Discussion/আলোচনা Religion has ruined Bangladesh

Almost all issues in desh r because of religion. What is wrong with us. How can we let religion prevent us from developing? Every country is moving forward and developing except for us. You practice religion at home. It is meant to be a beautiful relationship between you and your creator. Not a metric for evaluating the value of another human being and creating class in society. Furthermore, it is not meant to be a means of feeling superiority! When will you all get over your stupid religious superiority?? If we want to move forward as a nation we must treat society with secular moralistic principles. Not a list of religious dos and don’t. And if you ACTUALLY established a relationship with god, you wouldn’t feel the need to loudly enforce your own beliefs to everyone else.

We Indians see no hope in Pakistan as well as Bangladesh.

What do we care how you see us? Wtf??? You literally have a freaking Hindu nationalist party in charge??? WTH are you talking about? This is peak narcissism.

u/Worldly_Ad4841 Dec 22 '25

The audacity!! Who cares if they see no hope in us? As if India is New Zealand!! Even a few days back a Hindu Dalit man was beaten to death in Kerala( supposed to be their most educated and liberal state) because mob “thought” he was Bangladeshi. And I don’t see any media personalities talking about it. Such hypocrisy

u/ImperialOverlord zamindar/জামিনদার 💰💰💰 Dec 22 '25

Your country is famous for mob violence and state sponsored hate crimes, and is red listed by the United States government officially while Bangladesh is not due to religious persecution. Ours is not. It’s too bad we can’t shut you out due to your sheer size. I don’t see any hope in India from a logical perspective whatsoever. It’s a nation only glued together by religion and nothing else, and the only thing you’re good at is pretending to be secular while doing everything possible not to be secular.

u/naxylea Dec 22 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

It's more like, the poorer the country, the more radical the population gets in terms of their religious beliefs. Being poor and wanting to find solace in religion ends up being intrinsically related. Countries that have a better and good standard of living don't seem to be nearly as religiously radical. Before anyone comes here saying look at how rich the middle east is, those mfers ain't religious. They just know how to use it to benefit themselves.

u/Kai1977 Dec 22 '25

religion is the opium of the masses

u/mysteriouschigma2005 Jan 13 '26

since our independence we have generally been getting less and less poor, but religious extremism has only risen

u/ConsciousPop3168 🇧🇩দেশ প্রেমিক🇧🇩 Jan 20 '26

This has more to do with how poor people live now. Back in the days, people were poor but they were busy working to bring food to the table. Now, we are systematically poor and can’t even find any work to do, thus we end up being hopeless. When people lack opportunities and purpose, that sense of hopelessness can make them more vulnerable to radical ideas.

I had a serious fight with my coworker (i feel disgusted to call him coworker) today. According to him it was india who caused the 1971’s war Pakistan was innocent. When asked why pakistan killed these innocent people and raped the women his answer was those were hindus so its justified. When i asked why dipu was killed he said its because dipu badmouthed the prophet. I asked him did prophet asked us to attack other religion’s people he said prophet asked us to jihad..so yeah..im leaving this country by hook or crook

u/International_Ant841 Dec 22 '25

so sorry u had that experience :((( its disgusting there are people who think like that.

As a bengali, I am getting some hope after reading ur comment atleast someone knows the actual history and it is Pakistan who destroyed bangladeshi folks and not India.

Long live our relation with Bangladesh, love from epar bangla ( kolkata)

u/taz_me Dec 30 '25

Really sad to hear this, the problem lies with the intelligence and religious fanatics among the general population of Bangladesh, this country is doomed to failure, do mind that getting residency is getting harder abroad with increase of racism and neo Nazis. Best of luck regardless, plan carefully and move forward

u/Perry_dePlatypus Jan 25 '26

This comment gave me hope.

u/raknapiDskcoR Jan 26 '26

Just a simple fact: in india there are lakhs of Bangladeshi immigrants living and earning legally or illegally. Still there is no serious incident like dipu nor outrage. Meanwhile i have still not heard of them working and travelling on visas to Pakistan. Propaganda and hatred is convenience, Textile mills are shutting and debt is rising, nation going towards doom. Youth is like hot metal if not shaped properly with good tools it will melt and damage permanently.

u/MicroppDetected Dec 22 '25

I've said this before and will say it again. When you blame scripture instead of people, you remove agency and accountability from these people. The disease that is spreading is right wing populism and it's hiding behind religion and national identity. It's the same in every country behind a different mask - in India it is Hinduism, in Israel it is Judaism, in US it is Christianity and in Bangladesh it is Islam. If you removed all scripture from the world, people would still do all the heinous things they do but put a different name on it. Hold people accountable. No scripture compels people to rape, kill and loot. Hate does. Religion gives people an excuse to justify these horrific acts but they commit them for greed and bloodlust.

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

In fact, scriptures say not to kill, loot, or rape others.

u/HaruhiFuji4 Dec 30 '25

It also allows the same in Hadiths. Listen, religion is something that prohibits an evil thing and, in other parts, allows the same thing it prohibited in some other contexts. That's why we have people who keep fighting over which interpretation or messages are correct. Good people tend to gravitate towards the positive messages, and some tend to think that committing evil against those they deem evil is totally justified. That's how you manipulate: you supply BOTH the good and the bad.

u/Unlucky-Meringue2147 🇧🇩দেশ প্রেমিক🇧🇩 Dec 22 '25

well said

u/HaruhiFuji4 Dec 30 '25

Of course you would blame the Programming and conditioning. Religion is a mind control tool . Human beings are capable of being moral, ethical, responsible and accountable WITHOUT religion.

u/MicroppDetected Jan 12 '26

Sure humans are capable of morality without religion but that is not the argument I'm making. When you blame some words written on a piece of paper instead of holding those actually commiting crimes, you are still thinking of these people as some mindless zombies who are incapable of free thought. If you have read my other comments in this very thread, you will see I said that religion is the tool of subjugation but man is master of the tool. Religion is not to blame here because plain words cannot compel a person to take action unless they are used a certain way. The people who use religion to brainwash the masses must be held responsible. Blaming religion gives them the excuse to hide behind "religious duty" as they continue to hurt people. Don't give them refuge by blaming lifeless words. Actions hurt people not words.

Humans are not moral, ethical, responsible or accountable because if they were we would be perfect but we are not. We are imperfect beings who do good and bad things and we try to explain the why behind our actions by concepts such as morality, ethics, religion, whatever makes sense to us in the moment. All these things are arbitrary in the long run as we live in a dynamic setting. Once upon a time when we lived in caves, it was moral to steal your neighbor's food because it meant you would survive that season. It was considered moral to stone people to death at one point in time also but now it's not. Child marriages were moral and so were child mercenaries. Death penalties are still considered moral today and maybe they won't be in the future. All these concepts are malleable and change with time. Right now we say we don't need religion to be moral but we aren't the first to come to that conclusion and neither will we be the last. I'm not saying that we need religion, just that to think that at this point in time we are suddenly so civilized, we don't need something ever again, something that still has a strong hold on your fellow man, unfortunately paints an incomplete picture of the complexity of human beings. If you've read history, you'll know that all things are cyclical and even if we move away from where we are right now, we are bound to come back here again. This debate will go on. Maybe the next gods will be more palatable to our tastes - it could be something material like money or fresh water, or something abstract like the one god who knows?

u/dark_soul9412 Jan 24 '26

Bro Islamic scriptures literally ask you to convert people to Islam, not to befriend non believers, take women as sex slaves after winning a war. It’s all public knowledge now. This is the age of the internet, stop pretending that all religions are the same. Time to call out this bullshit.

u/MicroppDetected Jan 26 '26

Ashchen arekjon ajaira pechal parte. Do you think the other abrahamic faiths don't have violence in their books? In hinduism, there is also violence but justified in vague terms as "protect yourself" etc which can be interpreted in many ways. Your obsession with one ideology over others shows how unread you are. So are all Christians, Jews violent or not real followers of their religions? So when hindus lynch muslims in India are they true followers of their religion because "hindu khatre mein hein"? Are muslims the only true followers of their religion if they are violent? How you choose to use the scripture is a personal choice. Words don't have power unless they are followed by action. You use violent muslims to define islam but leave out violent people of other religions when it comes to defining other ideologies. The solution to this ignorance (lol calling out bullshit) is to READ more than just the quran. Islam is not unique or above others in any way or fashion. All ideologies have the potential to be misused. All ideologies, even the ones that aren't faith based, are dangerous if they develop a cult like following. These are based on men's actions and I repeat, not on lifeless words in a book. You have to hold people accountable for their actions instead of giving people the excuse to hide behind religious scripture. Reading comprehension is a good skill to have.

Which religion is good? Do you know of one that doesn't have a history of being used to justify something wrong? Who uses religion/national identity/fear of the unknown, what have you, to blind, to instigate the masses? Do they have an agenda? Don't they deserve to be held accountable? Do all faults lay in the books?

I used to think like you but you need to see past the veil. The real evil is hiding behind religion. Religion is the tool of subjugation but man is the master of the tool.

Sorry to say but your words will not reach those blind believers. They are mostly active on Facebook. (Even if you post on Facebook, they will oppose you heavily). It's not fruitful to teach them by simple words.

I do agree that religion is one of the most important factors in life, but you may not weaponize it.

u/TotallyLegitUser0 Dec 22 '25

Won’t matter When was the last time one person managed to change the mindset of an entire hivemind, regardless of political ideology.

What usually happens is that their belief will only get stronger, again, regardless of belief or ideology.

It's less 'religion' and more 'too much dhormio abeg without any dhormio gyan'.

Anyone with even basic Islamic education can point out that the bullshit that happens here in the name of "Islam" isn't at all okay under actual Islamic law.

Also, the people who engage in said bullshit are rarely ideal followers or Sharia themselves. These fuckers will often wave Taliban flags and chant "Khilafat chai" on streets in day and rawdog their gf or jack off to porn at night.

It doesn't take a Madina University education to know just how insanely disrespectful to Islam these hypocritical attitudes are, and yet they're pretty widespread in BD society anyway.

u/WinterPurple73 Dec 22 '25

Probabem with Islam is that it is not just a Religion, it has a political framework to insert itself everywhere.

Islam needs a complete reform like Christianity to reduce extremism

u/TotallyLegitUser0 Dec 22 '25

Something something entire life system, my ahh

u/Mr_Ignorant Dec 22 '25

IMO, the issue is that 1. Religion is used as a form of control.

  1. This gets further enforced, by having all the mufti’s making political statements, and tying it to religion. There are far too many Islamic speech’s occurring where the preacher is too busy being angry and riling people up. The audience then get angry, and motivated, and go home. Where they sometimes take it out on their family, have these ‘fun’ conversation with friends, and on rare occasions, someone gets hurt.

It's interesting to note that corruption has had a devastating impact on the subcontinent and its religious practices. While other countries may embrace religion, they do not experience the same level of corruption we do. In the subcontinent, religion often serves as a tool for control and justification of wrongdoing, rather than promoting peace, harmony, and prosperity.

Pretty much all Major Countries of South Asia have been affected and ruined in some way because of Religion. Afghanistan, Pakistan and India too. It's one of the major factors if not the only factor which has allowed BJP to rule here in India for so long. Try saving your own country too before it's too late, Combat against Radicalism and don't let Jamaat win elections. Good Luck.

We have a population of 180 million, and the vast majority are severely uneducated and uncivilized. Religion is their only way out. It's the same reason why Bengal itself was divided into three parts.

You may not like this, but people who think like you don't make up even 0.01% of the population. You belong to a very, very tiny vocal group and so your voice does not matter in the slightest. We like to make fun of "Touhidi Janata" but realistically even they have 100x more following than your ideology.

u/LongjumpingLeader458 khati bangali 🇧🇩 খাঁটি বাঙালি Dec 23 '25

Funny how you didn't mention lack of proper education.

u/International_Ant841 Dec 23 '25

Well I mean you have to be uneducated + radically religious to do the things half the incels in Desh are. If someone is educated, they are most likely not going to be radically religious.

u/taz_me Dec 30 '25

Educated ones are on Facebook commenting and justifying those heinous acts , they are just educated enough not to commit it themselves.

u/Significant_Roll_490 Dec 28 '25

The issue is without our people, that is the harsh truth very few people want to admit. Most of our populace is illiterate, not in just education sense but also common civic sense, highly emotional and lack the intellectual ability to critically think. Just look at Malaysia, where many of our workers go and work, they are a Muslim majority country coexisting with a diverse culture and religions, the problem lies within ourselves

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

Everyone is equal in eye of god. We all call god with different name, but it is the same supreme god we worship. God do treat everyone of us equally Is it enough to lynch me?

u/MadanSenki Dec 30 '25

Not because of religion but poverty. Which in turn caused by over population.

u/Effbee48 Yunusexual Dec 22 '25

Retarded take. The thing holding Bangladesh back is greed.

Greed of politicians and leaders, greed of bureaucrats, greed of businessmen, greed of individuals, greed of your coworkers, greed of your neighbours, greed of your own relatives even family.

Religion is one of tools these greedy people are misusing to achieve their goal. Dipu wasn't killed due to misunderstanding, he was purposefully framed by his own coworkers due to their workplace dispute, who incited a mob upon him. They consciously planned murder of their coworkers due to greed.

Political parties in Bangladesh aren't ideological parties first and foremost, they are mafia clique waiting to get in power, and then using their position to enrich their member. That's why BD is such a shithole.

u/bbqgorilla Dec 22 '25

Lol so the 100s of people who set him on fire they did it because of the workplace dispute? The workplace dispute was the “hidden agenda” not the reason he was lynched

u/rked27 Dec 22 '25

Religion itself is not the problem, the problem lies in how people interpret and use it. In practice, many individuals behave in ways that directly contradict the moral teachings their religions promote. A far greater issue is unemployment and the lack of productive opportunities. when people have nothing meaningful to do, frustration and conflict grow.

Throughout history, religion has often been presented as the cause of conflict, but the underlying motives were usually power, land, control, trade, or political dominance. Religion was merely the tool, not the root cause. In that sense, religion becomes a problem only when it is exploited for ulterior motives. What truly matters is developing stronger critical and cognitive thinking, rather than blindly using belief systems to justify harmful actions.

Think.

u/Dhakaiya1 All men will die and will be resurrected Dec 22 '25

Yes, political religion, not actual religion of God.

u/Alert-Trifle-4971 Dec 22 '25

Can you actually speak of the problem? Like where do you have the problem? Which religion is asking to not study or anything similar? Or like where's the connection to what you are saying?

u/International_Ant841 Dec 22 '25

using religion to justify violence, harassment, lack of critical thinking. leading to the weaponization of it for human ego.

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

The problem is that people listen to what religious people say, and they're often wrong. Instead of resolving a doubt by looking for the answer in the Quran and the hadith, they rely on "pseudo-sheikhs" who brainwash people. Before reading the translation of the Quran, I was convinced that divorce is illegal in Islam and that it's okay to mistreat a non-Muslim. In short, it's up to you to decide who you listen to or what you read.

u/marketingprodxb Dec 24 '25

Stop blaming everything on religion ffs. People have freewill to make their own decisions and no religions forces them to do stupid things.

Our country initially was established on the basis of religion and language later on.

Religion has ruined Bangladesh

This makes no sense for now or ever. Just blame religion and move on. Bro, what about corruption? Is this a religious problem? Look at Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, etc. What impact does religion have on them? No impact at all. Stop blaming religion. The main reason is the lack of education and awareness.
