They should at least have to present a realistic cause for the fear in court. This is bull. Well if it was a bull I could maybe understand a bit.
I honestly think if you’re so afraid of a freaking miniature donkey that it drives you to use lethal force I would say that phobia is so extreme you can’t even be trusted to be a safe member of society.

My SIL is a retired cop. On virtually any subject she is normal and rational. The second you start talking about anything related to policing that thin blue mind brain slug comes out and starts talking for her.
Not likely. All cops are cowards. That’s why they are so quick to jump straight to deadly force. What this guy did is nothing new and I’m sure he feels the same way about it all cops do: completely justified.
And if there is anything worse or more dangerous than a scared cop, it’s a scared cop who resents his community for mocking him. If this guy stays on the force he’s likely to be a terror to everyone who comes across him.
A local deputy shot my friend's dog with a shotgun. Now, in all fairness, the dog was an American Bully, so it was an intimidating dog. However, he shot the dog through a closed window. The dog was shut inside, and the cop went to his car, got a shotgun, and killed the dog through a closed window in "self defense".
For real. If a miniature donkey coming towards you 1. scares you, 2. you decide to use lethal force against it—you do not have the mental capacity to be a cop or even own a firearm. Cops are such bloodthirsty pussies.

Plus, it's an area with plenty of farmers and farmland. You'd think they'd have some idea of what to do around farm animals. And if they don't then they should stay out of the enclosures and pastures of the animals.
If an adult donkey ran towards me I'd probably take a couple broken ribs before murdering such a gentle animal. Shooting the ground or towards the sky were also options and those would have scared the donkey away without killing him.

They also went into the property without permission. They could easily have asked that any animals be put away, who goes into a pasture and then is terrified and surprised when there's an animal?
They're just lucky it happened to be a miniature petting zoo donkey, otherwise the police would likely get away with saying it was a threat
Something I don't see many people pointing out is that the entire reason they were out in the first place was because they were trying to locate a small child. So when something small came running up to them...they shot it
I guess they were looking for someone or doing a welfare check or some shit, but its small ass donkey bro. Cops are the biggest pussies on the planet. Scared of small animals, acorns, any movement, people being nervous that they just got pulled over by an armed gang, any person of color, any person with memtal health issues, etc...the list goes on and on

American cops. I'm a retired UK officer and even in the suburbs of London we'd regularly deal with or encounter farm animals, dogs, etc. You either removed yourself from the situation if you felt unsafe or enjoyed petting them.
A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch in Texas and talked to an old rancher. He told the rancher, “I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.” The rancher said, “okay, but don’t go into that field over there…”, as he pointed out the location. Several years ago in Utah, a cop went into a back yard without a warrant or permission while looking for a lost child, and shot and killed a dog in the yard. Absolutely nothing happened to him. As I recall, the most the owner could sue for was the monetary value of the dog.
Sadly it won't be the cop that is getting sued because of that stupid qualified immunity it will be the local taxpayers that have to pay for this lawsuit
Here's the thing, though...when they sue, and I hope they do and I hope they win, the tax payers are the one footing that bill. Nothing of monetary significance happens to the cop. I can't find nationwide data but in 2025 the city of Chicago paid out $258.96 million in police misconduct cases.
Designate a policeman's pension as the first to be garnished and I bet you see those misconduct numbers drop real quick.

This shit happens all the time, it just usually doesn't get reported. A local deputy killed my friend's dog with a shotgun through a CLOSED CAR WINDOW, in "self defense". As in, the dog was locked inside, the officer and my friend were outside the car, and the cop when to the police car, got his shotgun, and killed the dog through a car window, all in self defense. It was just a traffic stop too. Not like a swat raid
And that’s what law enforcement has become in the US. And the fact that there are people trying to cover it up and say it wasn’t a big deal.

Thankfully they've shown his face and name so that he can be named and shamed for murdering a mini baby donkey.
That body cam footage absolutely needs to be shown to the owner. The only reason why it wouldn't been shown immediately, would be because the officer had no reason to shoot HeeHaw and the police know that if that footage got shown to them, then that would prove that HeeHaw was murdered in cold blood for no reason.
