Hope it stays 12gb. 12gb is fine according to this sub 🤣

u/Claptown420 6h ago

Runs everything I need at 1440p.

If you develop a game that requires more than 12gb of vram then you're missing out on 98% of the market. It also won't run on consoles if that's the case.

Most people are at a 3060 level graphics card.

I can't think of a single game that won't run on a 5070. It'll still be relevant for at least 5 years.

u/martyn__ 6h ago

U know, according to reddit, if a midrange GPU cant run a game at maximum settings with path tracing and DLAA at 60+fps then its not enough and garbage

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

No1 ever said that omg 🤣 5070ti is an absolute beast it runs perfect with dlss and 4k and pt its the vram getting to 15.5gb on a few games. Its only been released over a yr. Its not enough but it Will obviously increase in price. £900 is already astronomical for a gpu

u/AloneUA 6h ago

Yeah. 8Gb is really not enough today, though. I got a 5060 laptop with 2k screen and it's not every game that I can run. Doom is almost unplayable, for example.

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

8gb is enough with 1080p according to this sub 🤣

u/AloneUA 6h ago

Kinda is, I've ascended too high to lower my resolution now, though. 2K or bust.

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

Yes on Low settings i presume and no rt.

5060 has dlss too and could run alot of games at 1440p quite ezily on high settings with dlss if it had 16gb ram. But 8gb is enough apparently according to this sub 🤣

u/uzldropped 2h ago

8gb is usually enough for 1080p on the 5060’s/5060ti’s. Ofc not always, but everyone knows that. Not sure what your point is…

u/SauronOfRings 6h ago

There’s a nuance there, 8GB is enough for entry level 1080p GPU like 4050 or 5050. 8GB shouldn’t be an option for 9060XT and 5060 Ti or even 5060. Texture resolutions are much better managed these days, but even then 12GB is ideal.

u/Claptown420 6h ago

8 is not, 12 is
That's a 50% different, pretty significant upgrade.

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

Yes 1080p gaming

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

Its not an upgrade if u cant use the basic features of dlss and fg without worrying bout vram Well it is

u/iMaexx_Backup 6h ago edited 6h ago

The point is not that your GPU won’t be able to play new games anymore. The point is that you’ll have to turn down your graphics settings much earlier than 16GB cards with the same performance have to.

If you’re buying a new GPU every gen, then this planned obsolescence doesn’t affect you. But if you’re planning on keeping it for a while and you have some standards and want to keep the settings as high as possible - then a 12GB card is just not a smart decision.

Just look how 8GB GPUs are getting crippled on some new games, while GPUs with 12 GB and the same or less performance get much better results. The same is going happen with 12GB -> 16GB.

Back then my friend bought a 3070ti 8GB and I bought a 6700XT 12GB. My friend had to upgrade much earlier, even though the 3070ti is quiet more powerful and was much more expensive.

And I’d argue you should expect more from a premium product with a premium price, so it’s valid to complain about it.

Try to run marvel spider man 2 ultra @1440p or Forza Horizon 6 ultra@ 1440p and say that again.

I had this card. It doesn’t not run everything

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

U could with dlss but probably go over the vram 🤣

u/2hurd 6h ago

And with that logic, just run the game 480p, upscale it to 1440p with 4x FG and claim 6GB is enough.

u/Big-Roll7094 6h ago

Y ultra?

u/Claptown420 6h ago

FH6 ran fine for me 1440p ultra no RT DLAA.
Maybe you got a cpu bottleneck.

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

Why not rt? Omg my 5070ti runs 200 FPS with no rt at 4k

u/Claptown420 6h ago

Because I toggled it on and off again.
Didn't see that much of a difference, preferred the performance gain.

I also played from the cockpit cam since I'm in a wheel

u/TrinityYGO 5h ago

No, it’s just that I used RT.

If you turn down settings, ofc it will run fine

u/Claptown420 5h ago

So turn it off? Barely makes a difference in this game imo.

Use eyes and brain, don't let fomo ruin things

u/TrinityYGO 5h ago

It’s not about fomo. And it does make a difference, even tho it’s minimal. In spider man 2 the difference is MASSIVE.

But It’s the fact that the card CANT run those settings because of 12GB vram.

Even if you wanted to, you can’t

u/VariousWar2922 1h ago

Mine runs forza 1440p ultra rt no problem. Its tight with the vram but it runs and looks great

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

Do u use dlss or rt?

u/Claptown420 6h ago

DLSS quality and maxed out ray tracing in AC black flag gets me above 70 which is perfectly fine for that kind of game.

In LMU I'm getting 200fps.

For 500€ (minus €80 for selling the 1070)
it's good value

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

What ram is that using? Vram

u/Akiraooo 5h ago

Indiana Jones won't run on a 5070.

u/Claptown420 5h ago

Yes it does, just not maxed out.
Not interested in that game anyway.

u/NotaVortex 1h ago

Bruh that game runs at 95 fps without path tracing on a 5070 or 60 fps at dlss quality with path tracing medium and the only setting turned down being texture quality to high. Its perfectly fine.

u/Hydric_acid_yummy 4h ago

Death stranding 2 maxed out at 1440p was using 15GB of vram for me

u/Claptown420 4h ago

Thankfully I was satisfied with the way it looked on base ps5 performance mode šŸ‘

u/Hydric_acid_yummy 3h ago edited 3h ago

Why not play on a ps5 then?, also I'm fairly certain you can still get higher than ps5 settlings on a 5070 without going over it's vram buffer

u/Claptown420 3h ago

I borrowed the ps5 from my brother in law to play it on release.
So I did play it on ps5, but I'm not gonna play it again anytime soon.

Not inclined to pay another 80 bucks for a marginally better experience.

I got my own ps5 for gta6 now, but it's just collecting dust until november 19th

u/International_Tax642 6h ago

U can't compare console graphics to pc wtf 🤣

u/Big-Roll7094 6h ago

Yes because 5070 has 3x the power of any console

u/Claptown420 6h ago

You still have to develop with consoles in mind if you want good sales.

u/rabouilethefirst 5h ago

Cope harder. As soon as next gen consoles drop, your card will not even run on low settings 1080p. Consoles move the market and 12GB is the min for the current gen, which is on its way out

u/Claptown420 4h ago

Cope with what? I got a gpu that runs everything I need. If there comes a time where I can't run something I want, I'll sell it and upgrade.

I got it for €500
Specifically upgraded from a 1070 8gb to run modern titles.

With the way the current hardware market is, there is a lot of uncertainty on how the next-gen will be look like.

If the ps5 can run gta6 then I'm sure the 5070 will be fine.

u/NotaVortex 1h ago

Yeah these people don't realize that the best way to do things is upgrade to the cheapest card you can get that runs what you want. Getting a xx90 for $1500 at msrp is crazy, especially when you cant even normally buy it at msrp.

I got my entire system for that price with a rtx 5070 and the difference is that i have access to the newest features wheras those who get a card for it to last 10 years will be locked out pretty quickly and i will be able to upgrade without remorse because i didn't buy my graphics card for $2000

u/NKP1001 2h ago

If 12gb for 1440p is outdated, then 16gb for 4k will be outdated first. Guess rtx 5080 will become 1440p only

u/il0vebajablast 5m ago

Haha just like how consoles were supposed to make 8 core CPUs the minimum?

u/2hurd 6h ago

That's absolute bullshit given that the most common VRAM option according to Steam Survey is 16GB. So no, you're not missing out on 98% of the market.

u/Claptown420 6h ago

Where did you get that info?
https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

Definitely doesn't look like the majority has a 16gb gpu. Looks closer to 8-10%

u/2hurd 6h ago

https://www.igorslab.de/en/16-gb-vram-overtakes-8-gb-steam-survey-gaming-pcs/

You can also find it in your own Steam survey if you click enough.

u/Mizurazu 5h ago

This doesn't prove your already disproven point. This article is just saying how it's becoming more common than 8gb but it's not the most popular on steam yet.

u/2hurd 4h ago

FFS you people are dense:

https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam

Here is a link where it clearly states that the most popular VRAM amount is 16GB. It can't get any clearer than that.

u/Mizurazu 3h ago edited 3h ago

God you're stupid. It's because it shows all operating systems, unified memory and different OS. If you select between the different OS you can see how the numbers get compiled. Linux shows most popular VRAM config is 1GB(lots of mini PCs) where on Windows it's 8gb. Then there's Mac which virtually nobody games on over 50% use 16GB. Which massively affects the total.

If you look at the most popular OS, 90% is some version of Windows and for Windows the most popular VRAM config is 8gb.

To summarize. 90% of people using steam use some version of Windows. For Windows the most used VRAM config is 8GB. Does this make sense to you?

That this isn't arcuarte should have been obvious by the fact that the most popular GPU is the RTX 3060. So you're right it can't get any clearer than that.

Next time actually look closer before you embarrass yourself again

u/Claptown420 3h ago

Bro thinks majority of the world is rocking high end gpus 😁

u/ParticularAvocado612 26m ago

check the number for windows. 8gb is the top

u/limonchan 3h ago edited 3h ago

Most common doesn't mean majority. it was like what, around 75% people have less than 16gb of Vram. Correct me if my figures are wrong.

Edit: Around 62% of Pc's has 12gb or lower vram

u/Odd-Student636 2h ago

8GB is the most common VRAM in Steam survey

u/Shoddy_Meaning_7654 4h ago

They're kind of screwed right now because unless they want to pay triple the price for 3gb chips, they'll either have to stay on 12gb on a 192bit bus or they'll have to clamshell it for a super version for 24gb

u/il0vebajablast 5m ago

12gb is fine dumbass
