Would you quit advertising if...
.....you had enough money to not work for the foreseeable future? Asking for a friend. Or, is your love so great that you'd never quit?

This is why I quit a nearly two decade long advertising career and went into mining engineering. At least with mining you can see the damage you’re causing with your own eyes.

Yeah one agency I worked for in the past had some very big mining contracts. At least I can say with a level of confidence that the organisation I’m with put a very heavy focus on environmental management.

A lot of us are quitting without enough money to not work for the foreseeable future. In some cases willingly, and in many cases unwillingly.

No because if you made more for let’s say a tech sales job, it would be more challenging in a different way and still have the same micro management and layoff risks

The pay is irregular, and you might make more with a salary job, but walking away from dumpster fires is priceless. Not my circus, not my monkey.
Note to the wise, get a BIG "F' you!" fund of cash before attempting.

I'd actually prefer to do advertising that way. The money is kind of the worst part. I just like helping business connect with their costomers.

I would stay in the game, it’s one of the few careers that merges creativity with strategy and technology, if you don’t love it, and the continual learning required to stay on top, you’re in the wrong field.

If everyone who didn't love it like you had this realization and walked away, there would be nobody to do all the work, and the industry that brings you so much fulfillment would vanish. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I'd guess the majority of the workforce doesn't feel that way.
All the more power to you though, I honestly like your positive outlook on it. The way you sum it up actually makes it seem cool. I felt that way for a few fleeting moments in my career.

If you’re young (under 38), try different things, you can change careers or adapt to find a role that fits you within the industry, for example, sales is part of every industry, including advertising. It does get harder to change as you enter the second half of any career, because one may have to take a financial hit to shift or change their career direction.

I would quit everything if I had enough money for the foreseeable future. I’d pay people to do the things I don’t want to do, and figure out what I actually even like anymore.
