I donāt think theyāre knocking tracking progress, just calling it training. I lift weights, Iām even in between sets right now. Got a spreadsheet! But itās working out or just weightlifting because Iām not training for anything.

I don't think you need a specific competition to be "training" so long as you're actively trying to improve your mile or weights or lap time or whatever. If someone runs a faster mile every month but doesn't intend to do a competition are they somehow not training?
Just weird gym elitism.

You could just be there to be there, for example I cycle to cycle and maybe the view? But Iām not section timing my corse km by km or even care if Iām faster or slower then I was last week. Who wants a draw full of metrics from ten years ago? Enjoy life let the stress go. As to him being sick of making the always the first move? That was his frustration leaking, youāre a guy itās set for life Iām afraid if you want it, you got to move it move it š¶
