Stop showing respect for people's beliefsĀ (From r/Atheism)
āāāSo many people say you have show respect for people's religious beliefs. Fuck that! I see absolutely no reason to do so. In fact, I think it's better to show blatant disrespect. Fellow atheists need to speak up and stand up. Call people out, challenge them, make them question their own intelligence (or lack of). If we continue to just sit by and turn the other cheek or bite our tongue, nothing will ever change. The religious think they have every right to try and impose their beliefs onto others, and when someone doesn't agree, it's "disrespectful". Give me a break.
You can't drive for 5 minutes in this country without passing by a church or a sign or something that is trying to drive god's will up your ass. Stop giving them all the power. Please start speaking up, defending yourself, defend science and free speech, and at every opportunity throw them down for their idiotic and harmful beliefs. Make them feel shame and embarrassment just like they would do to an atheist.
Enough is enough.
Just a rant because things seem to be getting worse.
EDIT: just to clear some things up since some people seem to be confused. I'm not calling for violence in any way. Nor am I saying we should go out of our way to find every religious person on the street and yell and shout in their face. I'm simply saying that if you find yourself in a situation where you have the choice to speak up and challenge some religious person's ridiculous views, then speak up and challenge them. Also, vote.āāā
