Question Belarusians, what do you think of beans?

I am on a mission now to ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘

Hello Belarusians!! You're the first slavs of this bean journey and the 16th in alphabet order :)

Beans are an integral part of Belarusian cuisine. It's believed that bean dishes were brought to the then Grand Duchy of Lithuania by Jews fleeing persecution in Western Europe. In Poland, Jews are still derogatorily called "Fasoliowcy." Many have written about their favorite bean dishes here. I'll describe mine.

There's a delicious bean and mushroom dish. The beans are boiled and mashed in a mashed potato. Add an egg and a little flour. Make a dough and fry patties. Then, make a sauce from the mushrooms. Fry with onions and thicken with flour or starch and milk. Pour this sauce over the bean patties.

Friend, you may not have had the opportunity to experience this. But I have.

Plenty od derogatory words to call Jews or others in Polish. This is not one of them. I thought maybe I never heard it. I googled, I checked. That's just not a word.

Btw., if anything, it would be fasolowcy not fasoliowcy, but that's just the detail.

Let’s start with the most important question that baffles me for a long time - what exactly is beans? Is it бобы, as I thought for a long time? Or фасоль?

Bean soup is one of my favorites, especially with rye bread and horseradish paste for extra kick
