Mine has started getting bald patches, he’s around 2.5 years old. I wonder if there’s anything abnormal about it.

I think about pompoms larger or a little bit smaller than my hamsters head so it’s less likely that she tries to put it in her cheek pouches, though they are fabric-ky so I don’t know if they are safe even though it would be under my own supervision to be sure.

I wanted to upgrade my hamster cage rn I have a 100x50x50 but I just saw a 120cm cage online for around 219 euros but my only worry is that it maybe doesn’t have good ventilation?

Every time I watch a video they have a different opinion about how to supply water, if what’s better, a water bottle or a dish, but that’s not what I came for. My hamster drinks better from a bottle, I can track how much water she drinks and it doesn’t spill no matter what, but I had the doubt about what’s better for her back and instincts: to have a standing up position or a four paws on the ground position when drinking.

Just got my hamster today, is it normal for him to be itching quite a bit? I don’t really see any bald spots or anything (I think) but he seems to be kind of itchy. Should I be concerned about mites? I froze my sprays for WEEKS so I didn’t think anything could survive, but if they did would they infect him that quickly ??? Or is it normal? Thank you! Pic of my cutie: his name is thorfinn!

I have a female Syrian hamster named Chanel. She does not seem to like mealworms and will eat around them in her food 😭 I know she likes chicken because I boiled some and gave her a tiny piece and she was feral for it 🤣 I saw these on Amazon and was wondering if these would be okay as it isn’t possible for me to boil chicken all the time unfortunately.

I got these quinoa puffs for Goober as a snack and he couldn’t care less for them. Didn’t even try to nibble at them.

I thought maybe I could try using them as enrichment instead, a little pretend ball pit. His curiosity is the cutest🩷

I recently adopted a hamster from the pet store, her nails seem to be a lil too long. Should i wait for her to grind them down naturally with her sand bath and rocks I included in her home. Or should i cut them myself before it’s too late? Her feet seem to be just fine no redness on the bottom of them, I just can’t help but think it hurts a lil when she scratches herself…I wish I could talk to her <\3 (sorry I know the pictures aren’t the best)

Hi everyone! I will be getting a hamster October 10th! I've had a hamster before but he passed away in March 😔, so I do have some experience, I already have a 40x20x20 enclosure, and a few supplies like 2 niteangel platforms and a large niteangel wheel, but I need some recommendations for the other supplies, i want to make sure my hamster has the best food and safest toys and other supplies, what are some of the best foods brands? Wheres a good place to look online for supplies other than Amazon? What are some things I need that maybe hamster owners don't realize are important to have?

I’ve had my female Syrian for about 8 days now and today her behavior completely changed today, so I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Last night I let her explore a little bit outside of her enclosure for the first time, mostly just around the top/outside of the bin.

Then today I got home around 3 PM and she woke up almost immediately and seemed like she really wanted to come out. I picked her up and decided to let her explore my bedroom on her own.

She LOVED it. She was running around and exploring everything for almost an hour and honestly probably would’ve kept going, but I had to put her back because I needed to get some work done.

The problem is that ever since I put her back, she has been absolutely obsessed with getting out.

She keeps going around the edges of the bin trying to climb up and find a way out. She also keeps going to the exact corner where I normally pick her up and just waits there like she’s expecting me to come get her again. Even when I’m not interacting with her, she keeps going back to that spot.

Before today she would spend more time on her wheel, sand bath, and messing around with her enrichment, but now she barely seems interested in any of it. Her main goal seems to be getting out of the bin.

For context, she’s in a 50-gallon Sterilite bin with around 8 inches of bedding. She has a wheel, sand bath, and around 4–5 different enrichment things. She does burrow, although she’s mostly made two burrows that she uses as her home.

She’s also been super comfortable with handling since I got her. She doesn’t give me any problems when I pick her up and she loves crawling up my arms onto my shoulders/back.

Is she actually bored or unhappy with her enclosure, or did she just realize there’s a giant room outside of it and now she wants to explore again?

I know female Syrians can be pretty demanding about space, so I’m also wondering if this is a sign I need to change something in her setup.

Has anyone else had their hamster suddenly become obsessed with escaping after their first free-roam session? Should I add more enrichment/change anything, or is she basically just asking me to let her out again?

TL;DR: Had my female Syrian for 8 days. Let her free roam my bedroom for about an hour today and she loved it. Ever since I put her back in her 50-gallon bin, she’s been constantly trying to climb out and waiting in the corner where I normally pick her up. She’s also way less interested in her wheel, sand bath, and enrichment. Is she bored with her enclosure or did she just discover free roaming and now wants out again?
