I would prefer if the country's emblem/coat of arms was in the middle of the star circle. But that would probably need explicit support from every country because how exactly an emblem can be displayed is often regulated by law

Have you seen the backside of the passport of some south american passports? Argentina's is an example.

They have a map of south america, and colour the one country that passport is from. I love the design. It's so simple yet beautiful!

I really like that idea! How about just the country letters in the middle, juist like the numberplates on the cars?

Calls for blue passports never end well.

"Does Brexit make my passport expire? No! But it does mean you get entitled to a beautiful new BLOO passport."

No don't make it blue! It'll look like an American passport!

u/Esteban83550 May 09 '26

I like the intricately designed coat of arms that most passports have. I do support the idea of the EU's stars being on our passport, but this image shown here feels too simple, bland, and lazy.

u/Swagiken May 09 '26

To me it feels simple, honest and dignified. Like it deliberately chooses to build a new symbol together.

Looks fucking amazing

u/Esteban83550 May 09 '26

Use burgundy red. It was chosen for a reason

u/GOKOP May 09 '26

And what is the reason?

u/DisIsMyName_NotUrs Slovenija‏‏‎ ‎ May 09 '26

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:41981X0919:EN:HTML

Essentially, it was chosen as a neutral colour to promote unity

1981? Many things have changed since then. And I still miss our green passports

u/Esteban83550 May 09 '26

Yes but there should be no default language. The EU has 24 official languages

u/olddoglearnsnewtrick GALLIA CELTICA May 09 '26

Bland, reeks of bureaucracy. Use cultural heritage!

u/GreekSaladEnjoyer Utrecht‏‏‎ May 09 '26

How does this "reek of bureaucracy"?

u/HCagn Gävleborgs län May 09 '26

Too passport-y!!

u/Esteban83550 May 09 '26

what would you suggest?

u/olddoglearnsnewtrick GALLIA CELTICA May 09 '26

Europe has such a varied, ultrammilllenial, culture and I would strive to have symbols of that prominently. Let me give you a (bad) example: I always loved the original UK cover with the symbol of the order of the garter and the lion and unicorn. Unique and less bland.

But this is only a very personal opinion and I do understand the challenge of finding a symbol that belings to ALL the European people!

Your initiarive/idea I do like a lot though and if given the choice I would ditch my national passport with a Schengen one without hesitation.

u/Esteban83550 May 09 '26

I see but I must say that's not my initiative sadly 😅😂

u/Gjorgdy Overijssel‏‏‎ May 09 '26

Why does a passport needs to have any culture attached to it? They're already very generic.

u/TheMidnightBear România‏‏‎ ‎ May 09 '26

Nah, it doesnt do anything.
