Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar

Upvotes

[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:

[VIC] How do I get a licence?

or

[NSW] What does military appearance mean?

If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.

Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.

Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.

As /u/ramathaham said:

Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.

Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Spam
Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.

Upvotes

Hi cobbers,

We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.

Please refer to the community info before posting.

NO SALES POSTS

Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.

THE RULE

Try not to be a dick.

Legislation- Western Australia Collectors licence help

Upvotes

Hoping someone can help me please. I’m trying to assist my uncle with his Collectors Licence and he is required to provide written submissions regarding the Historical or Thematic Value – see Regulations 120 and 122 for guidance.

Is there a specific layout or information we should include? I’m quite inexperienced with firearms and he’s becoming frustrated with the process and just wants to give up. Thank you

Legislation- ACT Shooting on ACT range with NSW Licence and firearms, much legal differences to be aware of?

Upvotes

I’m planning a range trip to Canberra Rifle range soon to sight in and test some new loads in my Taipan X .223 and Lithgow Model 12 .22. I have a NSW A B H licence and rifles are registered in NSW.

Are there any different laws to be aware of, in NSW the taipan x is banned soon but currently still legal on Cat B if you have one. Is the ACT the same?

cheers

Storage in Melbournes East

Upvotes

I'll probably not be able to store a rifle at my place, so looking at locations I can store one.

Assume SSAA Springvale, but anyone know of anywhere else?

Newbie question First range day tips?

Upvotes

I'm heading to a range for the first time and want to be prepared. Could you share some tips about range safety, etiquette, and general practical advice? I'll be sighting in my first rifle, do SSAA ranges typically have rests available to rent or should I invest in my own? Cheers!

Gear & Accessories Best Rest Bags for Practical Farm Shooting?

Looking for a rest bag for shooting on farm from Fence posts, vehicle, trees, rocks etc

Surprisingly pricey. Found 3 options. Anyone using these or have better suggestions?

The Caldwell Tack Driver X bag seems a bit stiff/rigid for balancing on random objects so may be better suited as a bench rest?

Just Showing Off Beretta 92X 1000 rounds in

Thumbnail

Upvotes

After a long wait and considerable deliberation, I picked up my first handgun on this license and I chose the Beretta 92X.

As a returning shooter, I’d had my time with other pistols. Various 1911s, P226, a few revolvers. I ended up choosing the Beretta because I never got the chance to get intimate with the platform. I handled one before but I didn’t vibe with the grip and the trigger reset was, like my P226, a bit long for my liking. Though it was a beautiful handgun, I never shot the P226 as well as I did my 1911s. They sold a short trigger reset kit for the P226 but I never got around to installing one and before long, I had sold it and moved to Oz.

Enter the Beretta 92X. A modernised classic with the new, slimmer, “Vertec” grip and a shorter trigger reset. I was intrigued.

The pistol feels good in hand and that trigger is crisp. Boy, is she accurate. Even with cheap Blazer ammo she stacks the rounds.

With my rifles, I can shoot under 1/2MOA but handguns provide an entirely different experience. The challenge is thoroughly enjoyable.

My benchmark is the #12 Standard Centrefire comp at my SSAA range. One-handed, bullseye style. 10 shots at 10M and 10 shots at 15M. Currently trying to beat my best score of 186/200. I shot a 171 today and I will gleefully try again next week.

Lap of Aus, bringing firearms along for the ride

Upvotes

I'm WA based, looking at doing a bit of a lap next year. I'm considering bringing along 1 or 2 firearms with a genuine view to conduct some hunting where possible, likely Vic, NSW, QLD and NT.

Has anyone has any experience with the legal requirements of doing this? Do you need to get established properties with letters sorted for states that don't have state forest hunting etc? Considering there may be months in between shoots, how do you store it / justify if there is a stop by the cops?

Keen to hear any thoughts from anyone who may have done this in the past. As I understand it, I've got the hardest state (WA) ticked off as I have legitimate properties to access here and they are permanently stored here, but the other states and border crossings I don't know!

Cheers

NSW PTA issued in 7 days

Upvotes

First cat B put in end of march. 150+ days not issued yet.

Submitted another end of August and it was issued in 7 days.

For all of you that have a similar situation and won't be over any of the proposed limits and can spare $30 for the gamble. Might be worth a shot.

My suspicion is that pre new safe check requirement & safe check appeared on PTAs, all PTAs were put in a queue. This is the 150+ backlog they are working through.

New PTAs might be somewhat automated if safe check case number is linked to your license.

Finally got my hands on a Swiss 1897 Kadet rifle. One of the rarer Swiss military rifles.

I know he will come through claiming credit for the find so thanks in advance Elroy!

She has some bumps and bruises but is mechanically perfect.

General Discussion 6.5 Creedmoor load testing.

Upvotes

These were the best performers from previous ladder testing.
The 100m shots were taken from a seated position with bipod and rear bag, 236m shots were taken standing leaning over a bench with bipod and rear bag, but bench height made it pretty hard to get into a comfortable position.

130 grain seated at 2.810 COAL which is the maximum length I can achieve with this projectile. Which is .080 from the lands.

147 grain seated at 2.860 which is the maximum length I can fit into the magazine, still around .038 from the lands.

Rifle is a Howa 1500 in an MDT field stock, 24 inch barrel with a Zero Tech Trace 4.5-27 scope.

Advice for first time second hand gun buyer?

Upvotes

Hi all, my buddy and I are looking into buying an old Czech assembled (Brno), Israeli modified Mauser .308/7.62x51 that was listed on SSAA gun sales.

The seller has invited us to a meeting at a gun shop near him to inspect the rifle and discuss the purchase.

Neither of us have experience with purchasing second hand. How is buying second hand different from buying straight from a dealer? Are there any specific things to check/do?

We've heard that we should get an appraisal for the rifle, are there any unspoken rules about this kind of thing? Wouldn't want to come off as impolite to the seller.

Thanks for any help!

Used gun websites

Upvotes

Would there be any interest for a used gun site that mashes em all into one place, a marketplace for used firearms if you will, are people still buying used guns?

I love to browse and find myself trawling through multiple different sites hunting for cool stuff when I'm bored.

That process grew tiring pretty quick so I built a site that compiles the main 6 I use but before sharing it and possibly upsetting the greater community, I'd be keen to know if there's an intrest for it?
