We need an independent EU human space flight program

u/Rooilia Apr 26 '24

You will only get it in french. They have to loose a war to adjust their pov towards europe. Maybe West Africa cones in handy. Otherwise i don't see a change in french attitude towards other nations in the EU. Like in the past, nations without colonies developed way faster, with the exception of England, who just owned most rich landstripes in the timeframe.

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Hmm? Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Denmark and France all had big empires and all are very wealthy. Only countries that had empires and are not quite as wealthy are Portugal, Spain and Italy.

u/Surymy Apr 27 '24

Yes, the famous Italian empire consisting of 14 years in Ethiopia

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Libya too.

u/Rooilia May 07 '24

And without big empires, they got even richer than before quicker...

u/BS-Calrissian Apr 26 '24

Careful now, don't tell the Brits about space

BREXIT

MEANS

BREXIT

u/EenGeheimAccount Groningen‏‏‎ Apr 29 '24

Brexit from earth, Britain into space!

u/bluejeansseltzer ENGERLAND ENGERLAND ENGERLAND Apr 26 '24

I wouldn’t worry about it. If we can’t build houses, we’re not gonna not colonise the stars.

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

Why? Is there tea there? What kind is it??

u/BS-Calrissian Apr 27 '24

It's all black, with a drop of lemon

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Gravity keeps them earthbound, just like baron Harkonnen.

u/The_Astrobiologist Yuropean not by passport but by state of mind Apr 26 '24

It's honestly kinda crazy how many people don't realize France still has its boot on the neck of a bunch of west African countries still in one way or another

u/Abel_V Apr 26 '24

It's the other way around. All over the Internet you see people talking about French "neo-colonialism" . But this discourse is wildly exaggerated and has been enhanced by Russian disinformation campaigns. The reality is a lot tamer, but that doesn't give YouTubers as many clicks.

u/Hodoss France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ Apr 28 '24

Ah yes, let Russia and China take over Africa, surely that will be better.

u/snillhundz Yuropean‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 28 '24

That's not what I said at all.

Lots of West African people feel exploited by France. So they look to alternatives like Russia and China.

We should treat them like we do fellow European nations, and offer up good trade deals and cooperation projects based on if they meet a certain democratic index.

u/Hodoss France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ Apr 28 '24

You should be aware though, this subject is distorted by Russian propaganda. The goal isn't fair treatment of African nations, they just want to take over.

And judging by how Russia has been treating other countries, this will be way worse.

u/oceangreen25 Jun 24 '24

Wait until you hear about the Chinese. They are basically doing the same thing we used to do back in the day.

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

The moon and mars don't have residents to be enslaved though....(we think)

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Yes we will be enslaved soon enough when they destroy the economic model of humans selling things to other humans and can do it all without us....

u/Yanowic Hrvatska‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 27 '24

Ship the brits there first, then.

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Only after the Spanish, Portuguese, Germans, Belgians and Austrians....

u/kundibert Apr 26 '24

Venus! Europe sang: "we're heading to Venus!"

u/RealAbd121 Apr 26 '24

I'd settle if everyone settled their colonial present! (pun intended)

We will colonize it and then recolonize it to oppress the natives. What’s so hard to understand Sherlock?

u/FilipTheCzechGopnik Česko‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 26 '24

I feel like the only reason why you people are saying that is because those places are confirmed to be uninhabited.

Honestly, even if there were any extraterrestrials up there, why should we care about their well-being, let alone what they think? 'Humanity first' is a phrase that no bleeding-heart pacifist should object to.

u/Ataulv Россия‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 26 '24

Speciest bigot detected. Why is Central Europe always the most far-right like this? Just because you suffered under the communist yoke doesn't give you right to discriminate against our fellow Aldebaran psionic wormnet and the Hollow Moon neogi megatongue.

u/FilipTheCzechGopnik Česko‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 26 '24

I'm struggling to tell if this is a shitpost or not, either way, It'll be a pleasure looking upon our descendants as they clear out entire hives of giant insects to make room for colonists, satirical propaganda shouldn't discourage us one bit.

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

I agree with you. The first thing I would want to do to extraterrestrials is put them in my science research lab.

u/Lost_Uniriser France‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ May 01 '24

Research lab ....huh ??? Nah I would try to eat them first...

u/Less-Researcher184 Éire‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 27 '24

An entire continent where no one has done any mining, but na we will do a good chunk of our mining in forests.

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Well, just as long as there aren't any Martians

u/Anzi0_shiniga Bourgogne-Franche-Comté‏‏‎‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 27 '24

Still better than brits

u/Grzechoooo Polska‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 26 '24

You're French, you should know your country is already actively engaging in neo-colonialism and it doesn't need any other planets for that.

u/I_eat_dead_folks Yuropean‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 27 '24

Highly unpopular opinion: I think they should keep on. The alternative is that Ruzzia has a lot of puppets throughout the Sahel, destabilising the Southern front for us.

u/Goblinofthesoup Ελλάδα‏‏‎ ‎ Apr 26 '24

Fix the problems we got here first dumbass mars ain't going anywhere but our rights might be going down the shitter so focus on what's important
