I don’t know what happen but the misogynists especially from India took over that sub

u/Any-Junket-3828 5h ago

Is that what happened? I left for a bit and came back and it was dripping with misogyny and racism. Had to mute it just today.

u/LongHair1917 5h ago

I was wondering what happened! I took a year off Reddit and came back to a completely unrecognizable sub. I made the mistake of commenting in there.

u/Ok_Degree4131 4h ago edited 2h ago

Yeah I watched it mutate over time and left a while ago. It used to just be random interesting stuff, then they started adding thirst traps, and then it was all this whiney BS victimizing men and villainizing women, and then I had to bail. Last I saw it on my feed it was something depraved about the live action snow white actress

u/NoxTempus 2h ago

Unironically billionaires and foreign countries running psyops.

Remember kids: no war but the class war.

u/Commercial_Fox5549 4h ago

A lot of Reddit has become overrun by toxic idiots. I was in r/tvshow today and a whole pile of people were defending racism.

u/IdealBeginning2704 4h ago

Man, it frigging sucks. It’s incredible the amount of toxicity on this kinda shit and like discord and so forth. It’s why I really take no part in a lot of fandoms anymore either and am im very very few discord chats. It’s all Just misery, entitlement and toxicity. People complaining and bitching about anything and absolutely everything. It’s like “hello…..this is a Godzilla discord folks lol 😂 ”. The Retro gaming scene is really similar too. It kinda sucks because I’d love to enjoy it with other folks and I do to a point but like 80% of folks are absolutey misery entitled

u/pay_student_loan 3h ago

A good portion of commenters are bots with goals to normalize antisocial behavior to promote destabilization and polarization.

But there is still a good portion that are real people and well… it sucks.

u/i_tyrant 2h ago

Until we invent a platform that's immune to bots and/or bigoted morons, I'm afraid the suckage will stay.

We used to have that - the platform was called "talking in person" and the advantages were a lack of anonymity and the chance you'd get punched in the mouth for spouting bigoted bullshit, or at best ostracized and shamed by all the sane people.

But the internet means anonymity for everyone and this is the double-edged sword of that - idiots getting to say whatever they want and feel validated while rich a-holes send an army of bots to compete with them for dumbest, craziest comments.

u/Tauisawesome12 3h ago

Which show were they racist about?

u/SwordOfJiang 23m ago

X-Files reboot

It appears that everyone in the thread is dumb as shit, including the above poster on his crusade to scold internet racists

u/KilledByDoritos 2m ago

Scolding internet racists is commendable behavior.

u/OppositeNail3610 4h ago

This is funny and pretty ironic your statement. Stating it’s become overrun with toxic idiots. I’d say it’s always been that way and now maybe you’re just seeing a bit less of extreme left shit.

u/QCTID 5h ago

Midterms coming up, they’ve been a little bit of everywhere the last month or two.

u/soulsnoober 5h ago

I want to mute more subs, do you have a way to go past 100 ?

u/redheeler9478 5h ago

I agree I like muting subs too

u/Cruxis87 3h ago

I've never hit a limit. I think I use the RES one, where I just over over the sub name for the little tooltip to popup then click filter. I have hundreds filtered. Probably over 200 anime ones, 300 indian ones, close to 100 sports ones, then some other random ones.

u/aweSAM19 3h ago edited 1h ago

How did you figure this out? I have 3 comments from the last year on that subreddit, and my insights show no data from India.

Edit: This person is just coping with the clear cultural shift among men by blaming Indians. I suggest they review surveys and statistics from whatever Western country they live in.

u/SteeveyPete 2h ago

Yeah, I'm quite skeptical about this. It really feels like trying to to downplay sexism in western countries by using the popular racist stereotypes of the day.

In my experience, usually when I see someone being sexist, they're usually also racist, and tend not to have positive opinions on Indian people either

u/rixuraxu 1h ago

There has been a massive increase in Indian users in the last year or so.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1lq5zm4/what_is_up_with_the_increase_of_indian_subreddits/

If you browse through /r/all like I do you regularly see them, just now I wanted to check, and 3 popped up /r/ZyadaKuchNai /r/IndiaMemes /r/Fitness_India

Those were all innocuous enough, but I have seen plenty of times one subreddit, I think it may have been like mens rights india or something like that, and it was entirely just misogyny. Every single post was just about hating women.

That isn't to say there isn't western misogyny, of course there is, but there is definitely truth to a sudden influx of new misogynists to reddit too.

u/Jraksys_Magnanimous 5h ago

People from India and Nigeria took over most subs.

Bobs and vagne?

u/Pretend-Marsupial258 4h ago

Boobs and vagina.

u/KiloJools 4h ago

I am pretty sure it's not a lack of access to someone else's body that causes that.

u/QCTID 5h ago

Plenty of Russian and American bots and sock puppets in the mix tbf.

u/Jraksys_Magnanimous 5h ago

A bunch of dumb ass kids from tik tok too with their absolute low-effort posts that didn't do well on tik tok so they post shite here. Reddit used to be the wild west. Now it's moderated by all kinds of power tripping egos.

u/SteeveyPete 2h ago

It's actually racism. You guys got a good leg up using the slave trade, and it looks like you're still committed to your roots!

u/BehalarRotno 4h ago

The current wave of misogyny from India is led by the BJP IT Cell.

The younger crop of well-off, anglophone kids are very progressive and that has been seen as desirable on social media. This seriously threatens their voteshare as India is a very young country. So they're trying very hard to forment gender based discontent, and trying to create a generation of regressive, victimised, perpetually raging conservative men whose votes they can bank upon.

u/AnaisNinja76 2h ago

I mean, it worked pretty well in the US etc. I could see it working exceptionally well there.

u/Prestigious-Emu-8734 5h ago

Its what happens. A reddit sub that uses about a niche topic gets popular and its get flooded by Nazis and repost bots. I cant count how many subs have died out because everyone else just left. But that also means the bots need to move to the next new popular sub.

u/Enlightened_Gardener 5h ago

One of my favourite subs is /r/2westerneurope4u, which is basically a sub for Euros to be rude to each other.

Every now and then a genuine racist tries to enter the chat, and gets eaten alive by euros who’ve been practicing their witty banter on each other for millennia.

Mostly its taking the piss out of the British for being fat and drinking too much beer, but there’s also taking the piss out of the Germans for being fat and drinking too much beer, and also the Dutch, for being fat and drinking too much beer.

Its also quite fun watching the old battle lines redrawn over the really important stuff, like football; where the South unites against the North and everyone starts polishing their armor and sharpening their spears, and dark mutterings are heard about Teutoburg…

u/RobotPolarbear 5h ago

I was wondering what happened!

u/rvralph803 5h ago

In fairness, they do sip a lot of tea there.

u/frubano21 5h ago

You mean the bots

u/s_peeta 3h ago

lol...there are less than 100 people in that country that know about /r/sipstea yet that doesn't stop people like throwing that accusation. Such a rotten person...lol

Half of the misogynistic posts in that sub are from people active in "twenties India" or "Bollywood memes" but sure, definitely not Indian.

u/AnaisNinja76 2h ago

It's not just those subs either. Additionally, there's a wild increase in AI generated posts, often speaking flat-out gibberish, word salad, or illogical, or incoherent speech. Like they're augmenting what they want to say with bizarre scripted responses from bots. They're very hostile from the jump. You don't even have to do anything, they'll tear into you.

u/UltimaDv 1h ago

Oh is that why like 5 different tea subs hit the front page now

u/c-dy 1h ago

Took over? lmao

That sub was created with sexist purpose.

On the contrary, over the past 2-4 years or so a lot (very) left-leaning users joined, which misled many people into thinking this sub represented progressive views.

But in the past few months sexist threads have started to dominate that sub again.

u/BehalarRotno 4h ago
