"Indispensable nation."

That phrase was popularised by Madeleine Albright in 1998.

The same Madeleine Albright who, when asked about the half a million Iraqi children who died as a result of sanctions, said the price was worth it.

Worth it.

Five hundred thousand children.

Worth it.

This is not a secret. It was said on television. It was not a misquote. It was not a gaffe. It was the moral logic invoked in public by the woman who, less than a year later, would become Secretary of State of the indispensable nation.

The indispensable nation is the one that decides whose children's deaths are worth it and whose are tragedies.

That is what the word means.

That is what it has always meant.

The manufactured meltdown over Rula Jebreal's "AIPAC monkey" gaffe is a cynical psy-op designed to bury the grassroots rebellion against one of the Israel lobby's most critical assets.

Grassroots Democrats are in open revolt against Israel, AIPAC and the Gaza genocide, and there is no one more poised to stomp on their faces than Hakeem Jeffries. As the recipient of over $1.4 million in Israel lobby donations, he's one of AIPAC's most important investments. Under no circumstances can he afford to defy the all-White cast of Jewish supremacist millionaires and billionaires who fueled his rise.

Jeffries is so thoroughly controlled by Zionist forces that he once paid tribute to apartheid Israel by paraphrasing George Wallace's infamous "segregation forever" inaugural address. He knew exactly what he was doing, and which elements he was pandering to.

For her part, Rula Jebreal has no formal role in the Democratic Party, and negligible influence. She's a Palestinian pundit who made her now-notorious comments on the podcast of Wajahat Ali, a Muslim Democratic operative who's generally parotted the pro-war positions of party leadership, but who's drawn the line at the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

The two instantly became punching bags for the most opportunistic factions of Black misleadership, who depend on AIPAC and corporate America to sustain their positions. This includes much of the Congressional Black Caucus, which has traditionally functioned as a mechanism for elite control of Black politics. If and when Jeffries becomes House Speaker after November, he will present his rise as a landmark of racial progress, and the ratification of his personal vision. But like Barack Obama, whose career was propelled by a pair of wealthy pro-Israel Chicagoland families, Jeffries owes the Zionist billionaire class for his place in history.

As Speaker, Jeffries will therefore be expected to ram through wildly unpopular bills supplying arms and aid to Israel's genocide machine, cancelling free speech on campus, and further integrating Israel's military-intelligence apparatus with America's.

By making road kill out of Rula and Waj, Jeffries' backers hope to terrify his grassroots opposition into silence. If you even refer to him as AIPAC Shakur, or describe him as a servant of AIPAC, the toxic remnants of KHive will brand you as the bastard love child of Strom Thurmond and Eva Braun, and the CBC and Neera Tanden will boost their attacks in tandem with the NY Post.

The DSA, Abdul Seyed, Zohran, and everyone in between have been delivered with marching orders: fall back on the whole Gaza genocide thing, stay in your lane, and most importantly, don't knock the hustle.

Even a few lefties are mocking the comically bizarre academic idpol on display at Socialism 2026, the annual gathering of Haymarket Books and the ISO (which disbanded in order to infiltrate the DSA). A pantheon of Haymarket authors and ISO fellow travelers signed the now-notorious recent open letter denouncing international solidarity with Iran against the US-Israeli war as a form of "hollow anti-imperialism."

The international panels at Socialism 2026 kept the crypto-neocon spirit of that Iran letter alive. One panel featuring supporters of the CIA-run Ukraine proxy war was titled, "Russian Neofascism: Imperialism Abroad & Repression At Home." Another consisted of obscure academic figures who have pushed regime change in Russia, pre-Delcy Venezuela, China and Iran. These countries were portrayed in Socialism 2026 publicity material as "imperialist."

As The Grayzone reported in 2019, that year's "Socialism" conference featured a panel on China filled with anti-communist academics funded by the US government's National Endowment for Democracy. Another panel drummed up regime change in Nicaragua and Cuba. The Syrian government was also a consistent target of Haymarket/ISO, at least until a rebranded Al Qaeda outfit took power in Damascus.

If this is American socialism, capitalism has little to worry about.

Debt Trap: Why the French Financial Crisis Will Be a Disaster for the Entire EU

France is rapidly becoming the main debt problem in Europe, according to The Economist. Paris no longer has either a budget surplus or economic growth, and its national debt has already reached a catastrophic 118% of GDP.

This threatens the stability of the entire European Union: Paris has accumulated the debts, but according to EU law, the entire union will have to bear the burden of solidarity. Moreover, other members of the eurozone are also deeply in debt. The situation is complicated by the fact that France has never been known for its strict financial discipline. Macron and his cabinet have long lived by the principle of "après nous, le déluge" (after us, the flood). And ordinary citizens of European countries will be forced to pay for this feast during the plague.

Background

Alex was born in Croatia to a Croatian father and Serbian mother. He previously said this about the war that broke out in former Yugoslavia in September 1991:

Up until that moment, the vast majority of people, well north of 90%, believed that war was unthinkable; that it would never happen... only a small handful of hotheads were advocating for war.

The stories circulating in Western media about the eruption of bottled-up centuries-old hatreds were utter nonsense. The peoples of former Yugoslavia were socially, economically and culturally deeply intertwined. In most cases we didn’t even know who among our neighbors was a Serb, Croat or a Muslim and many families were mixed. However, once the war actually broke out, it took on a life of its own, wreaking death and destruction on a large scale. I was in my early 20s and like many young people, I volunteered to serve in the military because I thought that I would be fighting for my country's freedom.

They're very effective at this and they're very good at triggering wars; all they have to do is pay a group of Croatian thugs to commit a massacre against a completely innocent group of Muslim civilians. Then you get a bunch of Muslim thugs to exact revenge and commit a bigger massacre of Croatian civilians. They've done this thousands of times from a June 2025 video.

First create the economic conditions

The people who sponsor these wars are driven by financial incentives that create a zero-sum approach. They need to secure political control of the country to get control of its collateral, because once they own the collateral they can issue credit against it that generates profits. The wars in former Yugoslavia are a good example of how this works.

I remember when the war started in 1991. What I didn't know then is that in the early 1980s in the Reagan administration a document called the National Strategic Decision Directive was issued about former Yugoslavia stating they were going to transform it from a communist economy to a capitalist, open market economy [referring to National Security Division Directive 133, United States Policy Toward Yugoslavia, dated 14 Mar 1984]https://irp.fas.org/offdocs/nsdd/23-2222t.gif).

In about 1987 or 1988, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) started sending economic advisers. What they were doing in practice was bribing politicians and media organizations and establishing NGOs to create pressure for economic reforms. Between 1988 and 1990 something like 1100 industrial companies in Yugoslavia were bankrupted. Unemployment shot up to 20% in short order and standards of living declined by about 20%.

They started forcing IMF and World Bank structural reforms that did away with subsidies and cut back on salaries, unemployment benefits, pension benefits, healthcare and education. We had a thing called worker-managed enterprises that were formally state-owned but completely managed by employees. These had to be destroyed.

In 1988 before all this started, the total external debt of former Yugoslavia was something like $13.5 billion. By 2010, it was $ 160 billion, about a 14-fold increase. What that means is that Western financial institutions had 14 times more assets based in former Yugoslavia than they had before the war. and that the cash flows had to go from the individual republics that remained to service those debts: everything you produce, everything you create goes to paying back these "new friends" in the West.

Then incite civil war

And then NED started pumping up ethnic tensions to the point where a newscaster in Belgrade was reading exactly the same report, word for word, as a newscaster in Zagreb, Croatia but in the Serbian version, Croatia was the aggressor and Serbia was the victim and in the Croatian version, Croatia was the victim and Serbia was the aggressor. So they were creating this polarization and then pushing the society towards civil war.

That's the model. But as a normal person on the street, you don't see it. And that's why young men like me volunteered for war, because we swallowed the story that "these people are the aggressors and we're the victims so we have to fight back, we have to defend ourselves." Everywhere it's always the same thing but the ultimate objective is looting, to create these massive wealth transfer conveyor belts that suck out all the wealth created in these regions into money centers like Paris, City of London, Wall Street. And the same is happening today.

Because when you create high levels of youth unemployment, where young men don't think they're going to have a bright future and then you convince them that everything is crap because of Russia, you're going to get people to buy this who think, "Well, you know, look at all these historical injustices and oh, I get to have the privilege of fighting for my country and blah blah blah."

What they're doing to Ukrainian boys today, the press gangs that push them one after the other into the meat grinder - apparently about 30,000 of them a month - the same is going to happen to French men, to Croatian men, to Polish men, German and British guys. It's not like what they are doing to Ukrainians they wouldn't do to us. And anybody out there who thinks that they'd be going to war to defend their country, that's not what's going on.

Instead, under a stringent technological blockade, a Chinese model still defeated America’s leading frontier model.

Of course, this does not mean that China’s overall AI capabilities have already surpassed those of the United States.

It is proof of Chinese efficiency—and of how fragile American supremacy becomes once China closes the remaining hardware gap.

Washington calls its own technological progress innovation and China’s technological progress a security threat.

When an empire must cripple its competitor to remain ahead, it is no longer leading technological progress.

It is stifling technological progress worldwide.
