I am on day 4 of having taken this picture and trading in my beautiful Celestite Blue/Grey 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid SE at 42,350 miles for the Wind Chill Pearl 2026 XSE.

If you were to ask me if I miss my Corolla Cross, that is a little bit of a loaded question, and I want to share some thoughts with folks making this same sort of consideration, so forgive the breadth of information being outlined but with 20 years of driving experience, I’m going to circle around to this loaded question.

I’ve owned a handful of cars over the years:
-Corolla: model years 1994 (used), 2006 (used), 2014 (new), 2015 (new)
-Camry Hybrid: model year 2011 (used)
-RAV4 Hybrid: model year 2018 (new)
-Corolla Cross: 2022 (new)
-Corolla Cross Hybrid: 2023 (new)
-C-HR BEV: 2026 (new)

I’ve learned a few lessons in buying new vs used, gas vs hybrid. The jury is still out on gas vs hybrid vs BEV in my book. I really wanted to take the leap and go RAV4 PHEV this time to get more comfortable with the idea of going more electrified, but there was a $6,000 price difference with the RAV4 being almost $48,000 on an SE and the C-HR being shy of $42,000.

Fueling/Battery Resupply
A few bits of information that will help in answering this question. I’m in central South Carolina. As a state, we haven’t built up a significant number of public charging stations. This is probably my largest concern as I do like to travel some. Gas stations are very abundantly plentiful; depending on which exit you’re at, you can find at many of them anywhere from 2-6 different options. Rapid Charging is available but much more limited. Do your homework on your area before making this kind of decision. I would also suggest speaking with your Toyota Dealership prior to the purchase/lease of a new BEV for any recommendations you may want to have in place first. For availability of charging stations in my area, I’m going to have to give this to the Gas/Hybrid/PHEV categories.

Gas vs Hybrid vs BEV
After owning both Gas and Hybrid powered vehicles, a handful of them make a lot more sense as a hybrid. The Corolla Cross hybrid is a far superior vehicle to the gas version. It automatically comes with the e-AWD system and a big power increase. In mixed driving I consistently stayed around the mid 40s with mpg. My gas stayed in the mid to upper 20s and I felt like I had to keep my foot all the way down on the gas pedal all the time. Hybrid RAV4 and Camry 1000% make perfect sense. When I traded in my ‘18 RAV4 with 70,000+ miles, still had more than 80% of the brake pads left. Expenses like that are going to be a lot lower because things don’t work as hard for as long. While there is a lot of folks worried about the switch to any degree of electrification. Don’t stress it.

One quirk that I have picked up on that I see in myself is the “range anxiety”. I look at a half charged battery and see it says 150ish miles, and that sort of worries me. Toyota BEVs thrive in charging within the 10-80% zone. Knowing that a “full charge” is something I wont often fully achieve does give some pause. For that reason, I see why I was more comfortable with going PHEV first, and at present that is my only “regret”. I’m also only 4 days in.

Size difference between CC and C-HR
With the current model (2026) being virtually identical to my (2023) the Corolla Cross is more narrow and has a smaller back seat compared to the C-HR. There’s also more width in the trunk in the C-HR. As a single person that rarely (maybe 1-2x per month) has multiple people in the car for short trips, this isn’t much of an issue at all.

CC vs CCh vs CHR thrill factor
When I tell you my gas version of the Corolla Cross was so underwhelming, that is an underwhelming understatement. I found myself smiling far more in the hybrid. C-HR takes the cake in this contest. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds on a car in the low $40k range with that instant torque, I still haven’t gotten over that thrill. There is no hesitation in those two electric motors, you floor it and it launches. I even joked with one of the guys in the service department about the fact that old people shouldn’t be driving a 4000lb rocket because that is what this car literally is. The naughty grin I make when a car thinks they want to be rude and pass me or drive aggressively and I zip ahead and get away from them, is its own form of pleasure.

Passion
I can see exactly where Toyota has been going with their decision making. There have been a lot of strategic moves that really have shown the passion they put in to each of their vehicles. For anyone bold enough to say Toyota is lacking, hasn’t looked at the progress of their strategy from the past 20, or even 10, years.

Will I miss my Corolla Cross?
The short answer, no. I’m quite pleased with my decision so far. Check back in a month or two and I’ll let you know if I’ve changed my mind yet.

NAGOYA, Japan -- Toyota Motor hopes to increase operating profit from sources other than new-car sales, such as software updates and vehicle leasing, by about 40% to reach 3 trillion yen ($19.2 billion) in fiscal 2030, Nikkei has learned.

By generating profit from the 150 million Toyotas already on the road worldwide, the Japanese automaker aims to shift away from a business model that ties earnings strongly to the number of new cars sold.

Globally, the number of software-defined vehicles (SDVs), whose performance is enhanced through software updates, is expected to expand. Services provided after new-car delivery, such as adding features for safer driving and in-car entertainment, will become crucial to growth for automakers.

Toyota handles systems that support safe driving using wireless communication, sales financing for leased vehicles and sales of parts such as tires and car navigation systems. Profits from these services are referred to as "value chain revenue." This already generates operating profit of roughly 2.1 trillion yen. Plans call for increasing this figure by about 150 billion yen per year through 2030.

Operating profit of 3 trillion yen from areas other than new-vehicle sales would be equivalent to about 80% of Toyota's consolidated operating profit for the year ended March.

Toyota debuted a paid service that lets users change the functions of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla sports cars via a smartphone app, such as adding a cooling function for the electronic control system when it overheats. The RAV4 sport utility vehicle, launched at the end of 2025, is equipped with Toyota's Arene proprietary software platform. The automaker intends to expand SDV offerings.

Toyota also will broaden its spare parts business globally. Having opened a warehouse in Belgium, the company has created a structure that lets it supply parts from 16 regional hub warehouses to 50 countries. In Italy and eastern Europe, where the average car ownership period is 15 years, Toyota plans to promote its spare parts supply capabilities.

As part of the value chain business, Toyota also is focusing on used-car sales. One program lets customers add safety features such as obstacle detection when buying used cars. Affiliated dealerships will offer lower prices by simplifying the interior cleaning process of used cars. Toyota aims to increase annual domestic used-car sales to 550,000 units by 2030 from around 350,000 now.

Toyota's large sales volume represents the backbone of the automaker's ability to expand its value chain business. Global sales reached 10.53 million units in 2025, higher than Volkswagen's 8.98 million units and Hyundai Motor's 7.27 million. The Japanese company also sells more than double the numbers of major electric vehicle companies such as China's BYD and Tesla of the U.S.

"We will maintain our current growth pace through increasing the number of vehicles in operation and expanding regionally and nationally," Executive Vice President Yoichi Miyazaki said regarding value chain revenue.

Kohei Takahashi, an analyst at UBS Securities, praised the approach.

"Toyota is expanding its earnings by increasing profits after selling new cars. This is a major difference between Toyota and Chinese companies," Takahashi said.

Does anyone have experience with this model and engine? It has a 1.0-litre, 53 kW petrol engine and just under 100,000 km on the clock. What should I look out for when buying one, and how reliable are these engines? Do they have any typical or known issues? The asking prices are generally around €7,000 here in Croatia. Please help :)

I was out of the country and left my car at my now ex's place. She ran her car into my parked car and paid for body work.

What prompted the ADAS question is I saw the PCS light flash on for a brief moment in the last month. It has never happened in summertime.

I decided to be petty and harass the ex and ask for the invoice and details of the body work, since she never shared it with me (typical). It looks like the shop didn't do recalibration. All the invoice says is "overhaul front bumper, replace front bumper cover, LT front, wheel opening molding, and paint bumper cover."

Anyway, I plan on sending the ex the bill if recalibration is needed. If she refuses to pay OOP, I'll kick it up to her insurance. I already filed a voluntary crash report for the county she lives in.

About a year ago my car began having what seemed to be transmission issues, money is extremely tight so I didn't have the money to get the car diagnosed and especially not thought about even being fixed because I knew a transmission issue would've been way beyond my budget. I finally got my car scanned the other day and it reads a c2173, looking online it says this could cause the transmission to act weird. The last time I tried to do anything about my car it would drive fine until I got to about 30mph before either sticking then moving past 30 or stalling out down to about 15-20mph. I guess I'm just curious if this could really JUST be caused by a faulty tire pressure sensor. GRANTED when i purchased the car it had the tire pressure sensor ALREADY faulty, I just drove the car for about 7 months with the tire pressure light on because I couldn't afford to bring it in anywhere. If it is JUST the sensor causing the transmission to act weird, will getting it replaced immediately clear up any issues with the transmission delay. I'm honestly just still really broke and don't want to spend all my money on something that wont even help anyway

2014 Camry with 242k miles. CARFAX shows the Toyota dealer flushed the transmission at 81k, with no record of service since, so it may have about 161k miles on the current fluid.

Transmission shifts smooth. Would you do a drain-and-fill with Toyota WS at this mileage, or leave it alone?

As a crown Signia owner, this is my first experience with a Toyota hybrid and the more I read about them, the more at awe I become at how something so simple can be so effective/efficient.

The way this car captures kinetic energy is so impressive. There’s a permanent mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels through two motor generators. There’s no separate starter motor, no alternator, no drive belt, no clutch packs, no torque converter. The onboard computer constantly determines the correct speed of one of the motor generators which also acts as the virtual gear selector.

If you set your cruise, the onboard computer needs to continuously calculate the appropriate gear ratio for its electric motor to maintain your set speed. Can you imagine how challenging it must be for the computer to maintain a single speed on a descent? And yet somehow the Crown Signia effortlessly maintains my set speed whilst simultaneously recharging the battery and applying torque to the wheels just enough to maintain a consistent velocity.

I can’t speak to any other hybrids in Toyotas lineup but at least in the crown Signia, I’m thoroughly impressed with this powertrain.

Sharing a rare and unique 1980s German Language Toyota MR2 sales brochure

As per the title.

So im probably buying this car. Its been sitting for 20 years in storage. Im assuming i have to replace all fuel lines and brake lines and clean out the tank and yadda yadda yadda. Where should I start does anyone have resources/ YouTube videos o should be watching as i embark on this journey?

My dad's mechanic offered him a 2014 Toyota Highlander LE with 180,000 miles for around $5,000. A part of me thinks that for my first car this is a lot of mileage but another part of me thinks that we're in a lucky position because if anything goes wrong we have those same mechanics to help with the car. My dad has gone to them for years and they have a good reputation but I still want to get more input on getting a car like this.

I have a 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid SE. I bought an aftermarket key and I am trying to register it. However, my tech stream version 17 is asking for a seed code. I don’t have a login for Toyota information systems so I can’t generate my passcode. I was hoping maybe someone in your he community has TIS access or a professional lock smith software who can generate me this code so I can register my new key. 2005 Toyota Sienna AWD. West coast Canada. 220,000km and seller asking for CAD$5000.

The rocker doesn't look good. Everywhere else with the worst rust when I poke it, a flake comes off and seems solid under the flake.

2020 RAV4 AWD. Recently went in to my nearest toyota dealership. I usually go to another one out of my way. One of the things I asked them to check was the condition of the transmission fluid. I ended up waiting in the lobby. I got a call a couple hours later letting me know I could wait to get the transmission serviced at 60k miles. It was currently at 52k. I am planning a long road trip in the next months so I didn’t want to worry about anything going wrong or needing correction, far away. I said ok. They said $389 for the service and I let the gentleman man know I previously got a quote for $289 and he said that it was for a drain and fill. We agreed the service would be for a drain and fill. This was over phone. I felt uneasy over the confirmation being over phone so I sent a confirmation text just in case. I was so focused on what I was working on in the lobby I did not think about how I never received a work order to sign, which coming to think of it some more I think is usually done at the other toyota dealership I go to. I get a text the vehicle is ready. I get a rundown of what was done. I go to sign the RO. When signing the RO for pickup I only looked at the totals to add them up without looking at the details (partly because of my sense of being under pressure to get out of the line so they can check other people out) Anyway. Today as I am filing it away I thought I would look into the packet they gave…They did a flush not a drain and replace/fill... How bad is this? I have never had the transmission fluid changed. Never towed or anything. The vehicle has driven well so far. Is there a way to check to see that the transmission is going to be good long term? I have heard you should only do drain and fills on transmissions so thats why I am worried.

So recently the plastic of my key shell that's attached to my key broke so I may need to buy a spare key soon. a few questions I have is if I move the key and the chip to a new key shell, will this allow me to start the car or am I going to have to buy a new key? The second question I have is if I buy a new key from the KeyMe kiosk that Walmart has, will it arrive already programmed to where it will start my car? The third question I have is what does it mean when a car key has a fully functional transponder? The picture above is from the KeyMe kiosk.
