So the old map made sacrifices for functionality, the new map for people's feelings. Please don't take this the wrong way but I wish everyone just knew the earth was round and the correct map is the other one she showed (the non square one)

I don't know if I would think different living in Africa, but the Mercator styleaps look better. The new is so flat in Russia /Canada

Exactly. All of this is just people being nice to each other. Someone asked, and everyone said "Fine, have it, we don't care anyway!" (Except for the country that voted for a criminal and pedophile as president twice! But who cares what they think.)
