Karmek is a Duergar who uses Giant runic magic to fortify and empower his equipment. He has a brutish outward appearance but is actually a gentle soul that enjoys tinkering and making small contraptions. He is slightly taller than many other Duergar due to his mother being a goliath runesmith that taught him runic magic.
His father lead a rebellion of his people which got him exiled, he eventually made friends with an adventuring party that helped finish the revolution. After a few years of travel the party eventually retired and settled down. Karmek grew up with the mighty tales of his father and his friends. Karmek was close friends with the children of the adventures, all of which were born with the same golden eyes - an odd trait that no scholar had a true answer for.
His father's friends ("uncles and aunts") taught Karmek the beauty of the world and that strength is more than just physical. His uncles introduced Karmek to small contraptions like watches or mechanical toys, while his parents taught him how to be a warrior.
All this changed when Karmek's father disappeared, and he later learned that his uncles and aunts went missing around the same time. Karmek met up with one of his "cousins" and they have set out to figure out what happened to their family.
