I visited the new plaza on Mayfield and Airport and was absolutely appalled by the amount of men loitering and standing in large groups. They just stare at everybody walking by. Is there anything we can do about this?? Feels so unsafe as a woman walking there.

This thing was up for a couple of hours last night . early morning (playing Etch-A-Sketch in two areas in Mississauga and Brampton @ 1400 ft. Bugger to sleep, and one would think CP24 or someone would have some "news" yet to be seen this morning.

Hellos to the the lovely community and redditors👋 My family and I moved to very edn/east side of Brampton (near Claireville Conservation) about 10-11 years ago. I was born and raised in Etobicoke and as a family, we would usually travel around the GTA often check places out. Growing up in this side of Brampton, I didn’t really travel around town to know any places nor was I really interested in Brampton itself I can’t lie. I’m currently 20 and I’m back at home since I’ll be working part-time and taking a break from school. I’ve got a lot of time on my hands and I’ve been thinking of spending more time outdoors to just relax and get some fresh air and just not sit at home all week. Im now more interested in exploring Brampton properly because it’s a fairly big city/area lol. I’ve been to gore meadows, a few malls, bowling/arcades, Chinguacousy, hiking trials and what not. Ive also been to near by café’s (barely anything past Starbucks, second cup, Tim’s, and other causal/small ones). There isn’t much public events or activities either and it feels very inactive or just dry in the sense that it doesn’t feel diverse with activities and things to do. The nearby restaurants aren’t that amazing or unique either (probably got used to it). The transit situation is also pretty frustrating, with buses being very full majority of the day AND night, being frankly uncomfortable to travel by on a casual day with long wait times between each bus. I used to bike to nearby places but even then it’s only to the places that aren’t too far from me.

I’m mainly looking to check out some lovely food places, shops with unique branding/clothing/gamer products/music related/antiques/collectibles/etc etc., definitely some Café’s, and other fun attractions. I will be avoiding any hiking trails and such because I don’t have anyone to accompany me and the weather is going to get colder in a month.😅. I don’t mind travelling and/or using transit to travel if the place I’m going to is worth spending time at or would be a nice experience and different experience. I’d love suggestions that are specifically in Brampton alone. Feel to DM your suggestions and thoughts and comments are always appreciated 🤗

P.S. Not sure if I could ask people to meet from this sub but I’ll just go for it lol. I would be open to anyone who is also interested in joining me on these side quests. Would prefer someone who was also born and raised here and is under 30. I’d also prefer if they were females/ladies. Reason is that I just want to balance my social life so it’s healthy and diverse as I’ve been only interacting with most of my male friends for some time now and I would like to take this opportunity to just put this out there in case someone else feels like they want to explore the town. It’s not a necessity but I’d very much be more comfortable with women. No, I’m not looking for or expecting anything nor do I have anything on my mind. If you’re genuine and optimistic, we’d be great friends and would have tons of fun making spontaneous plans.

This is a long shot maybe but I have this memory and was only a kid when it occurred and I cannot remember the mall. Posting to see if anyone might remember which one it was, as most malls in the area have changed.

This was in the 2000s, 2007-2010 maybe. My brother and I were in the mall with our parents and throughout the mall, there were these little planter areas, but they were in squares that had water in them. They weren’t fountains although I don’t remember if the mall had its own fountain. I just remember my brother started playing in it and he was a toddler at the time and got his pants wet.

Unfortunately cannot ask my parents but this has been eating at me for years. This definitely was in the GTA because I grew up in Brampton and I don’t remember it being a particularly long drive.

Hi all, when I look online everywhere says La Favourita (the Latin American grocery store downtown on Queen) is still open. But when my mom tried to go in she said it looked very closed or at least closed for the Queen st. construction. Does anyone have any info on if they actually are closed and if so, when they’d be reopening?

Anyone know if there are Chinese buffet restaurants in town, or nearby, that will let you fill up a to-go container for a fixed price? There used to be 2 or 3, but google is no help here. T & T does to go boxes, but they charge by weight.

Why does the city allow multi-hour or all day parties, club events and gatherings, and religious events in neighbourhood parks?

The people involved use loudspeakers to blast for all home owners to hear their music, speeches and singing for hours on end. Some of it sounds religious.

My own neighbourhood has something like the above happening every two to three weeks throughout the warm months of the year. I don’t want to hear their crap when I’m outside and especially when I’m inside my house.

Normally I discover they’re up to it again precisely because I can hear them from inside my home. There are zero warnings or announcements otherwise.

House parties are one thing, but the public neighbourhood park events attended by dozens (and sometimes hundreds) of people is whackadoodle. They should go to a community centre or city park - those spaces are catered for this.

I wanted to share a quick heads-up about an incident that happened on 05 September at around 9 PM in Banting Park.I was minding my own business walking and listening to music when a group of three kids riding ebikes intentionally threw water all over me and sped off. Two of them were wearing all-black outfits, and one was wearing a red hoodie. I tried to follow them to get their parents' contact info, but they were too fast on their ebikes.I am filing a report with Peel Police, but I wanted to alert the community. If you have kids who match this description or ride ebikes in this area, please talk to them about respecting others. If anyone else has experienced this tonight, please let me know.

An update: I have already spoken to one local parent in the area whose child knew the group, but I am putting this here so other parents are aware of what their kids are doing on these e-bikes.

There is a very simple question Brampton taxpayers should be asking City Hall:

Why are we moving City employees out of the West Tower when we are still paying for the West Tower?

Among other changes, Information Technology staff are being moved from the West Tower downtown to 175 Sandalwood Parkway, leaving several floors of the West Tower vacant.

I am told the plan is then to lease some of that vacant space out. This is seemingly corroborated by committee of council minutes.

If you’re saying, “WTF?” right now, you are not alone.

This game of municipal musical chairs exposes a problem even bigger than the controversial purchase of Sandalwood itself. It suggests Brampton does not have a coherent plan for managing the buildings taxpayers already own and pay for.

As I am clearly fond of saying: A failure to plan is a plan to fail.

The West Tower was built for exactly this purpose.
Brampton undertook the Southwest Quadrant Renewal project in part to provide City administrative space. The completed project includes the nine-storey West Tower, containing City administrative offices and meeting space.
The City’s financial commitment was enormous: approximately $205 million in minimum payments over the 25-year arrangement.
That was supposed to address our administrative-space needs.
So now we’re moving employees out of it and sending them to Heart Lake, into another building we just bought?
Make it make sense.
In 2023, Brampton bought 175 Sandalwood Parkway West for $77.9 million.
The City’s own public statement now says approximately 120 Information Technology employees are to be accommodated at Sandalwood between 2026 and 2027. The City describes approximately 40% of the Sandalwood building as office space.
And we’re spending more money preparing the building for all of these new uses.
Taxpayers deserve a clear explanation:
We committed roughly $205 million to secure major new downtown administrative space.
Then we spent another $77.9 million buying Sandalwood.
Now we are spending more money preparing Sandalwood for office employees who already worked in the West Tower.
And the result, I am told, will be several floors of the West Tower sitting vacant, with plans to lease some of that space to somebody else.
How is that good asset management?
What is wrong with the office space taxpayers are already paying for downtown?
If the West Tower cannot properly accommodate these employees, tell us why.
If it needs renovations, tell us what they would cost.
If consolidating staff at Sandalwood will actually save taxpayers money, show us the business case.
If leasing the West Tower space will generate more money than this move will cost, show us those numbers too.
Maybe there is a good explanation.
Then publish it.
Because without one, this looks like gross mismanagement.
I have some experience with this.
As a lawyer and business owner, I have managed leased office space in multiple locations and multiple cities.
Then COVID fundamentally changed how my firms operated.
So I adapted.
We moved offices. We consolidated. Some employees began working remotely. We closed locations that no longer made financial sense. We looked at how much space we actually needed, what it cost us, and whether we were getting value for our money.
Those decisions were not always convenient.
They were necessary.
That’s what happens in the real world when you’re spending your own money.
You don’t buy another building because you can. You don’t maintain unnecessary office capacity indefinitely. You don’t renovate one building while leaving perfectly usable space somewhere else empty without first doing the math.
You adjust.
Then again, I never had the benefit of the seemingly bottomless purse this Council appears to think exists.
And responsibility here does not end with senior staff.
Council approved the purchase of Sandalwood. Council approves the budgets. Council is responsible for overseeing how hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are spent.
Senior management should have a coherent corporate real-estate strategy.
Council should demand one.
Before Brampton buys another office building, leases another floor or spends another dollar renovating administrative space, I want a complete public inventory of City-owned and City-leased property.
For every administrative building, tell us:
How much space do we have?
How much of it is actually occupied?
How many employees work there?
How much are we paying to operate it?
How much vacant space are we carrying?
What leases are coming due?
What renovations are planned?
And, most importantly:
How much office space does the City of Brampton actually need?
As Mayor, I will require that review and put the results in front of taxpayers. If resistance comes from Council or the administration, I will use every lawful authority available to the Mayor to get the answers.
Because taxpayers should not have to play detective to find out whether City Hall is wasting their money.
This isn’t an accusation of corruption.
It is an accusation of gross mismanagement.
Brampton taxpayers have already paid for enough buildings.
It’s time City Hall learned how to manage them.
This October, elect Wesley Jackson for Mayor of Brampton.
