Edit: I genuinely didn’t realize how many people dislike the food and coffee in their own city 😂 But I guess that’s the thing about food right? It’s entirely subjective and comes down to personal taste. I loved what I tried in places like Copenhagen, SF, Italy and Paris…and I still think Austin holds its own. Both things can be true!

As someone who has traveled around the US quite a bit and also to Europe, I really think Austin has one of the best coffee and bakery scenes. Maybe not everyone will agree with me but I stand by it lol.
I recently went to Denmark and tried some of the really well known bakeries there, including places I had seen featured on TV shows like ‘The Bear’ and shows where chefs go for inspiration. And don’t get me wrong, they were really good. This is not Denmark hate at all lol. But the whole time I kept thinking that some of the bakeries we have here in Austin are just as good, if not better.
Even with coffee, I went to places that are supposedly considered some of the best coffee shops in the world and honestly?? I’ve had better coffee in Austin.
We may not always like the prices here because yes, paying $12 for a pastry hurts 😂 But I think we sometimes forget how genuinely good the quality is and how many great options we have. There are so many places here doing really creative things and doing them extremely well.
Maybe I’m biased, but traveling made me appreciate Austin’s food scene more, not less. Anyway, that’s my opinion nobody asked for. What Austin bakery or coffee shop do you think could compete with anywhere else in the world?

Hi Austin! My wife and I will be coming into town for a wedding at the end of October and are gonna spend a couple extra days not a part of the wedding event. Former employer refusing to pay me > $11,000 in owed wages. Already placed a wage claim with the Texas workforce commission, but I was a 1099 contracted employee so not sure if that’ll be of any use. My contract says disagreements need to be handled via arbitration.

Where can I find band performances or circles that dabble in heavy metal music and culture around here?

I really wanna attend some live performances and shows. I know Austin City Limits is coming up but I'm not planning to go this year. Right now, I'm mostly looking for small local bands and performances, and places that host these shows. I'm mostly into all kinds of rock and metal, but progressive, alternative, grunge, power metal and dreamcore are some I enjoy the best.

Can anyone help me with this?

Howdy. I'm David Weinberg, a candidate running for Austin City Council District 5 this November. I'm running in a district south of the river which is pretty heavily Democratic. There's a measure on the ballot that will require the city to do an independent audit. Opponents of this measure say they are against because Save Austin Now worked to put it on the ballot, or that its not needed because Mayor Watson initiated a Council-led outside audit earlier in the year. Most voters I have talked to seem to be in favor of the idea, and a recent poll I ran in the district showed support for it above 70%.

What are your thoughts?
