Discussion Today was the day I realized it's all on me

Medical emergency with my mom and my brother was less than useless. Helping my parents today made me realize that as they age I am all on my own and it's a heavy feeling.

Do you guys drink water?

Upvotes

I grew up with a mom who didn't buy soda or sugary drinks, and all I drank was water. I *prefer* it to other drinks. When I first got married it was wild to me that my husband would say there was nothing to drink in the house if we were out of soda, but he changed over soon after that. I still drink only water (lots of it), but I've noticed that most of my peers in our generation don't. Many say they *don't like water*, and if they do drink it, it's got flavoring in it, or they're forcing it. My son's (24) generation constantly drinks plain water. His friends have water bottles on them at all times, and don't want other drinks except maybe with meals. I feel like I can see it in someone's face immediately when they aren't drinking enough water, and we need it more than ever at our age! So what's up with our gen? Why the aversion to water? Do you drink water? Do you like water?

Discussion I’m really tired. Tell me I am not alone in that.

Upvotes

I am an Xennial to the absolute. A caboose kid by 10 years, both grandfathers in WW2.

I’m really tired. Nothing really clever. Just need a little validation by the others as we go through another season change.

Hope you are well if you are reading this.

My kids all chose Jansport backpacks for school

Post image
Upvotes

My daughters and son (14, 12 and 8) all chose Jansport packs this year for school on their own. My 12 year old wanted one because they’re on trend and my 14 and 8 year old wanted them after we went on the Jansport site.

I’ve collected Jansport packs over the years and shown them, but they were never interested before. Now my kids love them and they’re talking about kids at their elementary school, middle and high schools wearing them.

I love Jansport and will always have a soft spot for the brand since I had a pack when I was a kid. It’s cool to see them taking off again!

Discussion Do you still have close friends from school?

Upvotes

So I was sitting here watching Grown Ups (guilty pleasure) and I got to thinking. It would be awesome to have friends that go that far back. Do any of you have a close group of friends that go way back or is that just some movie stuff?

Discussion Ghosting - is that a thing we do now?

Upvotes

So I’m aware that there’s a strong possibility that I’m the abnormal one here. Thought I’d get an honest take from the Xennial crew.

Short story: Lawn mowing guy is my age and is ghosting me. I was surprised because I didn’t expect that from our generation, I thought it was a Millenial and Gen Z thing.

Longer story:
There’s a guy that’s been mowing my (43m) lawn for the past several months, and so far, so good. He’s done a great job and I pay him promptly when he mows. I know he’s a Xennial too, because he and my wife (43f) went to the same school and were in the same graduating class.

A few weeks ago he sent me a message saying his mower broke and he’s waiting a few days for parts and if I had a backup option for mowing that would be good.

After that - nothing. No response to texts or Facebook contact, just silence for two weeks now. Pretty sure he’s ghosting me. Maybe I deserve it somehow, but can’t even find out why.

Hence the question - is ghosting a normal thing for Xennials? I didn’t think so up till now. I know it’s increasingly common with Millenials and Gen Z, but I was always taught that you should tell someone that you’re done talking with them.

What do y’all think?

Edit: A couple comments pointed out I was inconsistent with timeline. You’re right. The message from the guy was more than two weeks ago. Edited to fix the inaccuracy.

Upvotes

One of those things you know will happen, in the future, then one day you wake up, blamo, that'll be some long sightedness on top of your short sighted Ness... Now the decision reading glasses or varifocals? And will I get one of those neck strings so I can switch pairs?

Isn't that decision for old people...

Xennial men: Anyone get a vasectomy yet?

Upvotes

I’m wondering what your experience might have been with it.

I really can’t imagine wanting more kids—I’m so happy with mine and also remembering how exhausting the baby/toddler years were.

My health insurance reached the out of pocket maximum for the year, so I’m thinking up everything I can, because I’m not getting charged for prescriptions or office visits right now!
