Discussion How do you think each species of the covenant reacted to the truth of the rings being revealed?

Upvotes

The elites were furious, the brutes and prophets were in denial and if I had to guess I'd say more than a few of the latter were worried about being blamed and subsequently lynched for this. But what about the jackals, hunter worms, drones, and the others?

Discussion How Halo Became a Game Boy Color Game: An Interview With Halo: Combat Devolved Creator Mike Miller

I had the chance to interview Mike Miller, the developer behind Halo: Combat Devolved, an ongoing project that aims to bring Halo: Combat Evolved to the Game Boy Color (and retro handhelds) using GB Studio.

We talked about the difficult process of translating Halo's weapons, enemies, vehicles and levels to such limited hardware, the creative solutions he's come up with along the way, why authenticity sometimes means changing the original game, and what he's got planned for future levels. If you've ever wondered what Halo would have looked like as a '90s Game Boy game, or wanted to hear a bit more about how he's made it all happen this one should be right up your alley!

Help - MCC Was playing halo 4 on PC but the lights blind me

Upvotes

Why the goddamn reflection, gun lights and every source of light is SO DAMN BRIGHT!

I cannot even aim properly sometimes cus the bright effect is too much, i play on 6.5 gamma cus the dark corners are too dark and i prefer overall even lightning in games rather than squinting irl or staring into abyss.

Is there supposed to be some mod or ingame settings to fix this? thank you

Discussion When did coddling the player become the norm?

Thumbnail m.youtube.com

To preface, I wanted a ground up remake of Halo CE after Anniversary botched the job and have been mostly happy with what we got. That said, the design philosophy behind Campaign Evolved does not bode well for future Halo projects.

It is clear that Halo Studios felt it necessary to guide the player more attentively, an odd choice given this is a remake of a 20+ year old game, which makes me question: how bad will the handholding be in a completely new game? God forbid a player gets stuck and has to use a little brain power.

It was a low-profile, fast stealth tank.

It had a "low profile with counter vented fire stabilization", basically the cannon was a giant recoiless-rifle!

And i love image 2, feels like the box of a model kit, or 60s to 80s war art, specially the colors!

Help - General Need help identifying signature on poster

Hi, I got this poster from my local flea market as it came with a Halo 4 Master Chief helmet for 20 bucks. He said something about it being signed in 2022 by someone who worked on the game (idk I was just really excited about the helmet and didn’t pay as much attention as I should’ve) but I can’t identify it. If anyone has anything similar anything would be appreciated

Discussion Need help figuring out what these are

Hello, I am not a Halo player, but I figured the folks here might be able to help.

I got these Halo lego blocks/figures a while back at a yard sale, and I was wondering if they were from one set, a mix, and/or what they were called? I'm also curious what thier value might be, since my son doesn't play with them anymore and I might eventually sell them.

I'm pretty sure they're a few years old as well, since the woman selling them said her kid had gone to college and they had been sitting in a closet "for ages".

tldr: Looking for information because I know next to nothing about Halo lol Thank you in advance.

Discussion Stealth ships. Why not?

Upvotes

This is my second (technically third) post on the subject of how the UNSC could have fought the Covenant more effectively. We already discussed improving UNSC defenses against Covenant weapons, including the possibility of developing ERA shielding earlier in the war. But my second thought is: why does the UNSC have to fight the Covenant head-on in the first place?

EDIT: I'm NOT talking about using Prowlers as combat ships. I'm proposing an entirely new class of large UNSC warships designed around stealth from the beginning. They would use technology derived from Prowler stealth systems, but be much larger, heavily armed, and capable of maintaining stealth continuously.

If you think a large ship couldn't have a sufficiently small sensor signature, consider the B-2 and B-52. The B-2 is a large aircraft, yet its radar cross-section is dramatically smaller than that of the B-52. So I don't see why the UNSC couldn't theoretically build a large warship with a much smaller sensor signature than a conventional cruiser or destroyer.

The ship wouldn't need to be as stealthy as a Prowler. It just needs to be stealthy enough to get into position without being detected.

For example, imagine a Covenant fleet entering a system while one of these ships is hiding behind a moon, using the moon as physical cover from optical and other line-of-sight sensors. An isolated Covenant ship enters the area, the stealth ship comes out, unloads its weapons, destroys the target, and immediately jumps into slipspace.

The real purpose would be to operate behind the front lines and deep inside Covenant-controlled territory, hunting isolated ships, transports, supply lines, repair facilities, communications infrastructure, and other high-value targets.

Then comes the deception part.

Yes, I know space is fucking enormous. I'm not suggesting putting a probe every few kilometers across the galaxy.

The UNSC had 28 years of war. Earth wasn't found on day one. Humanity had hundreds of colonies, shipping routes, military installations, logistical corridors, and entire regions of space that the Covenant had to search and move through.

The UNSC could deploy huge numbers of relatively cheap probes throughout strategically important areas, or use them to make the Covenant think that certain areas are strategically important. These probes could generate detectable signatures, including Cherenkov radiation associated with slipspace activity. Human colonies and military installations could also create false signatures mimicking UNSC ships or fleets.

The UNSC would know which probes were real, which were fake, and when they were supposed to activate through identification systems and timers. The Covenant wouldn't.

That creates a massive intelligence problem.

The Covenant wouldn't know how many UNSC ships actually exist, which contacts are real, which are probes, which are false signatures, or which might be actual stealth ships.

That forces the Covenant to spread its forces across a much larger area while investigating potential threats.

And that's where the wolfpacks come in.

One wolfpack attacks a logistics group. Another hits a convoy. Another destroys a repair facility. Another attacks an isolated group of warships. Then they all disappear before the Covenant can respond.

This is where the WWII wolfpack comparison comes in. The objective isn't necessarily to destroy the enemy's entire navy. It's to destroy its logistics.

If you continuously attack supply lines, repair facilities, transports, communications, and isolated ships, you make maintaining the war increasingly expensive and difficult.

The UNSC doesn't need to win every engagement. It needs to make the Covenant fight a war where every convoy could be attacked, every sensor contact could be fake, and every logistical route could potentially be a kill zone.

Combine the Cole Protocol, massive numbers of deceptive probes and ship signatures, and heavily armed stealth wolfpacks operating deep behind the front lines, and you could turn Covenant-controlled territory into an interstellar jungle.

Discussion Am I imagining this Halo CE timeline article?

Upvotes

I swear I read an official article VERY recently, on Waypoint, that covered the timeline of events on the first Halo ring. This included each event of the game, The Flood, Fireteam Raven, etc all in order and with dates.

I cannot find this article now - am I just bad at finding it or genuinely crazy?

Discussion Halo MCC or Xbox 360 for Halo 3 ODST and Reach?

Upvotes

I've been debating if I should play these two games on the original hardware or Halo MCC. Halo MCC can run at 4k60 or higher whereas the 360 runs them at 720p30. However there are small graphical bugs in MCC. Also the game was originally designed for the 360 so if I played on that I'd be playing the game how it was original intended to be played. What do you guys think?
