Barev dzez, could anyone tell me what this buidling was used for during Soviet times? It is located on Mikoyan Street in Nor Nork. I walked by this everyday when I stayed in Armenia for a month. Thank you.

Hi, I'm traveling to Yerevan on Tuesday and I read that the Dancing Fountains show won't be running that day for weekly maintenance. Could someone confirm this?

Thanks

Sports / Սպորտ Volleyball court rental in Yerevan

Upvotes

I'm looking for places to rent an indoor volleyball court to play with a group of friends. Ideally in Kentron or not too far out.

We'd like something flexible where we can rent about once a week depending on our availability.

And while I'm at it, same question for football fields (indoor/outdoor, turf or not).

Thanks for any leads 🙏

Need Help Translating in Western Armenian

Upvotes

Բարեւ! I am an Armenian that speaks Western Armenian, but not fluently. I’m learning slowly but surely.

I am trying to write and read something sappy to my boyfriend, who speaks fluently and has been helping me with my homework recently. It’s a surprise.

Can someone message me and help me translate what I’ve written? :’)

Army / Բանակ Military Service - Diasporan

Upvotes

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out the military conscription laws, but my online research isn't helping much. I left Armenia 25 years ago and have visited every year since then with no issues. I am a citizen of the United States. I'm currently 27 y/o and thinking about renewing my Armenian passport. My Armenian passport hasn't been renewed since I left the country. I do plan to continue visiting Armenia every year as a tourist, and am also considering taking a 1-year job opportunity there. If I renew it now, will I have issues with military conscription? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you.

Repatriate! / Հայրենադարձվի՛ր Citizenship by descent

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to apply for Armenian citizenship by descent and I wonder what documents people in a similar situation submitted and if my documents are sufficient.

My dad is Armenian by nationality and is an Armenian citizen. I want to apply for citizenship by descent, and I currently have the following documents issued not in Armenia:

  • paternity recognition certificate (it says he's Armenian by nationality)
  • my birth certificate (it also says he's Armenian by nationality)

He's also renewing his Armenian passport now, and I'll have a scan of it in a month or so.

I wonder is these documents would be enough for me to apply and get an approval?

Would appreciate any advice and help!

Advice needed, have you ever been provided a service by a company named AybCraft (a renovation company) ? I wanted to understand if I am the only one who is dissatisfied and disappointed in them.

Choosing good universities in Armenia

Upvotes

Since I'm planning to move to Armenia by next year, i want to continue my studies in Yerevan.
I'm currently a Computer Science student and I want to apply for AUA, and a friend recommended EUA (European University of Armenia) too and said it's also good for IT majors.

I have some other friends in different universities like Yerevan State University or the Polytechnic in Yerevan, but i really don't know what to choose and what's best for me.

I would love some help from people with experience on this matter. I personally lean towards AUA the most since i did most of my research on it and it is said to be the best university in Yerevan, but let me know if you guys have any opinions.

Ruins of Saint Thomas Armenian Church

Upvotes

I photographed this church this summer.

It is located on a steep hill 2.5 km northwest of the village of Altınsaç (Գանձակ), nowadays a Sunni Kurdish settlement on the southern shore of Lake Van.

Prints are available, of course.

can i still call myself as an armenian if i’m 25% armenian?

Upvotes

my grandma was armenian. that’s where my armenian heritage comes from. i am familiar with armenian foods, music, traditions, religion. i do know how they work and i’ve done lots of research on the culture so i do make sure i’m connected to it. i eat armemian food often. i wan to live in armenia someday, and experience life there, and i also want to learn the language, become fluent in it.

the only thing i don’t know is the language itself and i haven’t been to armenia yet. i will definitely achieve those goals, but right now, all i got is knowledge, not any real life experience.

can i right now call myself an armenian? i just say that i’ve got armenian heritage, whenever someone asks my ethnicity. i’ve never had the courage to call myself as armenian, i feel like i don’t have any right to do that. yet i really want to because i love armenia so much, i feel so much pride about the fact that i’m armenian.

the other day i met someone armenian and I was just so happy! whenever someone mentions armemia, i just feel pride. i don’t know if that’s overstepping or not.

anyways i want to ask armenians here, do i have the right to refer to myself an armenian, what ia the attitude towards people like me wanting to move to armemia and connect with their roots?

please let me know if this is a rude question to ask, i don’t want to offend anyone. i really respect and love this country

edit: thank you all for your advice, i’ve gained many new perspectives! i will continue to learn and change, and i will definitely visit armenia! i’m very excited for that day to come! you made me feel confident in declaring myself as an armenian! i also had few people tell me to not dep others for approval and i will try my best to change that habit!
