Ask Me Anything: I'm Julian Jensen, programmer, designer and "Father of the Elder Scrolls"
You can ask me anything but I don't remember everything, so no promises on the quality of answers. I will do my best, however.
Edited to add; I answered as many questions as I could get around to, leaving many unanswered, but will continue to answer more in the coming days. I skipped some of the longer ones because I felt they deserved more time and attention than I could fit into what's left of the evening. Anyway, I ask that you have a bit of patience with me as I come back and try to get through all of the questions. I will try to answer some every day.

Daggerfall Unity Quest 3 VR
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just a little something I've been working on. Daggerfall (DFU) ported to native Quest3 VR. Still rough and has bugs, but it works! I plan on getting 6dof hands and several other enhancements next. Inability to loot bodies is a known bug. https://github.com/rwcrosk-arch/dfu-quest3/releases

Question Missing weapon handles
Hi, I just noticed that weapons in my inventory have missing handles. Anyone has this or know why ?
I'm on Daggerfall Unity, I run Vanilla Enhanced, Unoffical Block Location & Model fixes, Expanded textures and Convenient questlog
I've played 10 hours so far, on this modlist and others, but I only noticed it now (maybe it was there before I don't know)

Character Build Silk the Unseen
Wrapping up on what turned out to be an insane vanilla build (no exploits needed).
No plate armor + Spell absorption, long blade mastery, turned vampire.
Basically a spell sword with a preference for blade.
The head canon is she's mainly a silver tongued bosmer who works her way on the inside of any faction / kingdom, but no real loyalty to any. Sick with a sword, uses your spells to heal herself.
Got a ton of head canon beyond that of course but, for gameplay, dude......like butter
Thoughts?

swaggerfall (ascii rpg) now playable on itch
My neo-retro ascii RPG is now playable for free on itch.
Doesn't have *that* much to do with Daggerfall, but I started working on it after watching a Wayward Realms stream and getting frustrated that it's taking them so long, so I made my own one with parcours and slime girls 💀 Was a bit of a joke project to begin with, but grew into something that's actually quite playable and I may pursue further.
Please forgive me for posting here once again. The response has been stellar last time. I'll now go on a bit of a vacation from gamedev (aka back to real job)

Astrid's Guide to Exorcisms - Necromancer Haunt
This is the necromancer haunt for the upcoming Daggerfall Unity mod, Astrid's Guide to Exorcisms. The necromancer raises the dead as it moves through the dungeon, requiring you to battle through it's minions to collect all cursed items to banish it for good.

Question Anyone know of a mod to buy a castle in the same way you buy a house?
I think my character would do well as a feudal lord.

P. S.: I know that one of the pics is from Oblivion, but it's better to build on that than on a bunch of black pixels

Question Need assistance - Mod Quest
I received this letter in my inventory, it is not in my quest log. Town NPCs pointed me to the house via rumor commentary. I found the nightblade in question. Although I have no idea how capture the nightblade alive. Maybe paralysis?
I have a quest, I'm sure it is from a mod pack. I have Random Little Quests(Mod) and Quest Pack 1(Mod) I'm sure I have other's, however pinning down which one, I'm not sure I'm equip for.
The letter item name is broken (maybe, or simply indifferent): Letter:ALIVE:=more_gold pieces
Anyone have an guess as to how to pull this off? Or, does anyone know how to discover what mod this quest may be related to? In my StreamingAssets folder I checked Quests, and QuestPacks folder, also the quest file in my save folder, but I'm unable to isolate this quest.
Got any ideas?

Not enough spell points boooo bad game
I’m on my first playthrough and it’s awesome, but I kinda messed up in character creation. I made mysticism a major skill, and I made destruction and resto minor skills, but they’re complete wastes because I don’t have enough spell points to cast anything. I’ve got like 27 and I just want enough to cast recall once. I can’t do enchantments because I cant join the mages guild, and I’m in the temple of akatosh so I can only train destruction. do I just have to hope I get a crazy magic item? is it worth it to pour all my points into int? help me out here

Question So I'm considering trying out Daggerfall, what is the best option for someone who wants a (mostly) vanilla experience?
Basically title, I'm ok with mods, it's a Bethesda game after all, and I've been seeing Daggerfall being relatively popular on YouTube for a while thanks to Daggerfall Unity, and the fact that the game is literally free to download certainly does help.
But.... what would be a decent way to get an experience that is close, or at the very least as close to the MS-DOS original as possible? Yes I could just run the original on DOSBOX and all, but Daggerfall Unity just feels like it will be much easier to get running, as well as having better modding support.
Like, when I say mostly vanilla, I mean retaining most of the pixelated 90's look of the game, no drastic changes to the UI, and preferably, at the original combat system, with maybe some quality of life here or there. I know Unity lets you toggle between a more Morrowind-like combat where you just click to attack and have all the associated dicerolls happen, or the original drag the mouse combat where you.... drag the mouse... But the reason why I want to keep it as close to the original design as possible as far as gameplay is concerned, is because while I was hesitant at first to not mod the combat of Morrowind and other gameplay features to remove all the dice rolls and make it play more like Skyrim, I found myself greatly rewarded for playing the game more or less as it was originally intended, and quickly realized that the whole dice roll system isn't as bad as I thought.
On the other hand, the MS-DOS version has more limited mod support, AND is extremely buggy just like every Bethesda game, and I've heard the original can get softlocked pretty easily, so... yeah... Just wanting an idea of what kind of setup could be good for my specific idea of a first Daggerfall playthrough, maybe get a compromise between vanilla and QOL, while still pending mostly to vanilla?
Also sorry for the wonky typing and grammar, I'm kinda sick today I have no energy to bother too much with formatting my post, and English is not my first language. Thanks

Question Daggerfall Unity Basic Roads
Is this mod broken? I’ve got it installed and enabled. I’ve tried putting it before and after DREAM mod in load order and it doesn’t work at all. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Mod Release: WormCult (Join the Necromancers)
Mannimarco wants YOU for The Order of the Black Worm!
Catch the attention of the King of Worms and get the chance to join the ranks of the Necromancers. This is a full-fledged guild with guildhalls, quests, ranks, and services. The initiation quest triggers when either your Mysticism or Nymph/Necromancy skill reaches 50.
Pair this mod with Language Skills Overhaul and Astrid's Guide to Necromancy for the full Necromancer experience. (NOTE: this is a replacement for Necromancer Quest Pack).

This game is pissing me off.
Every architect in Tamriel seems to have gone to the Winchester Mansion School of Architectural design. When I go into a closet that has its own closet, I find it a little immersion breaking.
Then when I get sent on a quest to go to a town named after a tavern that has four different taverns, I start gritting my teeth. The quest itself will send me to talk to Rhet at the Beaver and the Rascal, who tells me to ask Hter at the Rascal and the Imp in The Imp and The Beaver Inn Town, who will just tell me to go back to Rhet at the Beaver and the Rascal.
While looking for one of these characters, someone will spring another timed quest on me to save their son from the Dark Brotherhood. When I say no to the person I just met, they will guilt trip me and tell me they hope their son's ghost haunts me for the rest of eternity.
No wonder the Warp in the West happened. Everything happened in Daggerfall, which is to say nothing of substance actually happened. I will not be able to give you a story of my favorite NPC because it is physically impossible to keep any of them separate in my memories.

Considering embarking on a novelisation, wanted some advise as to whether to give the Agent a definite character or not.
The Agent found themselves in what seemed the depths of the world.
The Emperor’s galleon, loaned to the Agent and staffed by a small crew, had been bound for the troubled Kingdom of Daggerfall.
It had met, as sudden as a spell, a storm of supernatural ferocity, and crashed hard upon the shoals, somewhere along the Illiac Bay.
The Agent, lone survivor of the wreck, had sought shelter from the elements in a dismal looking cave.
No sooner had they entered than a rockslide occurred, blanketing the entrance to the cave in rubble, and stones.
They were plunged without pity into what may as well have been death: absolute darkness.
Their hastily built fire was the only
Surety of warmth in a dim and dreary place.
They surveilled their grim surroundings.
There was but one way out it seemed: Northward, deeper into the mouth of the Cave.
And judging by the distant roars, lurch of chains; and other sordid sounds coming from beyond the vestibule, out was not to be an easy journey.
Basically: keep them as an avatar: the agent, they, etc?

There's no option to ask for an important name.
I'm doing the Fighters Guild quest "Standard Protection." The UESP page on this quest tells me to read the letter I picked up off the victim's coprse. I did, and the guy's name is "Agrynak Gaerhart."
UESP page then tells me to ask about that name and I'll eventually be given the town he's in. Supposedly, I'm supposed to head to that town and avenge my client's death.
However, when I go to ask around for that name, the option doesn't even appear.
So, what am I supposed to do? Is the quest just bugged and I'm doomed to fail via quest timeout through no fault of my own?

Question Personal Goals during playthroughs?
Okay so, beating the main quest notwithstanding, what are some personal goals that you generally set out to achieve, that makes you feel like "yeah, I beat the game now that I've done/got this."
For me, it's affording a house with zero exploits, and that includes free housing from Knightly Orders, or Loan Fraud. It's always a long-term goal, and I've only done it legit maybe once.
