That said, my mamma always taught me to never hit a woman under any circumstance, ever, and I never have. That doesn't mean I won't defend myself and push someone away who is out to harm me.

What rejection? What verbal assault? You could hear what they were saying? I only saw the video and a headline. You could tell exactly what actually happened from just that?

He went to drink HIS drink, she grabbed it, he threw the liquid at her (not the glass), and she lunged at him. She kept coming at him. He overreacted. She over reacted and didn't retreat.

They're both idiots, and idiots fight. None of that deserves a life sentence. If you think it does, then there's something wrong with this country.

Just once I'd like to have a situation that isn't a moral quandary and no one tries to turn it into one. "There's more than one way of seeing things!". Yeah! Plenty of times! I didn't catch it at first, but literally, if someone takes something that doesn't belong to them, gut reaction is to try to take it back. After he splashed her, she lunged at him. Splashing someone with a drink might technically be assault (though almost never results in any arrest or convictions), she physically escalated. He inappropriately escalated after that, but she started the aggressive physical contact.

I'm not excusing either of their behavior, I'm just saying it's not a clear case of 'lock him up for life' like all the armchair judges out there are clamoring for.

Seriously, watch again. He goes to drink HIS drink. She grabs it. He splashes her with the drink (not the glass), and she lunges at him. He pushes her off him. She falls and is about to get back up, so he kicks her down. He's about the leave / retreat, and she comes at him grabs a bottle off the table to wield as a weapon.

He absolutely should never physically assault a woman, ever. However, in a court, she's not entirely innocent here, and there is potentially an element of self-defense.

Again, I'm not excusing any of this, but to me, it's more a case of two idiots being idiots rather than a crime where one gets locked away for life, as the Reddit lynch mob seems to want.

And note that we have no evidence that his was because of 'rejection' other than the potentially misleading Reddit headline when injects some extreme bias.

There's no clear audio. He was just drinking his drink when she grabbed it. Technically, that makes her the initial aggressor, but you're free to disagree.

He may deserve that as punishment, but in reality he doesn't stand a prayer of his anger management, total lack of impulse control problem helped by being imprisoned. I'm guessing he already has a string of assault charges if that's how he acts, so maybe he needs to be away for a while. But in the end if he isn't forced to take a lot of course... a lot... followed by parole or probation, he will just be worse and society will still have to deal with his out of control behavior. If the threat of prison worked to "give someone something to think about" in any way that's a real deterrent, we'd live in one of the least violent societies on earth. Most incarcerated people lack the ability to weigh consequences verse reward properly. People who act this way tend to have frontal lobe problems affecting their impulse control. It's not an excuse, I'm just saying if he isn't forced to do programs and be monitored on the outside, he'll just get worse.

That's not exactly what I meant, but it was pointed out to me, and I've since concluded, that she's not entirely innocent here being the primary first physical aggressor (with the shoving after being splashed with liquid), did the further approaching and picking up a weapon (the bottle) when she could have easily retreated.

Men should never physically attack a women, ever. But I think this is the case of two idiots being two idiots and not exactly a 'lock away for life' case. Watch a couple times more and maybe you'll agree.

I am curious about why she grabbed the drink but even if her grabbing the drink when he had no intention of throwing it on her was the begining of the incident going south everything he did was vile and grossly disproportionate to any version of, "she started it."

No sane and good faith charitable interpretation of the events in his favor can diminish or absolve his despicable behavior to something where there is anything other than one belligerent here.

He deserves felony charges for this behavior.

Also, I don't presume to know who actually had any possession of the drink. Those could have been drinks she paid for and were hers. He could have been trying to take one of her drinks without permission.
