question for drivers
i work overnight in a large building and sometimes i order food. for context i am a female, alone, and there’s no other people around the area so basically if something were to happen I’d really be shit out of luck LOL. so whenever i order, i always note what the door looks like and make sure it is a contactless delivery. sometimes i often get up and go to the back when they’re arriving so im not in view but for some reason the drivers will literally stand at the door until i come to grab it??? this guy recently just sat there and knocked for like 7 minutes so I sent a text saying “no one can grab the order currently, please just leave it at the door!” and from the cameras he just stared at the text 😭. i know it’s weird but i just don’t want to open the door LOL. do you guys see the delivery notes when you accept the order?? are they just making sure someone physically grabs it in case i report not getting it? i don’t understand why it’s such a reoccurring issue LOL.

Weirdo driver. I prefer to leave it at the door, take my pic and get out of there without seeing customer as well. - especially after dark

Maybe a message that I'm on the way, maybe I get a 👍, drop it off, and then definitely immediately go a couple of blocks away before pushing more buttons! If they happen to come out before I leave, a simple wave and good night! is all which is needed.

The app notifies them of all that info if they are interested in it. I never message customers as I prefer my drivers not message me info I can see in the app when I order.

Choose the "leave at door" delivery option, and include the most basic institutions you can. "Leave order at x door"
You can also message the dasher once one is assigned. Helpful to leave a picture of the door you want it left at, and to confirm it's to be left outside.
Other than that, you can't fix stupid.
When i worked in a warehouse before this is had to deal with some of the most moronic dashers who couldn't follow instructions. I reported them every time if they couldn't leave the food outside. Most would come inside what was clearly not a building open to the public and look for me. Some even brought kids inside. Despite instructions saying not to and signs warning of trespassing. Same for lurkers. Theres no reason to wait after the dropoff photo.

As a driver, I can tell you that if they ignore your instructions and refuse to leave it at the door, they are not a very good driver.
For your safety, you could try changing the name on your account to something like Iphone or Vincent Rex.
We get odd names all the time and no one blinks. Just change the account to male and you'll avoid the creepers. And for your safety, just wait for the driver to leave. Not worth the risk.

Obv never meet someone when you aren't comfortable. From a driver perspective, sometimes the app says "hand to customer" even if they chose drop off. Some drivers (esp new ones) don't know how to get around it and think they have to follow what the app says or get penalized
On any hand to customer, I go through the help > can't contact customer when I pull up which starts a 2 minute timer so we can call/text and treat it like a drop if you don't answer or ask us to leave it. We just want to move on, you just want your food, but there's no training for DD and they have everyone wasting their time

Do you have it set to Leave at Door? Because it’s strange that Dasher a would knock for a Leave at Door order. They should only knock for a Hand it to Customer order.
If you have it set to Hand it to Customer, it doesn’t matter if you have “contactless delivery” in your notes. The Dasher is still required to hand the order to the customer.
Please make sure you have it set to Leave at Door and you shouldn’t have issues.

Then it should be clear. I often get two conflicting messages. I just leave it at the door every time. It hardly matters & im off the hook if it says to leave at the door at least once

As a driver, I will say, sometimes I feel uncomfortable leaving out at the door of a work place or public building and will sometimes try to hand it off or ask at drop off. HOWEVER, if you communicate to me that you want it at the door (in delivery notes, messages, call, etc) I'm leaving it at the door no questions asked. Especially in the middle of the night 😅 I work third myself, I've seen everything. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

If you order directly through some merchants they'll override your delivery option with "Hand it to Me." Pizza Hut and Papa John's are particularly bad about this. If this happens again you can try asking your dasher to send you a screenshot of their delivery instructions just to see. This could be happening for any number of reasons but if it's THIS consistent that might be the issue?

Sometimes I feel weird leaving food at businesses doors, a few places I drop lunches at during nights will leave a table out for deliveries or I leave at lobby or with security.

Sometimes the app tells us to hand it to the customer, even without your knowledge for some reason? You don't /need/ to hand it to them though, especially if the customer can't be found. You still have an option to take a picture and leave. My bet is the dasher was either new or slow and didn't know. Weird dasher? Maybe.

I personally haven't encountered this situation yet. If I get a leave it at the door order to a clearly open building I just go in and leave it with the first person i see, that knows the name on the order. If the doors are locked, its dropped at the door and I'm out, not waisting my time.

To be honest, I rarely read the delivery notes until I get to my destination. Sometimes people put too much info on there and I can’t read it all while driving, so I wait until I’m parked

To answer your question, when we accept an order we know nothing more than the restaurant and a rough area of the drop off location, plus the dollar amount offered. We do see how many miles the route will take.
We do not see any customer name or address, nor any notes or drop off instructions. In fact, we don’t see that until we check in at the restaurant to pick up your order.
As for why someone would stand there? I can’t begin to guess. Most drivers I see drop the order and go as soon as possible.

Just be mindful that the order normally just displays the first name and lasts initial. If you’re making a statement with your name, say it all in the first name field.

You are not weird at all! They need to drop it & leave you alone!! Thats something id call dd about before even opening the door! Btw im a driver. Sticking around makes no sense unless you might have it checked on the app to meet at the door. Make sure that setting is off

I'm a driver, it does show "Leave at door" in the drop off instructions but it will be asking us to "hand it to customer" instead. At which point if they have a Camera I just flash the bag and send a message saying "it said to hand to you but I left it in X place. I'll handle the hand off issue with CS. Have a good night!" And I go into the help option and just mark it that the customer requested to change drop off location and the dash gets ended from there. Anyone waiting around that long or like that is just creepy...
I did wait once because the instructions said she was elderly and to leave it on the box by the door so she didn't risk falling but there wasn't a box or anything. She had a home nurse ordering her food but they didn't realize the box had blown away so they were both glad I didn't just leave it and call it good.

They are creeps who do this on purpose because they see a woman's name. The only thing that worked for me is sending a very stern message stating it's contact less and to leave it or I will remove the tip. They still didn't always listen so I just wait them out and ignore them and remove the tip anyway.
