise or show pictures of a particular product or products, however making the attached link lead to your shops front page instead of a specific product page helps users confirm legitimacy safety and overall vibe of vendors. This isn't a rule now but might become a rule if we start getting user complains that we think could be decreased if this became a rule. In the mean time consider it a best practice for this sub.

**And that's it! Have fun Be productive and may the great river of acquisition be quick & calm and flow ever toward profit!**

Recipe Wild Hops

Post image
Upvotes

Good afternoon! I recently foraged some wild hops, and was planning to use it as a tea (once they have finished being dried out) and i was wondering if anyone here has some experience with making a hop tea? Is it simply a case of adding hot water et voila? Or do some of y’all have a fancier recipe?

Valerian root is making me feel too good!

Upvotes

I started taking 385mg of valerian root for sleep, I’ve had it 4 nights in a row and it’s the only thing that has actually helped me to sleep. The problem is I feel TOO GOOD, my anxiety has gone right down, I’m talking to people more confidently and I feel great, the reason this concerns me is because of what’s going to happen when I stop taking it?

How long is it safe to take valerian root? What’s it like when you stop taking it?

And you should know my brain is all kinds of messed up, I was taking citalopram for 7-8 years straight and ever since I stopped taking it 2 years ago I’ve really struggled with sleep and anxiety, to the point where it’s hard to function. I only started taking valerian to get a couple of weeks sleep and hopefully reset but now I’m nervous that it’s gonna set me back even further when I stop taking it.

I stopped taking antidepressants because I want to function as myself with no drugs or medication, but it’s so hard. Any way I’m going on a tangent; thanks in advance for any advice/input :)

Edit: I didn’t mean the title to sound like I’m promoting the herb, it’s definitely helped with my sleep but I know with experience that anything that has positive effects usually has bad ones. I personally don’t like relying on anything to get through the day

Discussion This made me look at Driscoll’s completely differently

Upvotes

I always assumed Driscoll’s actually grew the berries carrying its name. This investigation reports that the company licenses its proprietary varieties to independent growers, while a former food-safety employee alleges serious problems with pesticide compliance. Driscoll’s denies those allegations.

My opinion: if your name is on the package and you control the genetics and branding, you should also take full responsibility for how the fruit is produced. I’ll be choosing local, in-season berries whenever possible after seeing this.

Has anyone here looked deeper into this? I’m curious what other people make of it.

What would be the best method for extracting Mambe? I’ve been trying to do research on the chemical makeup and I’m lost.

Upvotes

The alkaloids are in an acid bound salt form. I was going to just do it in everclear, but the ash the coca leaves brings up the pH to make it absorbable by the mucus membrane, so I was unsure if the alcohol extraction would be useless

Please spare me the legal scolding

White stuff from floating on my oil maceration.

Upvotes

Hello. Does anyone maybe know what this is? I was about to strain my oil maceration and I found it floating on top of my oil (dried leaves of yarrow and lavendel macerated for approx. 6 weeks). It was the only one and the oil still smells fine. I removed it from the oil, it's quite hard, like a little rock. So I'm worried if it's some kind of mould or bacteria? Or if it's just something that happened to be in the plant and I didn't know (I buy my herbs online dried and precut)

Question Ceylon vs Cassia Cinnamon

Upvotes

I love the taste of cinnamon and especially like chewing on the whole sticks. I really do prefer the taste/warm spicy kick of Cassia Cinnamon along with the thicker less splintery texture, compared to the mildly spicy somewhat floral/citrusy flavour and splintery texture of Ceylon Cinnamon.

I like eating the sticks as an alternative to chewing on candy and I find they help a bit with headaches/inflammation and especially with nausea/bloating. In my opinion the Cassia Cinnamon is even more efficient in it's anti inflammatory/nauseau relief effects compared to Ceylon Cinnamon after eating both.

I'm only considering switching to the Ceylon Cinnamon sticks because I'm worried about the higher coumarin content in Cassia Cinnamon, but the taste and effect just really isn't as good and it's way more expensive.

How much of Cassia Cinnamon sticks would you say are safe to eat daily/ every other day compared to say Ceylon Cinnamon?

Is Berberine considered medicinal in the UK?

Upvotes

I am trying to create a product that has Berberine but the company has told me that berberine is considered a medicinal ingredient in the UK and therefore cannot be included in my product. However, I haven’t been able to find any official guidance confirming this.
Does anyone know whether this is correct or where I can find the relevant MHRA guidance or UK legislation? Thank you

Question Fire Cider Storage

Upvotes

I am planning to make my first batch of fire cider this year, and have a question about storing it.

I've read that if you use metal lids, you should place a layer of plastic or something between it and the cider to prevent corrosion. My question is, is that still the case if I'm using Ball lids that are coated?

If I do need to put an extra layer in, are there any suggestions besides plastic?

Thanks!

Question Best herbs for use in cooking with vegan food planted based diet.

Upvotes

Im looking for seasonings and herbs that could be good for herbalism. I also would like a simple book, not too complicated and not too fancy.

Something that is humble.

That would go good with recipes for food and health.

Iso small batch herbs

Post image
Upvotes

I'm ISO herb farmers, foragers or gardeners who grow and harvest naturally. Preferably hand harvested. I'm interested in purchasing herbs I need but cannot source locally from smaller growers/foragers with clear time frames for harvest. I will not need everything but want to establish trustworthy relationships for those I need to add to my apothecary. I may only need small amounts so don't be afraid to respond if interested at all, I'll send you my current need list. Have a beautiful day!

I reviewed the rules and I'm searching for like minded individuals for possible mutual benefit, not promoting anything or soliciting. Please feel free to delete if this is not allowed.

Discussion Soursop Bitters- Let’s Talk Real For A Minute Here…

Upvotes

Tbh my friends- just go buy senna for 3.99 versus a bottle of Soursop for what…30 bucks a bottle?

Tastes like glorified teriyaki sauce. There are bitters that work, this ain’t it.

And those “crazy feelings” that happen in the body after taking that first dose is from the senna. If you want to “gut cleanse” there has to be (is) a better way. This is a colon cleanse which hey- is not too fun.

Imagine doing THAT everyday.

Question Monotropa uniflora tincture question. No alcohol?

Upvotes

Is there any other liquid I can use that is not alcohol, to create a ghost pipe tincture? I’m an alcoholic and even the burn of the alcohol on my lips will send my brain haywire wanting to get drunk.
I’m looking for an alternative that can still create a full spectrum shelf-stable tincture. Anybody have any experience with this?

Honeysuckle|One Herb Each Day

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

One Herb Each Day|Today we explore honeysuckle.

When it first blooms, its petals are snow‑white. Within a few days, they turn soft golden‑yellow. White and golden blossoms grow on the same vine, that’s how it got its name.

As recorded in Compendium of Materia Medica of Ming Dynasty, it was widely known in ancient Chinese folk culture. Villagers would pick its flowers in early summer, dry them in cool shade, and use them for simple herbal infusions.

This is folk‑herbal cultural record only, not medical advice.
