I was rear ended by a guy who showed multiple signs of being intoxicated. I called the police and gave them a heads up. His car was disabled so he was sitting there. Unfortunately no cops were able to respond so he got away with it. The officer who followed up via phone later that night said there were higher priority calls and aside from offering his sympathy there wasn’t anything they could do.

Just last month I bought my partner a bike so she could ride with me before the weather gets too cold. Her garage was unfortunately broken into and hers plus her parents’ have been stolen, and we never got to bike together.

If anyone spots this 1976 Raleigh out and about, please let me know. It’s got an old dynamo light on it too.

The St. Boniface Museum is getting some additional funding as work to restore one of Winnipeg's oldest buildings continues.

The federal government announced $400,000 in supports during an event Monday celebrating 175 years since the building — a former Grey Nuns convent and mission house — was completed.

A religious blessing was among the ceremonies held at the museum's main building on Taché Avenue, on the same date as nuns blessed the convent in 1851.

The building has been closed to the public since 2024 to allow for major renovations. The families of people who founded the museum in 1967 said Monday they hope the restoration allows future generations to enjoy an important part of Manitoba's Francophone heritage.

As children, "we used to come here on our bikes … roam around until someone chased us out," said Dennis St. Hilaire, whose father, Joseph, was one of the museum's founding members.

His great-aunt served as superior in the convent.

"It's smaller than I remember, but the historical value is really touching," St. Hilaire said. "It's just something that no other area has that we have … and for kids, new generations to come and see that we have a history that's unique and strong."

The federal government said the funding will allow the museum to expand its cultural programming by hosting exhibitions, and make the building more accessible.

Before Monday, Ottawa had already committed nearly $2 million for the project, with hopes it would reopen ahead of the 175th anniversary.

"We discover sometimes issues along the way," said St. Boniface—St. Vital MP Ginette Lavack, who announced the additional funding on behalf of the heritage ministry.

"Projects such as these require the resources they need. And so the community will continue to work together to make that happen."

The museum has been running a gift shop and Louis Riel-related exhibit inside the old St. Boniface City Hall at 219 Provencher Blvd. since the Taché Ave. building closed in 2024.

Cindy Desrochers, executive director of the museum, said the institution has 12 months' worth programming to commemorate the 175th anniversary.

"There will be something for everybody," she said. "And once we are fully completed with all of our exhibit installations, we will have a larger party in the summer time of 2027."

The $400,000 will be disbursed over the next two years, the federal government said in a news release.

I feel as though I'm going crazy but I've been noticing that security guards in Winnipeg have been more uptight in the stores I've been shopping at.

A couple of years ago, most security guards would smile and welcome me when I entered a store but now a days I get shot mean looks. Sometimes I feel as though they follow, or periodically check on me when I'm shopping. It's become a bit annoying, and honestly has made me a bit upset when I think about it.

I try to make myself look presentable and as friendly as possible when I go to these shops. I would like to think that I don't look like someone who would steal, but whenever this happens it lowers my self-esteem and makes me question my looks.

I also begin to question if it's because I'm a person of colour, which is odd since most of the security guards I see are people of colour.

Am I going crazy or have any of you felt this way?

My car was broken into last night while parked in the Exchange District. They smashed the front passenger window and stole my Sony A7 IV, Fujifilm X-T30, some camera gear, and my wallet.

I’ve already filed a police report and contacted the parking lot about possible CCTV footage.

Just putting this out there in case anyone sees a Sony A7 IV or Fujifilm X-T30 being sold around Winnipeg, especially for a suspiciously low price. If you happen to see anything on Marketplace, a pawn shop, or elsewhere, please send me a screenshot or message.

I have identifying information for the cameras if anything turns up.

If anyone has dealt with stolen camera gear in Winnipeg before and knows other places I should keep an eye on, I’d really appreciate any advice.

Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with an investigation into a suspected arson of a home last Saturday.

WPS said that its officers responded to a 911 call reporting a fire shortly before 7:30 p.m. in a home in a multi-suite residential building located in the 300 block of College Avenue.

No one was injured in the fire.

“Officers learned upon arrival that the suspect in the matter was a tenant who after setting the fire, retreated to his suite and refused to comply with police,” WPS said.

James Andrew Laferriere was later arrested and taken into custody. He faces four charges of arson.

The allegations have yet to be proven in court.

Someone in my building has a gnat issue, and to be proactive, they are bringing in exterminators to treat every unit. We have to be out from 9-5. Is there a decent by the day place I can bring my cat on Friday?

Any recommendations for a local pest control company that won’t charge an arm and a leg to humanely trap and remove a skunk that seems to have taken up residence in a void under my front step? Ideally I’d like the void filled as well. Not sure what’s best, maybe with some type of spray foam?

Winnipeg Transit’s fall schedule took effect Sunday, bringing route changes, stop additions and schedule improvements.

The city says many changes this year are aimed at improving reliability and responding to rider feedback.

Non-seasonal route changes include:

• Routes 678: Waverley West-Chancellor and 679: Waverley will have new terminals on University Crescent. They will also travel through Waverley West to help reduce demand on the Blue Line.
• Route FX4: Gateway-Portage will have a new terminal at the Polo Park Main Terminal for easier transfers.
• Route 48: Transcona Blvd-McMeans will be extended between Kildonan Place Mall and Walmart, providing improved service in the area.
• Route 649: Chevrier will be extended to improve service for residents of Whyte Ridge.
• To simplify service, Route D:18 Notre Dame will operate on Arlington Street in both directions. The southern boundary of On-request Zone 106: North East will be extended from Edison Avenue to Kimberly. This will improve service in the evenings and on weekends.
• Route 650: McGillivray will be shortened to better align service with current ridership demand.

Additional bus stops have also been added along the FX2 route on Main Street to make transfers easier and ensure access to controlled pedestrian crossings, while the Blue route will gain additional stops on west Portage Avenue.

Riders are encouraged to use Navigo or another transit trip planner for up-to-date schedule and routing information.
