JV WHILE CREATING ____45____

Can someone explain what number 45 signifies though? I have just completed listening to 22AM 2nd time. I think it's peak. Will definitely grow on me eventually, slowly.

Idk why I think this and I have 0 evidence to back it up but I've always thought of that song title as a blacked out phone number. It's 11 characters so that fits a phone number with an extension code like X-XXX-45X-XXXX

But it's probably just a coincidence lol

HOLY that's interesting, anyway.

I think the number of underscores is just because it’s 4 for 4 and then 5 for 5

I'm confused, how is it peak AND will grow on you?

I meant it's peak bon iver but after multiple listens time to time depending on my mood and environment it has potential to even feel better, hence it shall grow on me. Like there was huge difference in how it made me feel between my 1st and 2nd listens. Probably because I went in expecting something close to previous 2 albums.

Thinks it’s a play on fortify

Also, there’s 4 underscores before and 5 afterwards

I personally like to think this was more his POV when cooking this gem up. He’s that blue/green rock there :)

Holy shit dude, you just took me back down the rabbit hole.. I’ve never really thought in depth about the significance of the title until now.

It’s pretty widely considered that the main significance of 45 is the numbers total to 9.. which being the 9th song on the album. Theres also the detail of 4 underscores before and 5 underscores afterward.

That’s always been where I’ve stopped before.

One thing I have always thought about though, is the meaning behind this mantra of a song.

What’s pinned by Genius, and what a lot of people seem to go with, is an interpretation of the experience of a panic attack. I don’t buy that.

To me it’s much more straightforward and existential.

“I’ve been carved in fire” - what we’re made of; forged in the belly of a star.

“I’ve been caught in fire” - here we are cradled by the sun; given life

“What comes prior to?” - ???

“Without knowing what the truth is” - nobody knows

So then what could ____45_____ signify?

“The number 9 is revered in Hinduism and considered a complete, perfected and divine number because it represents the end of a cycle in the decimal system, which originated from the Indian subcontinent as early as 3000 BC.”

Also check this math out!

My interpretation:

maybe the 4 and 5 represent 2 facets of existence, through duality (his favorite). Me, and you. The incomplete truths, each side of the coin.

And the underscores before and after are… the math ahead, and the math behind it ???

P.S. Your second listen!? That’s wild! I kinda wish I could go back to the beginning and experience it all over again.

It doesn’t truly peak until at least 45th listen :)

My interpretation is pretty simple:

Carved/caught in fire is a reflection on challenges/obstacles/trauma shaping your sense of self and character

Stayed down / without knowing what the truth is refers to needlessly bringing yourself down

I have no idea what five lane divers means lol

Brainstorming here… maybe… 45 like a 45 record, going round and round, like being carved and caught and carved and caught in fire, like being trapped in a cycle without achieving an epiphany and breaking free.

And then finally that banjo at the end, representing a release from it all, a submission to the process and to life, to not knowing and knowing you’ll never actually know, and achieving a kind of peace at last…

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say it’s a basketball jersey number and or reference to the 45th president.
