Yeah 体力直播(exercise stream) is a thing in china TikTok and recently it spreads to global TikTok too. It's basically someone pretending to eat on stream and there's a "menu" for donation on the side that if you donate, they had to do something, which encourage you to interrupt their meal. It ranges from greeting to asking them to do tough exercises depending on the value of the gift. I watch this one guy's stream and he basically pretending to be hurt or tired than he is just to get more donations. If you "beat" him, (basically donate so much that he surrender) your name will be printed and put on the wall behind him.

It is kinda dystopian. But thats how they get you hooked. The more they act like your donation has affected them, the more people are willing to donate and stick around to watch. The one op showed is just a bigger version of it where it involves dancing and selecting different girls like a game.

Of course I couldn't say she's 100% acting (since it looks like it's a big company running the show) but her acting distressed is basically required for this anyway.

If you can read mandarin and scroll TikTok (not douyin) long enough you see this kinda stream always. Theres one I saw where they setup the live like an office meeting, with the boss talking, and you can donate for the girls to dance mid meeting or kick the boss lol.

There are facebook livestreams like this too. People send stickers that will make the livestreamer do or say certain things on camera. Sometimes it’s fucked up or humiliating things. It’s like a sad, digital human zoo.

I don't get it either. Not just for these types of "negative" streams too, I have a friend that will happily spend £25 on Twitch for donations and bits and stuff but then won't go to the cinema or a restaurant with us cause that's expensive and just a one-off thing.

He'll do anything very cheap/free though.

I'd get that argument if he was spending it on a game, Netflix subscription, or something else more long-lasting/permanent but nope... How he's spending I'd say is even shorter lived than a whole night out.

People donating money to streamers that might legitimately be worth millions blows my mind. Its sad some people are more willing to give money to a rich online stranger for basically nothing than to spend a little money doing something with friends. Hopefully they grow out of that

It's been a genuine worry in Asian countries for years that young men would become solitary and resort to porn or things like this instead of looking for relationships resulting in massive decline in population. It's becoming completely true and we haven't yet seen the impact.
