I’m not saying this specific incident is fake, but Citizen app is full of misinformation and fear mongering. I deleted that shit during the pandemic once I realized how unnecessarily paranoid it was making me.

(Also, why censor the word shooting??)

Content creators who make money censor words so large platforms don’t demonetize their videos. That trend carrying over to regular people typing on the internet is the most annoying pet peeve ever!!

1. Why would platforms demonetize videos owing to certain words?
   
2. Where do they find the list of words to be censored?
   
3. Who benefits from saying something like sh**ting versus "shooting"? Put differently, either viewers know the word to be "shooting" (based on context, which is how language works) or, perhaps interpret it as "shitting"--which doesn't seem to be objectively "better" by any metric.

I don’t know what to tell you. Obviously there’s no magical list of forbidden words. Large platforms have policies because shockingly, brands don’t always want their ads running next to content about suicide, sexual assault, violence, and other bad shit. Creators then censor themselves (sometimes unnecessarily) to avoid getting flagged and removed

That's interesting because there is lots of content on youtube (and other platforms) about the categories that you have mentioned with the censorship but, given the nature of the content itself (let's say child rape and murder--in true crime content) logically, how can a brand be comfortable with the content (subject matter) simply because they say "r*pe" or "m*rder" but the content of the content is otherwise identical? Like who is the audience that somehow is "mortally offended" by those words, but are "completely comfortable" (to the point of ascribing positive impressions on the product being advertised) with the same content but with just a few words being censored.

And, let's be honest here---I think you and I would agree that, given the context, 100% of viewers read "s*icide" as "suicide" when they mentally process ("read") the word---so I wonder what they could possibly feel is being gained.
