Red Carpet Massacre fan
I’ve always been a fan of RCM, and I think it’s a better album than many people remember.

I was really young when I saw Duran Duran the first time, and then, as they say, the rest is history.

It begins with the obvious: Duran Duran. The same name twice.
Then you have, of course, the three Taylors: John, Roger and Andy.
Nothing new there I know.
But start looking at their full names:
Simon John Charles Le Bon
Nigel John Taylor
Nicholas James Bates
Andrew James Taylor
Roger Andrew Taylor
Andrew James Taylor
So Simon and John share John. Roger and Andy share Andrew. Nick and Andy share James.
Then you go outside the five:
Before Simon Le Bon, Duran Duran had an early member named Simon Colley.
Earlier in the band’s history, they had Andy Wickett.
Andy Hamilton played sax with them.
And then even their families start joining in. Simon’s father was John. Nick’s father was Roger. John Taylor’s mother was Jean, and Roger Taylor’s mother was also Jean.
I’m sure there are more.
Anyone know another good one?

A few pages from the May 1985 issue of Japan's Music Life magazine (with Power Station on the cover)...forgive imperfections as I used my phone in the absence of having a proper scanner. There is a full interview with John and Robert but I will need to work on that for a separate post...the magazine is thick and the piece falls right in the middle, which makes getting clean photos a challenge... 😬

Hi! I've recently started listening to some Duran Duran, and I've found that while I adore some of their songs, I'm not a big fan of their others.
My favorites so far are Before the Rain, Chauffeur, The Man Who Stole a Leopard, and Sin of the City. Based on those, do any of y'all have any recommendations for me?

Hello everyone. So, I was with my friend, talking about certain verses on Duran Duran songs that could work amazingly for edits, and eventually we got to Pop Trash. And, since it's a thing we do for a time now, we often imagine this part of Pop Trash Movie as the beginning of one.
"Watching slow mo going frame by frame
Might have blurred my vision
Your life went flashing by
When did it all go wrong?"
We were sharing the screenshots and, just for fun, I put this part on Google lens to see if it recognizes the song since the pop trash era is not really remembered. Although it recognized, it...generated a whole other lyrics to it.
What's most bizarre is that, when I put the screenshot with these strange lyrics on Lens (the second image on this post, because it doesn't have any part of the original song), it returns to the correct lyrics of Pop Trash Movie?!? If I try to search any part of it on the regular Google, it doesn't pop anything other than the Duran Duran song. How?!? Is this a song I don't know of?

You listen to a song like Ordinary World, and then one like Big Bang Generation. Obviously both extraordinary songs, and both produced in home studios, but Ordinary World sounds so clean and lush and sharp and deep, while Big Bang Generation sounds kind of muddy as the only way I can describe it. Damn I wish they would remaster Medazzaland.

Hi all,
I wanted to share a piece of music preservation with the group. I recently went through my old physical archives and found some UK television broadcasts of the band that aren't currently available online (well I couldn't find them!). I live in the Midlands so I have stuff off local TV i.e. Birmingham too.
I've just digitised the tapes and am uploading them all to YouTube to ensure they're safely preserved. I'll be releasing more from my archive over the coming weeks, but here is the first drop.
It’s been a labour of love and I have no intention of monetising this. I just thought I would share what I have.
P.S. I have a whole backlog of recordings scheduled to drop every week from now until mid-January. I'm uploading the rare ones first. If you want to catch the rest, you can subscribe to the channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@Carolines80sDuranDuranArchive

Have you ever been curious about who the underwater model in the water tank from Duran Duran's "Come Undone" music video is?
I always wanted to know who she was because I always found her very beautiful, but I could never find any clues. However, I recently did some digging and discovered that the model's name is Lauren Heston. She was an underwater model in the 90s, and today she is the founder of one of the most well-known and respected baby swimming schools in the UK, called "Little Dippers." She also released a book called "Water Baby."
Here are the links from my research that led to this conclusion:

2-https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/news/brightons-little-dippers-celebrates-30-years-of-teaching-babies-how-to-love-the-water-4152242
3-https://littledippers.co.uk/lauren
There is also another video of her on the internet called "British Gas Water Babies," where she swims with a baby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVG6-DCFyn0
I felt this discovery should be shared on the internet to finally give her proper credit for her performance in the music video. Hope you guys find this interesting!

Born in 1986. Dad was a fan and passed on his love for Duran Duran to me at a young age. I remember seeing the guys in 1997 on the Medazzaland tour at Verizon Wireless Theatre in Houston. What an amazing show! They opened with "Medazzaland" playing behind a giant cloth cover that draped the stage. It had holes cut into it and a strobe light blasted out from behind it. When "Medazzaland" finished, the curtain was dropped, and there was the band in all their glory. I think they went straight into Big Bang Generation.

I am sure this has been done before, but what are your top 5 Duran Duran albums? I’m going to include Arcadia because to me it’s pretty much a Duran Duran album, but some may disagree.
1a. Rio
1b. Duran Duran
3. So Red the Rose
4. Seven and the Ragged Tiger
5. All You Need is Now
