Was your account suspended, deleted or shadowbanned for no reason? Read this.

Upvotes

We're getting a lot of posts from people saying that their accounts have been suspended, deleted or shadowbanned. We're sorry that happened to you, but the only thing you can do is to contact GitHub support and wait for them to reply. It seems those waits can be long - like weeks.

While you're waiting, feel free to add the details of your case in a comment on this post. Will it help? No. But some people feel better if they've shared their problems with a group of strangers and having the pointless details all gathered together in this thread will be better than dealing with a dozen new posts every couple of days.

Any other posts on this topic will be deleted. If you see one that the moderators haven't deleted, please let us know.

Question GitHub Student Developer Pack Already Claimed on My Old Account (Not Accessible)!

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with the GitHub Student Developer Pack and would appreciate some advice.

I previously had a GitHub account that was approved for the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Unfortunately, I lost access to that account and created a new account.

I removed my personal and student emails from the old account and linked them to my new account.

However, when I try to apply for the Student Developer Pack on my new account, GitHub says that the Student Developer Pack has already been claimed by another account. I am still a currently enrolled student and eligible for the Pack.

I contacted GitHub Support about this, but their response wasn't helpful and didn't address my actual issue. My problem is that the Student Developer Pack is still associated with my old GitHub account.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there any way to transfer the Student Developer Pack to my new account or get GitHub to release the previous claim?

Thanks!

Discussion actions cron not triggering at all

Upvotes

Hello, I’m having an issue with GitHub Actions in one of my private repositories. I have a workflow configured to run daily, but it is not being triggered.

I tested the same thing in another repository by configuring a workflow to run every 5 minutes, but same thing happens there as well.

has anyone experienced this recently? Could this be an issue on GitHub’s side?

Showcase Has anyone else had issues with GitHub device authorization codes not appearing for CLI / MCP connections?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here may have come across this before.

I’m trying to connect my GitHub account to AI tools such as Claude CLI and Antigravity CLI through the GitHub MCP. I’m already logged into GitHub, including in the mobile app, and the authentication flow opens the GitHub “Authorize your device” page correctly.

I'm then redirected:

  1. https://github.com/login/device where I select my account
  2. https://github.com/login/device?skip_account_picker=true a code 6-digits code requested displays from GH with a supposed code opening in the app, but the code never appears even though I'm logged in with the same account in my mobile app.

The issue is that GitHub asks me to enter a device code that should apparently be displayed in the application or device I’m trying to connect, but I never actually receive or see that code anywhere.

I’ve tried restarting the GitHub app, reopening the authentication flow, and starting the connection again several times, but the code still doesn’t appear.

If I continue through the flow another way, I eventually get this message:

At the moment this is preventing me from connecting my AI agents to my GitHub account, so I’d really appreciate any advice.

Has anyone experienced the same issue, or knows if there is a GitHub setting, authorization step, or alternative login method I might be missing?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

Discussion Passed the GitHub Foundations (GH-900) exam, topic areas that showed up a lot + study resources

Upvotes

Just finished the GitHub Foundations Certification (GH-900) and wanted to share what I used to prep, plus the general topic areas that were heavily emphasized on the exam.

I got the free voucher from the GitHub Student Developer Pack, and I already had a background working with Git/GitHub. I'd say the exam is easy, but if you have the free voucher, it's worth taking, you'll end up learning a bit more about GitHub's features along the way.

Resources I used:

Topic areas to focus on (based on my prep, not literal exam content):

  • Organization/repo roles and permissions (owner, admin, maintain, write, triage, read) - know the differences well.
  • Projects (the Kanban-style board) - what it's for and how it's used for tracking work.
  • GitHub plan tiers - differences between Free, Pro, Team, and Enterprise (features like private repo collaborators, advanced tools, SSO, etc.).
  • Where security alerts show up (Security tab on a repo) and the different alert types.
  • GitHub Marketplace - what it offers (Actions, apps).
  • GitHub Copilot - what it is at a high level (AI pair programmer, not just autocomplete).
  • Branching and pull requests - when to branch vs. when to open a PR, basic Git flow concepts.
  • Issues - how they're used for tracking bugs/tasks, labels, linking to PRs.
  • Discussions - when to use, the difference against issues, the types of discussions.
  • GitHub Desktop - what tasks it supports (clone, commit, push/pull, branch management) vs. what it doesn't.
  • GitHub Mobile - what you can realistically do from the app (review/manage issues & PRs, notifications) vs. desktop-only tasks.
  • Security features: Dependabot (dependency alerts/updates), secret scanning, and CodeQL (code scanning for vulnerabilities) - know what each one actually does and how they differ.

Overall the exam leans more conceptual/definitional than hands-on, so understanding what each feature is for mattered more than knowing exact UI clicks.

Question Can you connect Claude / Claude Code / Claude Cowork to be your GitHub Project manager?

Upvotes

I'm looking to see if this is possible...

I have a GitHub repository setup in which I have already added to a Claude Project. Within that GitHub repository I have a GitHub Project with issues and such organized in a specific way. What I am looking to do is find a method for Claude to have real-time access to the Issues, and the Project, and allow it act as the project manager organizing the issues as we work through code and have discussions.

Is this a thing? Is it possible? When I attempt, it doesn't seem to be possible but I'm likely doing something wrong.

Question How do I contact support when I cannot even sign in to begin the ticket process?

Upvotes

I want to delete my old account so I can reuse the username on my new account, but I can't sign in because it requires 2FA from a school district email that does not exist anymore. I can't begin the support ticket process because that requires me to sign in first, and I literally cannot. What can I do from here?

Discussion GitHub Student Pack Verification Fix

Upvotes

I tried to submit my documents for the student pack twice, but each time my submission was rejected.

If you're encountering this issue, submit your screenshots through a support ticket and follow the recommended steps provided in the email. This includes enabling two-factor authentication, adding your name to your payment information and profile (you don't need to include a payment method).

After completing these steps, email them again to inform them that you've followed their instructions and are still facing issues. They should be able to approve from there.

I believe there is an issue with their website's processing. Despite using my iPad, laptop, and iPhone, each photo I took turned out blurry.

Question Free hosting for small dynamic website compatible with github

Upvotes

Hey! I am recently getting into web development and I am wanting to start a blog that I own and can fully customize and build from the ground up. I first was using GitHub because I have some experience using it with other projects and it has pages which is free and built right into the platform. However I have realized that a static website may not have the capabilities that I am wanting.

I am wondering what options are there for hosting. I don't need anything crazy I doubt I will really get any traffic but I want it to be able to be up so I can view whenever and show it to people. And I will be doing all development in GitHub so I don't need really any features besides the bare minimum.

I would prefer something that has the ethical values of open source, transparency, and caution with ai, but beggars can't be choosers.

(Capabilities wanted: conversion of plain text database [containing title body images tags] to blog posts either using prebuilt general formatting or custom formatting for specific post. Search function. As far as I know these capabilities are not available in a static page.)

I assume I got plenty of things wrong in this post, as again, I am new to web development so please educate me in the comments!

Edit 2: And Yahoo, too.

Edit 3: It seems like the website has been taken down, not long ago.

Question Blacksmith.sh GitHub runners

Upvotes

I signed up for blacksmith about a week in I’ve got a $7 bill already. I’m also getting you’ve hit 80% of your free mins and you should add a payment method.

I’m seriously confused after being extremely impressed by how fast their runners are. Now I’m wondering what the heck is going on.

I tried to reach out to them but need a payment method to contact billing and no reply on the support@ email.

I’m happy to pay as the service is good but really surprised how they work/do business. I feel I could easily be in for future bull shocks.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Looks like I’m not the only one hit by this - https://forestwalk.ai/blog/surprise-blacksmith-costs/

Discussion When did GitHub stars become the KYC check for OSS credits and cloud catalogs?

Upvotes

I'm the maintainer of LibreDB Studio (MIT, self-hosted web DB GUI). This is not a launch post. I am stuck on a metric I cannot honestly farm.

The project is ten months old. Postgres.org lists it as a client; Redis, ClickHouse and Druid docs mention it. We keep a public distribution inventory (`distribution/channels.yaml`) because I treat “can you actually install this” as part of the product.

That file currently says : 26 live channels.** Live examples, not a tour: GHCR (canonical image) and Docker Hub (discoverability mirror), Helm and Rancher Partner Charts, OpenShift opereator, npm / Homebrew / Snap / winget / Chocolatey, DigitalOcean Marketplace, Railway, Dokploy, CapRover, TrueNAS, Unraid, plus a desktop AppImage. CasaOS, Umbrel and Portainer PRs are still open. Deprecated on purpose: Flathub declined the app under their generative-AI policy; we closed the PR rather than argue. Linux Flatpak users go through FlatPark instead.

On the credit / catalog side I have been accepted in places that reviewed the repo, the license, and the image. GCP is one of them (not in that live matrix yet). Smaller catalogs and some OSS support programs still bounce the same application with one number: **you need 10k GitHub stars.**

Numbers I can defend today (2026-09-02):

- GitHub stars: **395**

- GHCR `ghcr.io/libredb/libredb-studio` (canonical): **26.8k**

- Docker Hub `libredb/libredb-studio` (mirror): **76,741**

- Together that is **100k pulls of the same image across two registries**. I am not calling that 100k unique humans. CI, Kubernetes, and `latest` retags all count. I am also not stuffing npm into this total, `@libredb/studio` is a launcher, a few thousand downloads / 30 days.

People who pull from GHCR or Hub almost never open the GitHub repo, so they never star. A 10k-star gate is still 25× the badge. For a tool that is supposed to live next to a database, I do not know a clean way to close that gap that is not “go viral” or “put a star modal in the GUI.” I will not do the second one.

I know why the 10k checkbox exists. Coding-agent PRs are a flood. Reviewing them is unpaid hours. I get those PRs too, drive-by diffs that look finished and are not, “fixes” that do not compile, issues that are a paste from a chat. I close a lot of them. I am not asking anyone to lower their bar for slop.

What I am stuck on is that **stars do not measure that work.** A catalog cannot see that I rejected the junk and still shipped Helm, an operator bundle, and an image people actually pull. The gate I hit is a popularity badge, not a review-load badge.

If you have walked this:

  1. Did any program accept registry pulls, a distro listing, or Helm instead of stars, or is 10k always a hard floor?
  2. If you later crossed 10k, was it one front-page hit or years of boring use?
  3. Is asking Docker users to star even legitimate?
  4. If you maintain something and you found a program that scored review signal, tests, or distro listings instead of the star count, what did they actually ask for?

Inventory: https://github.com/libredb/libredb-studio/blob/main/distribution/channels.yaml

note: when we discussed this in another subreddit, the general recommendation was to redirect Docker pulls to ghcr.io.

Discussion Github Repo health Checks

Upvotes

Good evening, Im working on a process where I want to check the health of repositories. We have about 30 repo's and so far I have created a GitApp to go through and check for things like when the last pr was done, how old are branches, last commit, how many branches etc.. Based on our rules it will show all this information and output if its in good health or needs attention .

I now want to take take that information and generate a health report using co pilot and send the health report to the team leads every 2 weeks so they can address any issues or things that need attention. So the team leads will get a health report for the repos associated with that team. At the end of the month we get have a meeting and go over our repo health. For the automated emailing of the health reports Im going to use a git actions. I'm using git actions to run with my health monitoring code. For code reviews we set it up in github to assign code reviews randomly when a code review is requested hoping this will make people review code.

Some questions I have for fellow repo managers see below.

What are some good things to add for rules to consider healthy?
What are some rules to consider for for repos that need attention?
Is this a good process and has anybody done this process or have a different route?
Does Wiz Scan work well and how does it work?
Anybody else have thought, ideas on this topic?

Any help, ideas, suggestion would be great. I was tasked with this from my boss and I'm new to this so keep that in mind. lol
