Hello! I'm trying to switch up the location where my club hosts its meetings, and I wanted y'all's opinions on where you usually prefer club meetings to be. Our club is a STEM club and generally has students who end up on the south/east campus a lot. So, we've been leaning towards meetings being there. But I wanted to ask whether y'all prefer meetings to be held there or somewhere more central, like Tate or MLC. Our club usually meets around 6:30 PM. Could y'all drop your opinions on what you prefer club meeting locations to be in the comments? Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone, I’m a freshman guy here at UGA. I came here out of state so I knew no one prior to coming here. The past 3 weeks has been me just doing everything solo basically. My roomate and I are good friends but he rushed a frat so he has to do everything with them. I also have friends in almost every class I have who I sit next to every time but I haven’t done anything out of class with them. I go to the dining hall alone and have no one to go to any activities and such with. I even got tickets for all the home football games but didn’t go today because there wasn’t a single person to go with. I was thinking about the game all week but forgot about it when I woke up this morning to the point I didn’t even remember it was happening till 4pm which just shows I don’t talk to anyone and the fact my roomate is always gone and doing stuff with his frat. Can someone please help me with some ways to make some friends, especially a friend group. I am thinking about joining a few clubs but I’m also not sure which ones are good for making friends, especially ones that have “normal” guys in them. I’m not trying to be rude with that, I just couldn’t think of the right words. I just want friends that participate in the average college experience like going downtown, going to the football games, playing recreational sports together and stuff like that. In high school I always had friends and never really had a problem with it. I’m a pretty fit and attractive guy so once I actually meet people, I don’t have any problems with them not wanting to be friends with me. Anyways, sorry for the rant, I just felt super lonely sitting in my dorm room all day while everyone else was with their friends at the football game. I would really like advice on how to make friends here and things to do.

my dad is coming to visit for the oklahoma game on the 26th and since i don’t have tickets to that game, i wanted to take him downtown to watch it together. this would be his first time in athens and i want to make it special. where is the best/most fun place to watch the game downtown. im also not 21 and im not sure how much bars or restaurants care on game days.

Question do sports have sport managers here? Not like a coach or an adult but like sometimes they’ll have female sports manager, who is a student, who just boost spirits, prepare waters after match’s, prepare setting up for practices and cleaning up after, and can keep score of games and stuff. They also do advertising for the group and can help the coach manage organizing games or smth. Or maybe raise money for the group as well. Idk if that’s a thing at UGA and was wondering if it was and if it is, how does one apply for it?

Although I am a huge proponent of bus use, I also occasionally use a scooter when buses may not be as reliable on the weekend. I want to give some pointers for anyone using a bike or scooter around campus.

1. Use the road! Do not, under any circumstances, actively ride down a sidewalk. That is insanely dangerous both for pedestrians and especially for you.

2. If you have to use a sidewalk, such as to get around traffic or a weird turn, please walk your bike/scooter while you're on it.

3. Use a lock! While pretty much all of campus is a safe place to park your ride, it never hurts to have a protected bike lock whether that be by PIN or by key.

4. Follow traffic rules! While actively riding, you are considered a vehicle by the law. Follow traffic signs and lights including stop signs, red lights, and crosswalk stops. In general, you can cross through a crosswalk if you WALK your ride through that intersection in the allowed direction of crossing.

5. Just be reasonable. And be safe. Use your sense and ride defensively. And if anyone yells at you for following the rules, go on with your day.

Hi, everyone! I’m curious about the experiences of Black students in North Georgia. I am a Black woman who was accepted as a transfer student to UGA for Spring 2027. I’m currently enrolled at GSU, and I’m a little worried about experiencing racism further north. Are people in Athens welcoming to Black students? I’ve heard different racial experiences from people, and I just want to know what it’s really like. Is Athens safe and welcoming? Obviously, I know racism exists everywhere, but I would appreciate hearing honest experiences. ☺️

Might be a long shot, but I thought I'd ask here since I don't know people in the class. I got violently sick right before class (suspecting food poisoning from something I ate), and I couldn't attend class today. Could someone tell me what was covered and/or help me out with some notes? I'm pretty stressed because I missed it.

I’m a freshman premed considering changing from BSA Biological Science to Biomedical Physiology as I am aiming for a career in orthopedic surgery. I feel that BIPH aligns more with my interests, but I am concerned about whether BIPH will be more time consuming and challenging, will drop my GPA, has more unrelated classes outside of premed reqs that I’d have to take, and is too popular. I know ortho surgeons in the area that have majored in Biological Science, but not BIPH as it’s relatively new. Also, one concern is that I heard Biological Science has a lot of opportunities, scholarships, etc. in the AG college, but I don’t know if it’s true for me as a premed not interested in agriculture or environment. The only class I really was looking forward to was avian surgical techniques. I don’t know about the opportunities in BIPH, but I want to do research (maybe w RBIO) for in ortho, bones, mobility, etc. Most of the opportunities in the Ag college are geared towards envi/animal topics, but I may not have searched well enough yet. I want a major I enjoy, but also one I can manage outside ecs and my overall health in as I am already super busy. If I’d be taking the same amount and difficulty of courses, I’d rather go with one I enjoy, but I don’t know if that is the case between the two. My main overall goals currently are to graduate with a high GPA, score well on the MCAT, and get into a great medical school. Anyone with experience, please help :))

Is it just me or is being a transfer at uga so difficult. I came from out of state so i literally dont know anyone here, and i feel like nobody will talk to me.

I joined a few clubs here and there but people still have their people they know whether is be from sorority or whatever else. Im trying my best but i still have yet to find anyone to hangout w outside of clubs and classes. Let alone at the upcoming football games…..its gonna be me myself and I there.
