Something about these former ferals is so special. I love him so much I could cry.

Post image

He is so special to me. He still won’t come out of his safe room more than a few feet so we spend lots of time in with him (not as much as I’d like but a solid few hours a day spread out) and I just love him so much. He’s got little scars all over him and little chunks missing from his non clipped ear, has a funny stance when he sits from what we assume was an old injury but the vet wasn’t concerned. I know nothing about his history other than he started coming around my office last October and the first time I saw him he was eating chicken bones under the dumpster with his sister.

I miss his sister desperately and wish I had her here too (I was very much bonded with her) but coyotes 😔
I’m so happy we have him though. I hope one day he and our dog can get along.

What is is about these former ferals that is just so damn special?! He’s perfect to me in every way!

Aweeee I feel this so hard (and he looks a lot like my formerly feral mama)! We haven’t broached getting her out of her safe room yet but are hoping to over the next few weeks as we start introducing her to our resident cats (and back to her kittens that we still have). There’s just something so rewarding about knowing where they’re been and how far they’ve come. He’s so lucky to have you. What’s his name?

Aww look at her little nose! His name is Tonka Bean!

What’s her name!?

Love it! This is Elvira. She’s still just a kitten herself, too. :)

She is so adorable!!

Thank you for your kind heart. Looks like my former feral. Ours is deaf. 🤗🤗🤗

I got my ferals (five of them) as kittens. They were old enough to have learned to fear humans though, they’re all still very shy.

You took in an adult! And look at the great progress you’ve made. He’ll be in your lap before you know it.

I’m so happy for both of you! It’s such an honor to win a fearful kitty’s trust.

I meant to mention the Cat Dancer toy to draw him out with play. Petco and Amazon carry them. My kids can’t resist them!

I’m ready for lap time! Still no lap or pick up yet, but he loves his pets and lays at my feet when I’m in the room with him. He was really scared of my husband but we had our first breakthrough where he ate in front of him last week, and he went to him for scratches!

Former Feral Fred!

u/barefootwasp 3d ago

Look at that little toasted baby! We had a Siamese growing up who came to us as a stray and she was hands down the best cat who ever lived!

u/BoringAge5962 2d ago

Freddy was a mess when he showed up. He was beat up and had open wounds. His fur has toasted so much now that he is inside, he is a total ham. He loves people, my other cats and is very needy. He just loves to be by people and follows me everywhere.

I love that so much. He’s beautiful. I’ve always wanted another Siamese cat but with our dog, we never thought we’d be cat people. Tonka Bean came to us via CDS. After his two siblings were killed by coyotes, we knew we couldn’t leave him and while he was still pretty skittish, we thought him friendly enough to bring indoors so we did. He’s perfectly behaved so that’s the best part!

Thank you for your kind heart ❤️

Hi Fred! So handsome 💐💐💐

u/Philodendron69 3d ago

Awww he is a handsome boy, I’m glad he found someone who will be patient with him. I’m sorry about his sister 💗

This is my former “feral” Violet - I also love her so much I want to cry. I couldn’t take her daughter in and I miss her a lot too 💗

This was his sister, Zinnia Honeybell. We had a very strong bond. We were prepping to bring her home first, and four days before the weekend we were to bring her home, she disappeared. I saw coyotes on the cameras around that time 😔

u/Anikofein 2d ago

Deeply sorry. Thank you fir your kind heart

u/barefootwasp 3d ago

Look at that fluffy sweetie!

Yes, there’s definitely something special about these former ferals! Amazing that with time, space, patience and love they can transform into happy house cats, although not always a lap cat! Pic of my Eddie a week after rescued and a year later, physically transformed and socially accepting his indoor life!

This is right before we brought Tonka Bean home. He was skinny and raggedy and covered in cuts

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

Now he’s chubby and happy and spoiled rotten!

As he should be: love Tuxedos - I got my 11 year old when someone found him as a stray at 1 year old. It’s been 10 years and I love him.

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

We’re not sure exactly how old this boy is but the vet thought about a year. They think he was a result of last years kitten season. He is timid and reserved but extremely sweet and very quirky. We adore him so much. He’s a great cat.

He sounds like my Mr Whiskers ❤️
Same ages on adoption 😻

Looks like my deaf cat we just brought inside. 💐💐🤗🤗

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

We have a deaf very feral black kitty that comes to our house too! Our whole neighborhood feeds her. She’s old and deaf and we want to take her in so badly but she is extremely feral. Like, no getting within 6 feet of her and I’ve been feeding her for YEARS trying to get closer

u/Anikofein 1d ago

You are so kind. Thank you for everything that you do in addition. Thank you for taking the time to reply.💐💐🤗🤗

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

What a majestic boy!!!

u/barefootwondergirl 2d ago

He's so handsome! He looks like a very sweet boy.

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

Thank you! He’s very sweet. We’re slowly working on becoming a lap cat, and he may never be, but that’s ok. He loves scratches and pets and will headbutt you when he wants them. We try and do everything on his terms. He is perfectly behaved though!

u/Ok_Aardvark6820 2d ago

I completely understand! Mine still won't come out from under the bed while I'm around, but I still feel such affection toward her. Knowing that she can sleep soundly in her safe space fills me with joy :) progress comes one day at a time!

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

Aww. She’ll come around! Thankfully he loves attention when we’re in there with him but he just will not come out more than a few feet. I love that he’s comfortable in here though. This is from this afternoon. I woke him up from his nap apparently 😂

u/Difficult_Bother6539 2d ago

I am so glad you have him. He is a handsome boy. He will be living his best life now.

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

We’re so glad to have him too. He’s a little joy.

u/Anikofein 2d ago

Thank you for your kind heart. We are keeping the deaf cat inside. She had an eye infection. My resident cats are keeping their distance but not hissing anymore. She is very chill and sweet.

This is Cica. It means kitty in Hungarian 💐🤗

u/barefootwasp 2d ago

Oh how precious! We have a feral black kitty I call Spooky who is deaf. She is very feral and will not allow contact at all. I’ve tried for years because I want her off the street. All of the neighbors on our street leave food out for her

u/Anikofein 1d ago

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. So many wonderful people here. Thank you for your kindness. Have a blessed Sunday.💐💐🤗🤗

u/barefootwasp 1d ago

They’re so special ❤️

u/IAmHerdingCatz 1d ago

Agree!

u/barefootwasp 1d ago

Sweet little baby ❤️

u/IAmHerdingCatz 1d ago

I took in his unclecousinbrother over the weekend. He will go to the shelter for adoption, but check out this family resemblance!

u/barefootwasp 1d ago

Thank you for rescuing them!!! What a cutie!!

u/IAmHerdingCatz 1d ago

I will boast that when I took over the colony 3 years ago, there were about 40 cats. It's down to about 7 now. I've been aggressively TNRing and have a standing agreement with the local shelter that if I can pick up a cat with my bare hands and get it into a carrier, they will accept it and place for adoption. I'm down to 3 adults still needing their surgery.

u/barefootwasp 1d ago

Oh I love that. Bless you for doing it. This little guy came from a group of 3. A brother and sister. His sister I had a deep bond with and we were planning to bring her home and fix and adopt the other two out. Well, a few days before the weekend we were to bring her home, she disappeared. His brother disappeared about a month prior. I realized when I checked the cameras at my office that it was coyotes so we acted quickly to get this guy fixed and some medical care and home. He’s been a perfect guy

u/Unhappy_Place5383 1d ago

Because when they understand the love, the give it back so much. My little guy doesn’t hardly leave my side now. He sleeps either at my feet or up by my head each night. He wakes me up with kisses and trying to clean my hair every morning. It’s just a different kind of love.
