Putting together a 2 person beatdown team for CoB

Upvotes

My GF and I just finished CoB for the first time on normal (after having to mulligan the opening scenario four times), and are looking to play on hard next. We were taken aback initially by how many enemies there were, but after upgrading to the lvl 5 cosmic flame on Marie it was manageable.

However, we're looking to put together a team that is maybe OK at clueving but kicks absolute ass otherwise, and try and kill everything.

Current ideas are Tommy and Miguel, but I wanted to ask and see if yall had some other ideas!

Long time Lovecraftian horror fan, first time buyer - some questions/tips needed for a brand new solo player

Post image
Upvotes

TLDR - brand new to the game, haven’t played yet, going to be starting with chapter 2 solo two-handed. Any recommendations on videos, tutorials, playmats for these circumstances?

Long - I’ve been into Lovecraftian horror for quite a while, but have never been into card games. I owned some Highlander TCG and Pokemon cards 25 years ago or so, but never played them. I have over 100 games in my collection on BGG but it’s mostly escape, puzzle, mystery, detective type games.

It seems like I’m getting into AH at the worst time, as the chapter 2 content currently looks like it’s going in a non-Mythos direction. And there seems to be no realistic way to get the chapter 1 content now, other than a lottery win or randomly encountering a yard sale after someone dies. The campaign expansions are impossible, and the older release format of the expansions seem to always have five mythos packs that are reasonably priced on the secondary market and one that is extortionate.

So my plan is to learn the game by playing chapter 2 stuff and stay current with that, and then explore the OOP content via Tabletop Simulator. As a solo player, whats the best way to set myself up for success/enjoyment when starting out? Anything I should be aware of when simultaneously trying to learn the rules while also enjoying the narrative?

Last year I got into Final Girl and enjoy that, which is what got me on the journey to becoming a solo AH player. With FG, I found the play mat helped a lot in terms of not being overwhelmed by everything I need to keep track of. Any recs for a good solo player mat for chapter 2 (or chapter 1 if there’s no difference)?

Also, the old core box is very cheap used, cheaper than the retail price for standalone scenarios. Is it worth getting the old core just to play the included mini campaign? Apparently it’s very similar to the chapter 2 core campaign?

I haven't played in a while, what should I try next?

Upvotes

I had pretty much all the content until scarlet keys.
I didn't love scarlet keys and innsmouth conspiracy.
They just didn't flow as well as Carcossa.
Forgotten Age was ok.
Didn't play edge of the earth.

I wonder what may get me back in the game?

Arkham Horror Achievements Printer Friendly

Thumbnail drive.google.com
Upvotes

For those who like to keep track their achievements, I did and share a printer friendly edition of all the official achievements up until COB. All the text is copied from the official Campaign Guides but I did a little formatting for consistency. I also added some space after the title of the achievement to be able to add the date. I hope you will enjoy them!

Custom Investigator Feedback pt. 9

Upvotes

I'm working on some custom content as a gift for my wife who is a big Stephen King fan, so I'm working on a few custom investigators based on famous characters from King's stories. With Roland Deschain, Danny Torrance, Ben Mears, and Richie Tozier pretty much complete, Next up: Beverly Marsh, the heart and soul of the Losers Club, finishing our investigator team as the Survivor.

Luke Robinson + Sixth Sense + Rod of Carnamagos

Upvotes

Hello fellow investigators

My playgroup has been debating a complex interaction involving Luke Robinson, and we want to get a definitive community consensus on whether this is 100% legal Rules-as-Written. We think it actually works, thanks to a specific ruling in the latest FAQ (v2.5, Feb 2026).

The Setup

Step-by-Step Timing Sequence

  1. Initiation (ST.1)
  • Luke initiates an investigation at Location A using Sixth Sense
  1. The Player Window
  • Before committing cards or closing the window, Luke triggers the fast free-trigger ability of Rod of Carnamagos.
  • Luke draws 5 tokens. Among them, he reveals a symbol (e.g., a Skull).
  • The FAQ 2.5 Carnamagos Ruling: Per the official FAQ v2.5, “the tokens revealed with Rod of Carnamagos this way are revealed ‘during’ the skill test, and can trigger abilities like the ones on Sixth Sense (158)...”
  • Because a symbol was revealed, Sixth Sense effect triggers: Luke may choose to investigate a location connected to Location A instead. He chooses Location B.
  • For the remainder of this investigate test, Luke's "as if" location is now Location B.
  • The Nested "As If" Play: Because Rod of Carnamagos is a ⚡ ability, we are still within the player window. Luke now plays Shortcut from his hand.
  • Luke uses his investigator passive: "You may play one event each turn as if you were at a connecting location and engaged with each enemy at that location."
  • Since the game currently treats Luke's "as if" location as Location B, the connecting location is Location C. Luke plays Shortcut as if he were at Location C.
  • Shortcut Resolution: “Choose an investigator at your location. Move that investigator to a connecting location.”
  • Luke chooses himself (since he is "as if" at Location C) and targets Location D (which is connected to Location C).
  • The Physical Move: Because Shortcut physically moves the chosen investigator, Luke must move his physical mini-card from his actual physical location (Location A) directly to Location D.
  1. Chaos Token Reveal (ST.3)
  • The player window finally closes. Luke proceeds to ST.3 and draws a standard chaos token for the test.
  1. Resolution (ST.7 / ST.8)
  • Luke resolves the test against the shroud of Location B.
  • If he succeeds, he discovers a clue from Location B.
  • The test ends. Luke is now physically standing in Location D with a clue from Location B, having bypassed Locations B and C entirely.

Why We Think This Works (Rules Support)

  1. FAQ v2.5 (Rod of Carnamagos): Confirms that tokens drawn via the Rod during a test count as revealed "during" the test and can trigger Sixth Sense.
  2. "As If" nested rules (FAQ 2.10): “Other card abilities or game effects resolved during this duration are also resolved with the altered game state in mind.” This allows Luke's passive to see Location D as connected to his "as if" Location C.
  3. Movement during tests FAQ: “Once you initiate a skill test or ability, you'll resolve that test or ability as completely as possible, regardless of your location.” Moving mid-test does not cancel it.

I hope I made everything clear 😄

Is there any loophole or timing restriction we missed, or does Luke Robinson actually break the space-time continuum this hard?

Thank you for your expertise!

Question about Card Unlocks/Campaign Rewards

Upvotes

Hello!

I've got a quick question about the cards unlocked during the campaigns.

I'll use Dr. Henry Armitage for example, a cost 3 neutral card that comes into play over the course of the first scenario of the Ch2 Core box campaign.

Is that card now unlocked for ALL future decks or is he specific to that campaign and when I'm finished he goes back into the Scenario 1 card pool for next time?

Thanks!

Rule Question: "as if" and fast windows

Upvotes

For players familiar with Luke Robinson and his "as if" shenanigans, how does it work when you are taking a skill test at another location AND you want to play something (an asset or event) in those fast windows?

I have looked in the skill test timing window, and there are two fast player windows.

So the scenario I envisage - you are Patrice, and you make a skill test on your Sixth Sense

You draw a symbol token when you reveal a chaos token, which allows you to investigate "as if" you are at an adjacent location.

You choose to do so -

At this point, can you play a makeshift trap with the Simple upgrade at that location during this skill test?

What about if I'm Cheesy Jack, and I'm packing a shortcut with my Pocket Telescope. Can I hop two locations when I investigate with my telescope?

And thematically, should I be allowed to?

Question about reoccuring enemy in in new core box Spoiler

Upvotes

Hey there,

spoilers for Brethren of Ash ahead.

We defeated “Servant of Flame” in the first scenario, yet it did appear in the second scenario as well. Nothing asked us whether we “defeated the masked pursuer”. At least I cannot find anything.

Am I missing something or does this enemy just appear in each scenario again?

Greetings and thank you in advance…

Limitation of Traps in Game/ per Location

Upvotes

Hello,

recently I playe Miguel de la Cruz. I had a blast using Lie in Wait and Rope Trap.
Then I realized that the wording on these cards are different.

On Lie in Wait is written: "Limit 1 Trap per Location"
and on Rope Trap one will find the wording "Limit 1 Trap attached."

Does this mean that Rope Trap cannot be played while other Traps of mine are attached at any place (even if I would attach Rope Trap to another place)?

Sincerely,
Tricky-Depth-8568

Event/IRL Anyone in Calgary interested in setting up a weekly game?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to start a weekly session in Calgary. For the sake of ease I'd be starting with the new chapter.

We would do one scenario a week starting from the new core set throwing in a standalone campaign as a penultimate detour to make it work as a monthly campaign (Scenario 1 -> Scenario 2 -> Standalone-> Scenario 3).

I'm debating on locations, but thinking either sentry box or hexagon as they are centrally located (ish).

I will bring the core set/investigator packs/standalone (which we can vote on) plus pens + paper, so you would just need to bring yourself!

I'm looking for three other people ideally, so that if someone can't make it we can still rock a three player Scenario without things changing too much.

Shoot me a message or reply to let me know if you're interested and what dates work.

I'm thinking a 6:00pm or 7:00pm meetup except Saturday/Thursday/Sunday.

Arkham Horror Collection Advice for New Player

Upvotes

Hey Everyone!

I've become a big fan of Fantasy Flights LCGs over the last year, starting with Marvel Champions which I have devoured passionately and managed to collect a lot of the content that interests me thanks to my locale game store having almost all of it in stock.

Sadly no such luck with Arkham Horror.

I've played through the Chapter 2 Core, enjoyed it but found it to be very short and lacking in oppertunities to deck build and replayability.

I seem to have missed the boat on getting Chapter 1 content sadly.

My options are as follows:

  1. Just collect Chapter 2 onwards and hope they return to big campaigns or develop some rules to piece together the new campaigns coming out.

  2. I can secure a copy of the Drowned City, I know its not a very well reviewed piece of content but it may be my only chance of getting a larger campaign based on the rumors I've seen. If I go this route do I need to get a copy of the Chapter 1 Revised Core as well? It seems like it would largely be a waste for the handful of encounter cards I'd be using but I'm willing to pay the $$ if it creates a good lasting experience and maybe Ill get lucky finding an old campaign in the future.

I have a pretty good budget but I obviously its all expensive so I dont want to just throw my money away if Drowned City is trash or not worth it if I need to get the Ch1 Core on top of it.

Basically just looking for some opinions of people invested and have been playing the new and the old content.

I've really enjoyed the Chapter 2 Core but its pretty different from Marvel Champions where you can play against a Boss/Encounter dozens of times and having it play completely differently. My time in the Ch2 Core has been pretty samey so it seems to really need diverse expansions for longevity.

[Children of Blood Spoilers] A Small Rant about 1st Scenario and the "Snare" mechanic Spoiler

Upvotes

Ok so my GF and I decided to go into CoB completely blind, and I gotta say the "snare" mechanic for dealing with Julia has gotta be one of the least intuitive mechanics we've hit yet.

We spent the entire first night getting rid of the additional lairs and setting up snares on Julia, under the assumption that we would then get to wail on her once we chased her out of the lair during the day (or that she wouldn't be allowed to retreat to the lair), but upon advancing the act all the snares fell off and she retreated to the island, along with two bat horrors (we got unlucky there).

Anyways after revealing those cards we just decided to scoop and try again in the morning, but it felt like the game wanted us to place snares on her, but then punished us for doing so. Anyways rant over we're excited to try again in the morning

Trish (Ch. 2) True Solo

Upvotes

With the caveat that I'm new at this game (just finished my fourth run of Brethren of Ash), I just had a disastrous run with Trish in BoA true solo. Terrible luck and few answers when the enemies piled up. I drew Black Chamber Operative in all three scenarios, forcing me to resign all three.

In Spreading Flames, I drew three autofails on evade attempts. While engaged with Servant of Flame Black Chamber Operative was revealed and that was that.

In Smoke and Mirrors, I drew a bat horror and then Black Chamber Operative (which I was fortunate enough to beat with Decisive Strike after a couple turns), but then drew Syndicate Obligations followed by a second bat horror and a whippoorwill. Just entirely overwhelmed.

In Queen of Ash, I drew Black Chamber Operative round 2 and had no answer. Was able to evade once and gave up the clue. Unfortunately, I got caught again and couldn't pass the evasion attempts.

Between not having enough fighting ability and her 4 evade not being consistent enough against Black Chamber Operative and other enemies like Bat Horror, I struggled mightily with Trish.

Anyone have some tips for making her stronger for true solo? Would Andre Patel's pack strengthen my options for dealing with the Operative?

Side Scenario before Children of Blood finale recommendations

Upvotes

My group plans to add a side scenario before the CoB 3rd scenario. What do you recommend adding based on rewards or theme? Options include any fan made or chapter 1 scenario.

Our investigators are Daniela, Isabelle, and Carolyn. We each have 16 xp and are playing solely with chapter 2 cardpool.
