This will become a monthly post for questions/answers regarding real estate properties in Virginia Beach.
Feel free to use this post to:
Over the last few years, we have seen a major uptick in prices in the area, along with a steady flow of new people coming into Virginia Beach. Use this weekly post to ask your questions, try to get advice, etc on an upcoming move or questions about real estate in Virginia Beach.
Along with that, any new open ended question on r/VirginiaBeach about properties and real estate will be removed and asked to move to here. Many of the questions being asked have been asked many times before, which is why we would rather compile these posts into one place for people to ask and get their answers.

Hey everyone! I’m Pakistani American, in my early 30s, and recently moved to Virginia Beach from Northern Virginia. Still getting to know the area and would love to meet some fellow Pakistanis and build a local friend group.
I’m into gaming, movies, tech, fitness, and finding good food. Would be down to grab chai or coffee, try a restaurant, or just hang out.
Are there any active Pakistani/Desi groups, WhatsApp chats, or community events around VB, Norfolk, or Chesapeake? Open to meeting people from all backgrounds, just missing that Desi connection a bit!
Feel free to comment or DM me!

My husband and I are considering moving to Virginia Beach with our young son. I’m a New England native and my husband is from Texas. We lived in Manhattan for about a decade before relocating to Washington state during Covid.
Lately we’ve been realizing how much we miss the East Coast — being closer to friends and family, having Philly/NYC/Boston within easier reach, and just generally being back on that side of the country.
Virginia Beach has recently caught our attention. Housing appears to be relatively affordable, there’s the ocean, apparently a huge horse community, the weather is milder, and Norfolk gives us pretty easy access to flights and Amtrak so we can get to loved ones more easily. I have a horse, so having good boarding options within ~15 minutes is really important to me, and it looks like there are a lot of them.
What am I missing? Is it actually as great as it seems?
A few things I’m wondering about:
*Is it easy to make friends as adults with young kids?
*Are there good activities going on for young kids?
*Are there secular homeschool groups/co-ops? We have a toddler but may homeschool eventually.
*What’s the horse community like?
*Do you go to the beach on a regular basis, or does the traffic/parking/crowds make it annoying?
*Are there neighborhoods where you can have a quiet, residential feel but still be reasonably close to restaurants, coffee, activities, etc.?
We’d rent first if we moved, so we’d have plenty of time to figure out whether we actually like it. I’m just trying to get a sense of what living there is really like from people who are already there.
I’d especially love to hear from you if you relocated from somewhere else and are in a similar life stage. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Friends and I are burnt out from working in nursing. What other jobs in this area would offer $35-40 an hour? Preferably outside of healthcare.

We moved here years ago and have the acquaintance thing down — it's the actual friendships that are eluding us. Kids are 2 and 6. Looking for something with a little more depth than small talk at pickup. Anyone found their people here? Playgroups, moms/dads nights, magic?

Earlier this summer I got sudden desire to sign up for volunteer work at the VB Animal Care and Adoption Center. It's close to where I live, I've wanted to take up some kind of volunteering for awhile now, and I like dogs and would like to spend more time around them (current living situation isn't ideal for owning one just yet).
Anyhow, I've gone through the entire process. Background checks, fingerprints, and took the tour of the shelter this weekend. Now I've been told go forth and prosper....and I'm little intimidated about jumping into things. All of the rooms with different purposes, finding my way around to do anything, even just finding things to sign up for. The tour covered a lot of broad general information about the center but less on the particulars.
Putting out feelers for anyone that regularly volunteers at the center. Hoping that I'd be be able to find someone that doesn't mind having someone shadow them. Or if folks just wanted to post tips and lessons learned. That could be helpful too, for myself and maybe others in the future.
If this was not an ideal forum to post this, my bad. I tried looking for any similar sub reddits or any FB groups.

I called the Virginia Beach 311 hotline and they said all day today they are only letting people end up to their knees, is that true?

Are there any gyms in the VB area with sauna other than One Life? I don’t care very much about the other gym facilities as I do a lot of sports to stay fit, but would love to find somewhere that offers sauna/steam room/ cold plunge etc to visit regularly. Is one life my only option? I’m also open to tennis/country clubs that have reasonable membership fees. Not interested in infrared. Also, if you’re someone with a private sauna looking for an active friend that’s new to the area - please message me 😂

I need to get a survey done out in Pungo for a property i’m purchasing. I was thinking about going with MidAltantic Surveying but I’ve heard that I may have better options?
Any recommendations would be nice.

Hey everyone! My mom's birthday is coming up soon and I really want to get her something special.
I'm looking for local flower shops or independent florists in Virginia Beach or around Hampton Roads that make custom Ramo Buchón bouquets like the ones in the photos specifically large red or pink rose arrangements featuring custom printed message sashes, gold butterfly clips, and crown toppers.
Does anyone know of any local florists or local social media designers in the VA Beach area who specialize in this specific style? I'd love any direct recommendations or business pages. Thanks so much for your help!

We are planning a beach trip for a few days coming up and I was wondering if there are any stores or gas stations: convenience stores selling Faygo sodas down there?

I am genuinely confused why I can turn down 17th St. without advanced warning that the road is closed. All of the roadwork in the vibe district looks to be going on without anyone with a functioning brain leading the project.

Hi r/VirginiaBeach,
I'm a conservation scientist at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, where I study migratory birds, including the rare Bicknell's Thrush. Our recent research has found that the mid-Atlantic region is an important area for fall migratory stopover, with nearly all of our tracked birds spending extensive time here before continuing south.
Last year, we determined that autonomous recording units (ARUs) can be used successfully to detect Bicknell's Thrush and Gray-cheeked Thrush during stopover. These are devices that record bird sound which we then analyze with machine learning to determine which species are in the area. We recently received funding to increase the number of ARUs surveying for these species in forests across the region, and this year we'd also like to pilot recruiting volunteers to deploy devices on private land as well.
The Eastern Shore of VA turns out to be a particularly important area for this special species, and we'd love to recruit more volunteers from this area to help us in our research. No bird knowledge required! If you have a property on the eastern shore and you're interested in learning more about what species of birds call it home, we'd love for you to volunteer.
If you're interested in deploying a device from late sept-late october, or would like to learn more about the project, please fill out this form at this link: https://forms.gle/aznZ26hS3GkLnZ9r7
Thanks for considering!

I have this exact camera and I was just wondering if I would be able to bring it in and take pictures or not?
