There is a stray thats taken residence on my porch. He is a huge, but fixed, tom, who keeps the other males away and has put a top to the cat piss smell as I walk out my front door. (Apparently cats like to pee in azalea bushes?)
Anyway, he only brings us prey when we forget to leave him food. Its a symbiotic relationship. When hes hungry he knows we have food for him, but if we dont have food for him then obviously WE must be the hungry ones this time.

Lotta people think of cats as solitary but they are pretty communal. Everybody likes to say that they hunt for sport because they're just naturally violent or something, but the actual reality is that they over hunt so that there is surplus food available for the rest of their little colony in the event someone else is unsuccessful or unable to hunt.
Anyway yeah, he is noticing your food deficit and pitching in, essentially.

There was a farm cat that I took up feeding inside the house to let her back outside after particularly cold nights. If I forgot to be prompt on the food, I would find mice, doves, squirrels and then flying squirrels at the door. She had a straw lined outdoor shelter, but never used the litterbox I got for her inside the house.

Keep the cat indoors -- unless you're indoors are infested with venomous snakes, then I'd consider moving, but honestly in today's markets you'd be hard pressed to find a place without venomous snakes so maybe it's best if you don't get a cat.

Aww my cat did the same for me once but left it at the foot of my bed on the floor. Thankfully it's just a juvenile one and it's already dead when I woke up. She's an indoor cat so the snake definitely snuck in to rob her of cat food so it was justifiable homicide. Edited for grammar

And the defining difference, all those foods you listed are one big piece you eat all of what you touch and don't require shoving your fingers into your mouth or licking anything. While eating from a communal finger food (say, a box of pizza), I don't lick my fingers then flick tons of big crumbs back onto the pile, or God forbid open mouth chew over the pot...

I get what you mean. Sometimes certain things about certain cultures can gross others out.
Like I find it abhorrent how within some cultures, people wouldn't feed their kids friends and instead send them home.
Or how some wear shoes in the house. Or barely wipe their ass with dry toilet paper. Or when people barely season their food past salt and black pepper. Or have a dog that is casually allowed to lick their face or eat from the table.
Grosses me the fuck right out. Especially when they then try to claim superiority when seeing other cultures, on hygiene grounds.

I know it's cultural but in a camping situation would some cultures elect to use utensils to keep hands clean? I'm assuming that water isn't always readily available in large supply when you're in nature so you need to conserve and not waste too much on handwashing.

They are campers, from Indonesia, judging by the language.
They eat on a layer of wrapping paper normally for convenience, easy to throw away after.
Eating with hands is a cultural norm in southeast asia, india, middle east and parts of africa.
Just like middle east, communal eating from one serving is practiced widely to varying degrees (on floor, tables etc.). but in this case it might also be for convenience.

Indonesians do use fork and spoon for eating but it's also an accepted traditonal etiquette to eat with bare hands on the floor with only a foodwrap paper or banana leaf as the plate.
Secondly, they are hikers. They are well known for not observing the utmost hygiene during outdoor trip LoL

That’s a couple months old kitten! The baby was hungry and saying “I brought you dis mouse, may I have rice, plz?” My Beansie Girl, passed in April ),: , would find mice in my apartment and leave them on the floor in my bedroom. And I would praise her and say how much I love it. Annnnd then throw it outside when she wasn’t looking lol. My older girl always brings me toys and she’ll meow with them in her mouth. I do the same thing as I did with Beans, I praise her and tell her how much I love it ❤️
