Crazy how the most unassuming dark souls clips you see teach you a whole new mechanic probably no one knew.

u/Easy-Chair-542 27d ago

It's been known for quite a while now, little over two months but yeah

u/HoshinK 27d ago edited 27d ago

Seriously? I recorded this over six years ago. I wish I had posted it sooner.

u/Easy-Chair-542 27d ago

I meant widely known, during one of Doomwolfs bingo runs it happened and Gamersweekend covered it again

u/Desner_ 27d ago

Which mechanic?

u/Muted_Practice6350 27d ago

Silver knight backstabbing just like a player would.

u/Hexogen1c 27d ago

since the beginning of time they could do this . . . did people really not know?

u/MrStalfos 27d ago

I played multiple runs of DS1 and had absolutely no clue. I guess i just... never turned my back on them? I wonder if the DS3 variants can do the same. Pretty neat to still be learning new stuff about the game years later though.

u/False_Pear1860 27d ago

I 100%ed the game and had no clue. I feel like the circumstances needed to get backstabbed by a silver knight are not that common. I am usually facing them, and they don't try hard to get behind you.

u/Hexogen1c 26d ago

yeah, but its not a super rare thing. they initiate a running attack with your back turned to them, you get backstabbed. ive seen it happen to me, to youtubers, to friends

u/bstichaa 28d ago

They can backstab? Been playing this game since it came out and didn’t know that

u/DoesntMatterStan 27d ago

Their running attack where they stab transitions to a backstab if it lands in your back.

u/AdhesiveNo-420 27d ago

If it's a humanoid enemy with a weapon that isn't grossly larger than your character, it's just safe to assume they can back stab you

u/NoWater8595 27d ago

Ornstein tho.

u/TheMemeofGod 27d ago

Front and back

u/NoWater8595 27d ago

Oh yeah, giant Ornstein's impale and throw attack. Nice catch.

u/lobobobos 28d ago

Yep. Just like balder soldiers, panting Guadian's and thieves can too. But yeah enemies that can backstab you are uncommon.

u/DoesntMatterStan 27d ago

Nah silver knights dont backstab like the thieves or painted guardians, its just an attack that only backstabs when it hits your back

u/Many_Ad_955 27d ago

Balder soldiers are dirty AF.

u/GroupBusiness9298 27d ago

Had no idea knights could backstab. What have I been doing with my undead life? Love this sub.

u/Many_Ad_955 27d ago

You discover a new thing everyday. Most people would probably just ignore the mobs and go straight to the boss in NG+ anyways so they never found new things.

u/Daylight_The_Furry 27d ago

people do that?? But fighting things is the point???

u/GroupBusiness9298 27d ago

Admittedly, it's got to be pretty unusual to get backstabbed by mobs in most circumstances. Things missed in PVE...

u/Many_Ad_955 27d ago

The assassin near the Capra Demon arena kinda one-shotted me after I got parried.

u/GroupBusiness9298 27d ago

Yeah they've gotten me too, but still not a backstab despite their odd version of a riposte (jumping on shoulders and cutting throats)

Edit: unless you mean one of them parried while the other one backstabbed.

u/Many_Ad_955 26d ago

I think it was a parry. I rarely get backstabbed. When I do get backstabbed, it was at the Darkroot Forest.

u/Tharnax5468 27d ago

I recently discovered that the Hellkite Wyvern can glitch off the bridge and die. Nice boost to my new character.

Also that you can fail a boss fight successfully if your summon kills it after you die. You still get the souls and items, but you now have to collect all the souls plus the ones for killing the boss where you died.

u/Many_Ad_955 27d ago

You won't get the boss drop if you die.

u/Tharnax5468 27d ago

This is my clip. I confirmed the boss soul in my inventory and the soul count after recovering my souls. I got everything.

u/Many_Ad_955 27d ago

I guess I was stand-corrected. It just seems that this last breath exploit is just quite possible in Dark Souls. I just had a bad experience with my teammate Kill-Stealing my game.

u/Tharnax5468 27d ago

I found out about this a few days ago when it happened. I totally understand not knowing about it. It wasn't as surprising to me as HellKite Wyvern glitching through the bridge right after I shot its tail off, though.

u/Many_Ad_955 27d ago

Low chance of happening

u/GroupBusiness9298 27d ago

Your clip was the first time I've seen that happen (the Drake death glitch). Not sure how reproducible it is, but very cool find!

u/Tasin__ 27d ago

Not just that but baiting the backstab is one of the easiest ways to get past the archer silver knight on the rampart.

u/Xavier_ten_Hove 27d ago

Da heck indeed, I have been playing this game for over 10 years and I can't remember seeing it at all.

u/FloorFrog94 28d ago

Very rewarding watch

u/NukeHP 27d ago

Always nice to get the assist on a rare attack like that. It reminds me of a similar thing that happened when I was invading years ago.

u/HoshinK 27d ago

jolly cooperation )

u/paquitoelchiquito 27d ago

u/killerk14 27d ago

The fact that this isn’t gonna go to the top of r/all is a crime.

u/BueEyedDemon 27d ago

I remember my first time running up those stairs I learned never to run up stairs

No I didn’t

u/ADMIRAL_GEN 27d ago

Crazy aura then you walked into the pillar

u/Training-Equal-7647 27d ago

"Sun bro backing off"

The sneaky and opportunistic silver knight.

u/No-Run-6137 27d ago

Diavolo vs Polnareff

u/VF43NYC 27d ago

This is half the fun of invading! There’s been quite a few times that people run from me but run directly into more dangerous mobs or terrain. Like damn yall had the numbers advantage what was the strategy there? 😂

u/HoshinK 27d ago

Yeah, the Titanite Demon in this location is one of my favorite allies)

u/Ghost_Mech 27d ago

I never knew this could happen.

u/Available-Laugh-9582 27d ago

I am in NG+6, and I did not know that the Silver Knight can do backstabs.....

u/DarkestOfTheLinks 27d ago

"cant kick your ass unless i get closer"

u/_Kabutops_ 27d ago

That’s the realest knight you’ll ever meet

u/Devkraft 27d ago

Do you get a lot of cheaters or bad hackers often? I Want to invade but I don't want to get my character trashed

u/AnywhereLumpy6149 27d ago

Use PvP Overhaul mod to avoid hackers.

u/HoshinK 27d ago

I play on the Switch and haven't met one in 300+ invasions yet.
