Um incredible!!!! I was literally just looking up how to do thread painting embroidery. Did not expect this crossover. This is incredible!! Do you have a go to resource that you used to learn how to embroider like this?

Wait, that is a wild connection! I do not have a specific resource, alas. I started out doing pet portraits, which just made sense with stitches, and was really scared to try human portraiture. I work with a single strand at a time and carefully layer and stack the stitches to get them as smooth as possible.

Awesome!! I have some experience with embroidery but I really want to start doing bird thread painting. Did you dye the fabric too? It's just all so pretty!! The most beautiful thing I have seen in a while for sure!

I painted the linen with gouache paint. :) I created this piece as part of a monochrome art prompt which is why the background is also green unlike the reference image. I figured the mic and jewelry were small enough that it still fit the prompt. Thank you so much for your kind words! 💚

Heck yeah, me too! This is my fourth portrait of Chappell that could be classified as fiber art. I’ve done an embroidery piece, mixed media, as well as bead embroidery!

Yes, the embroidered parts were all worked with single strand, and then the crown was beaded and the background painted with gouache. I’d be happy to connect about embroidery techniques as you start your journey, though I am idiosyncratically self-taught so not always the most helpful.
