My cat plays a similar game where she pushes a ball, hair tie, qtip, etc under a door and then tries to fish it back out.

Two of my cats will play like this with each other under either side of an open door until it gets crazy enough that the door slams closed and I have to go rescue one of them from the prison he made for himself.
