Social Fun Team Bonding in Christchurch
Hey Chch 👋
Im new to Christchurch!
I'm a relatively new manager in a hotel F&B department and I'm looking at organising something for my team of around 20 people, mostly in their mid-20s.
It's been a bit of a transition period with a new manager, new processes and ways of doing things, so I'd really like to organise something that gets everyone away from work, mixes people up a bit and genuinely helps the team reconnect.
Ideally something that involves a bit of fun/competition + food/drinks + plenty of opportunity to actually talk and hang out.
Some ideas I've already come across:
Escape rooms
Game/quiz nights
Laser tag
Go-karts
Games/social venues
Cocktail or cooking experiences
A Christchurch scavenger hunt
Something around the CBD followed by food/drinks
Any help would be appreciated !

We went to Serve Social last year for our organisation's mid winter thing. 10/10, they set up a full table tennis tourney for you then ppl can just chill, get food, have a drink n play with one another on their stuff

Action dirt karts is really fun, one of my go to’ when organising stag doos and then places like the harewood are pretty close to go after. Out of all the go kart places, I’d recommend that in terms of fun. I guess it depends on what industry you’re in though and what the vibe is

Find a minigolf course, contact them about doing a late night event. We used to do that when I worked at one, and people had a blast.

Not in the CBD although she may be able to come to you but a woman in Sumner teaches how to make pasta classes, it’s so much fun making from scratch, you can take your own drinks etc and then you all sit down and eat what you made. Highly recommend. A cooking class is really fun and you learn a new skill too! I’d personally rather a cooking class over an escape room etc

Shoutouts to my pals at Zone67. They'll do airsoft or gel-blasters (the same but less intense) for a group. It's the indoor place out waltham way if you feel like something adrenaline-sy. Kinda like laser tag.
AMF Bowling over at Iverson terrace was surprisingly good vibes.
The Golf Warehouse driving range at riccarton is pretty sick now that they've got the trackman games. If you want to drink there's also the X Golf bar at Avonhead or the bowling place in Rolleston (Full Montys)

Check out Clued up, they do an amazing race kind of thing which was great fun and we had another social event after that to go through the team photos.

Take the group to a beginner’s judo class. It’s quite nerdy fun and physical yet achievable.

Good suggestion - my brother has Hatefunington's disease and is constantly getting upset at people trying to invite him to bonding events

Perhaps style it as a social event rather than a 'Team Bonding' exercise. Proper TB should happen as a natural consequence of shared work, with perhaps minor tweaking in communications, consensus, and conflict resolution. Rather than gamify it, just have fun, in a safe way.
