The far right thinks having woke themes in media will turn people gay.

But Americans have been watching courageous people on media for decades and they are still cowards.

"woke" same like "political correctness" are invented by the far right as fighting terms to get people talking about meaningless things, (and have corporations follow on that) to sideline actual problems.

corporations not following pride month were "bad" while those who do not care about workers rights or environment had some nice advertising to make more money

Now the US is turning capitalism into a full oligarchy with a totalitären dictatorship on top and trying to destroy everything on their way that might stand against that (mainly EU) but instead of calling that out, protesting and working against it, it is just important that media is "woke" and "political correct" missing the entire problem (and sometimes rather fight those going against the dictatorship if they are not "woke" instead of working together)

Churchill realised he needed to work with Stalin to win against Hitler despite his dislike of communism, but today the modern fascist found ways to keep the opposition split over buzz words instead of uniting against them

Woke was not invented by the far right, though. It was originally coined by the American black community to signal awareness against systemic racial inequality. Other than that I fully agree with your statement.

u/OneFrenchman France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ Feb 22 '25

Woke started as Black Americans saying "maybe don't act like a dick".

But like a lot of concepts that basically worked around "try to be nicer to people in general", it was turned into an undefined threat by the people who have been mad that black and brown people have rights.

And the fact that it has been imported into Europe shows how much the US far right is fighting us at a global level.

u/kodos_der_henker Österreich‏‏‎ ‎ Feb 22 '25

political correctness also has a different origin but for the same reason both lost their original meaning in the modern context

who thinks about the civil rights act (or black americans) today if someone mentions "woke" but rather about people going crazy because someone having the wrong haircut

Woke, DEI, CRT, black lives matter, it's just a long line of phrases the right misuses to distract people from their real problems.

The best is CRT, or critical race theory, which is a graduate level course in college, an elective, originally to look at laws and law as it pertains to race. How seemingly unbiased laws disadvantage minority communities, etc. And the right heard about it, and started the idea that teachers are teaching CRT to children in grade school. Now, a huge portion of their voter base believe theoretical law is being taught to 2nd graders.

(I mean, they don't, they believe 2nd graders are being taught to hate white people, but they don't know what CRT is, even though they call it that.)

Here in an interview from 2009 (published in written form in 2011) Richard Delgado describes Critical Race Theory's "colonization" of Education:

DELGADO: We didn't set out to colonize, but found a natural affinity in education. In education, race neutrality and color-blindness are the reigning orthodoxy. Teachers believe that they treat their students equally. Of course, the outcome figures show that they do not. If you analyze the content, the ideology, the curriculum, the textbooks, the teaching methods, they are the same. But they operate against the radically different cultural backgrounds of young students. Seeing critical race theory take off in education has been a source of great satisfaction for the two of us. Critical race theory is in some ways livelier in education right now than it is in law, where it is a mature movement that has settled down by comparison.

https://digitalcommons.law.seattleu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1039&context=faculty

I'll also just briefly mention that Gloria Ladson-Billings introduced CRT to education in the mid-1990s (Ladson-Billings 1998 p. 7) and has her work frequently assigned in mandatory classes for educational licensing as well as frequently being invited to lecture, instruct, and workshop from a position of prestige and authority with K-12 educators in many US states.

Ladson-Billings, Gloria. "Just what is critical race theory and what's it doing in a nice field like education?." International journal of qualitative studies in education 11.1 (1998): 7-24.

Critical Race Theory is controversial. While it isn't as bad as calling for segregation, Critical Race Theory calls for explicit discrimination on the basis of race. They call it being "color conscious:"

Critical race theorists (or “crits,” as they are sometimes called) hold that color blindness will allow us to redress only extremely egregious racial harms, ones that everyone would notice and condemn. But if racism is embedded in our thought processes and social structures as deeply as many crits believe, then the “ordinary business” of society—the routines, practices, and institutions that we rely on to effect the world’s work—will keep minorities in subordinate positions. Only aggressive, color-conscious efforts to change the way things are will do much to ameliorate misery.

Delgado and Stefancic 2001 page 22

This is their definition of color blindness:

Color blindness: Belief that one should treat all persons equally, without regard to their race.

Delgado and Stefancic 2001 page 144

Delgado, Richard and Jean Stefancic Critical Race Theory: An Introduction. New York. New York University Press, 2001.

Here is a recording of a Loudoun County school teacher berating a student for not acknowledging the race of two individuals in a photograph:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bHrrZdFRPk

Student: Are you trying to get me to say that there are two different races in this picture?

Teacher (overtalking): Yes I am asking you to say that.

Student: Well at the end of the day wouldn't that just be feeding into the problem of looking at race instead of just acknowledging them as two normal people?

Teacher: No it's not because you can't not look at you can't, you can't look at the people and not acknowledge that there are racial differences right?

Here a (current) school administrator for Needham Schools in Massachusetts writes an editorial entitled simply "No, I Am Not Color Blind,"

Being color blind whitewashes the circumstances of students of color and prevents me from being inquisitive about their lives, culture and story. Color blindness makes white people assume students of color share similar experiences and opportunities in a predominantly white school district and community.

Color blindness is a tool of privilege. It reassures white people that all have access and are treated equally and fairly. Deep inside I know that’s not the case.

https://npssuperintendent.blogspot.com/2020/02/no-i-am-not-color-blind.html

If you're a member of the American Association of School Administrators you can view the article on their website here:

https://my.aasa.org/AASA/Resources/SAMag/2020/Aug20/colGutekanst.aspx

The following public K-12 school districts list being "Not Color Blind but Color Brave" implying their incorporation of the belief that "we need to openly acknowledge that the color of someone’s skin shapes their experiences in the world, and that we can only overcome systemic biases and cultural injustices when we talk honestly about race." as Berlin Borough Schools of New Jersey summarizes it.

Of course there is this one from Detroit:

“We were very intentional about creating a curriculum, infusing materials and embedding critical race theory within our curriculum,” Vitti said at the meeting. “Because students need to understand the truth of history, understand the history of this country, to better understand who they are and about the injustices that have occurred in this country.”

https://komonews.com/news/nation-world/detroit-superintendent-says-district-was-intentional-about-embedding-crt-into-schools

And while it is less difficult to find schools violating the law by advocating racial discrimination, there is some evidence schools have been segregating students according to race, as is taught by Critical Race Theory's advocation of ethnonationalism. The NAACP does report that it has had to advise several districts to stop segregating students by race:

While Young was uncertain how common or rare it is, she said the NAACP LDF has worked with schools that attempted to assign students to classes based on race to educate them about the laws. Some were majority Black schools clustering White students.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/18/us/atlanta-school-black-students-separate/index.html

There is also this controversial new plan in Evanston IL which offers classes segregated by race:

https://www.wfla.com/news/illinois-high-school-offers-classes-separated-by-race/

Racial separatism is part of CRT. Here it is in a list of "themes" Delgado and Stefancic (1993) chose to define Critical Race Theory:

To be included in the Bibliography, a work needed to address one or more themes we deemed to fall within Critical Race thought. These themes, along with the numbering scheme we have employed, follow:

...

8 Cultural nationalism/separatism. An emerging strain within CRT holds that people of color can best promote their interest through separation from the American mainstream. Some believe that preserving diversity and separateness will benefit all, not just groups of color. We include here, as well, articles encouraging black nationalism, power, or insurrection. (Theme number 8).

You had that one in the chamber. A file on your desktop no doubt. The point is that they don't teach that to kids. And the right, or I guess maybe centrists too? Misuse, misrepresent, and repurpose phrases and words to scare up their base, or to fan the flames of the culture war.

u/ShivasRightFoot Uncultured Feb 22 '25

The point is that they don't teach that to kids.

There is a recording of a teacher forcing CRT's rejection of color blindness onto a student linked above.

u/shrimp-and-potatoes Uncultured Feb 22 '25

Yes, A teacher. One teacher. It's not in the curriculum in grade school, anywhere in the US. In rural north Carolina they aren't teaching critical race theory. There will always be a handful of outliers that you can point to, but the overall picture doesn't support your claim.

That's like me saying all teachers are racist, and me posting a video of one teacher saying the n word.

Or me saying all centrists are Nazis, and me posting a link to one centrist licking boots.

That's not how it works.

u/ShivasRightFoot Uncultured Feb 22 '25

Yes, A teacher. One teacher. It's not in the curriculum in grade school, anywhere in the US.

There are five public K-12 school districts with policies that reject color blindness on webpages linked in the comment. Two of those districts, the Minneapolis and Denver school districts, represent major US cities.

u/shrimp-and-potatoes Uncultured Feb 22 '25

Are they teaching CRT though? I think you're mixing up an idea forwarded by CRT with actual CRT.

"Courageous"

Superheroes usually only defend the status quo, not positive change. So not quite as courageous.

I've been hearing this from Ukrainians for years now, that they can't watch American action films anymore. When it portrays courageous military people / superheroes, the suspension of disbelief goes off immediately, knowing what real America do.

u/BoloRoll Feb 22 '25

Why have Ukrainians criticized us for years if we have just now cut the funding?

u/Divniy Feb 22 '25

Russia attacked Ukraine in 2014, occupying Crimea, starting war in Donetsk/Luhansk (and trying to do the same in Odesa, Zaporizhya, Kharkiv...) - Obama flat out ignored it. Ukraine wasn't even able to BUY any Western weapons. And that limit was there up '22 full-scale invasion.

Biden seen russia gathering forces to attack Ukraine all the way throgh '21, sending US military to Ukraine would flat out deter the invasion. Instead, all the collective West have planned for a quick Ukraine's downfall and maybe some partisan movements, so NLAWs and Javelins were sent.

Biden have intentionally delayed sending more aid in late '22 (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson operations were huge successes through the year, and we could've continue to the south if we received help), so Ukraine wouldn't wipe russian forces. The goal was always "not to let Ukraine lose" but also "not to let Russia fall" - they are afraid of possible consequences, listening "advisors" from Valdai club (yeah, russians).

First tanks in late '23 (gave russia more than a year to build fortifications), few dozens of shorter-range ATACMS at end '23 and with the limits to hit within Ukraine only, and only after half a year of insane pressure - to hit russian military targets within russia, but only for a short distance (not to hit anything actually useful).

Overall, Biden had all the tools to let Ukraine decisively win. He didn't. It backfired, and was made into one of the talking points to make him lose the elections. Obviously Trump is uncomparably worse, but if it isn't a direct consequence of someone's inaction.

Americans think they are the eagles in LotR but in reality they show me they're just sheeps in eagle costume.

u/OneFrenchman France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ Feb 22 '25

And it's also internal.

Nobody is even trying to stop Trump from gutting federal agencies, including the FBI.

They're saying "you have to choose your battles", but they're not even picking up the guns.

They are still saying the Titanic is unsinkable.

u/fuer_den_Kaiser Yuropean not by passport but by state of mind Feb 22 '25

All that 2nd Amendment bullshits get thrown out of window. No matter how many fangs or claws you give to the sheeps, in the end sheeps are just sheeps. What a pathetic end of a once beacon of democracy.

u/Dicethrower Netherlands Feb 22 '25

Aldo, since Trump you can't do movies involving the president anymore. It has lost all prestige. No hero would waste their time on him.
