I worked with a guy of Chinese descent here in New Zealand years ago, his family came to NZ back in the gold rush days, so multiple generations. He was about as kiwi as it gets, almost stereotypically so- played rugby, went hunting and fishing on the wknd etc. Man did it piss him off when people would ask where he was from! Nah they weren't hiding. They've been saying all these things to black and latino people for a long time and many people just didn't challenge them or film them (unless you were part of the targeted community. But then people didn't believe it was happening that much. Spoiler alert: it was/is). Now that they feel emboldened they're targeting every non-white ethnicity which increased visibility.
The glee with which they say it though...I'll agree that's grown recently.

I'm originally from the NYC area, but I've been living in Mississippi since 2010. I belong to a large non profit organization, and have a good couple hundred aquaintances from the area on my Facebook. Prior to 2015, I saw little to no racism posted. As soon as Trump made hating Mexicans his campaign strategy, I started seeing racist content towards Mexicans being posted daily.
I'm a minority myself, and up until 2015 I didn't experience much hate directed towards myself and my community. It was there, don't get me wrong, I knew there was hate -- but nothing like the last ten years. The last ten years have been brutal, like it would take me a while to describe everything that's happened, so I'll spare you, but it went beyond just words. Myself and my relatives have dealt with property destruction, and threats to the physical safety of my children. I have dual citizenship, and am seriously considering leaving the country as soon as it's financially feasible. Was actually looking at what real estate I can possibly afford elsewhere, again, like a couple of hours ago...

I’ve been doing this since forever. You can see the light leave their eyes when you hit someone that knows they deserve it.
This feeling can also be achieved by telling someone they are being disrespectful/ it’s about respect. This works for most annoying behaviours because the offending person deep down knows this.
They have no real come back or defensive, you just say it’s disrespectful, not rude or anything else. Just disrespectful.

And let me tell you, every single tough guy asshole looks real scared all the sudden as soon as an entire crowd is booing them. Like it must trigger some kinda animal-level instinct because you just don’t see fear that strong in people’s eyes usually. It doesn’t even look like a regular fight/flight/freeze/fawn reaction, it looks more like someone realizing “welp, I’m about to die and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Racism is predicated on a system of finding a whole lot of people to keep beneath you. It is emotionally necessary for those who can't climb up and can't feel any better about that unless they can punch down. If they gave up the system and everyone was equal, in their head, doesn't that mean they have fallen to the bottom?
Yes, because without race the have nothing. When it gets this far racism has infected every facet of their life- who they choose to associate with, what they teach others, who they have given their trust to and what bridges they've burned, what hobbies or words or music is acceptable, how the golden rule works, and all their other misdeeds. Their only contribution to this world as it is is how racist they can be and how much racism and bigotry they can show support for hoping they've hitched their wagon to a free ride to nothing they have earned, to turn lies that keep them comfortable into punishable offenses for arguing and upsetting their feelings.

I once called the cops on a couple of rednecks that were harassing black kids in my old neighborhood (small-ish southern town). They claimed a bike had been stolen, so they came to the main black neighborhood in town with baseball bats. Charming fellas.
I went ahead and called 911, and to the town PD's credit, they sent the two most gigantic black cops I've ever seen in my life. They looked the size of John Coffey in The Green Mile. They both had to duck to get out of the Crown Vic. They were fucking titans. Like, it struck me as statistically remarkable that two men of that size would even be in the same small town, much less that they'd both be cops.
Needless to say, all the piss and vinegar immediately drained out of the rednecks as they quickly dropped their bats and quietly volunteered for their ride to the station. It was a good day for all who witnessed it, and the memory of it always warms my heart.

I grew up in a predominantly white, lower income neighborhood. One of the girls who babysat me when I was little had a black boyfriend and they had a baby. When the baby was around 3 or so, he chased a ball into the neighbors front lawn. When I say lawn, we're talking maybe 200 square feet. These are bungalows and two flats. Anyway, racist old man comes out immediately and yells at the girl to "keep her [hard R] baby off his lawn". He came down the porch continuing to lob racist nouns at the whole family (who were all white except the boyfriend). The family calls the police who have exactly one black officer who was cool with us as kids but was a giant and looked mean as hell. Well that's who they sent to the call. Old racist white guy wouldn't open the door. Pulled his shades and pretended he wasn't home. Family brought out the lemonade and everyone stood around having a glass with the officer standing about a half a foot into old man's yard...on the grass. I'm 52 and still laugh when I picture the cop standing on dudes grass drinking lemonade.

My dad and I were walking past a couple of kids spray painting a swastika on the front of a grocery store one time. My dad grabbed them by the scruff of the necks and dragged them inside like a citizens arrest. The owner called the cops. The kids started crying, saying they were sorry and it was "just a joke," and that's when my dad, the son of a holocaust survivor, lit into them. "You think millions of people dying is funny!? You think my family being murdered is funny!?"
My dad is like the most calm laid back guy ever, the whole thing was probably the most badass thing I've ever seen him do. The irony of trying to pull off that stupid stunt and getting caught by the son of a Holocaust survivor was especially rich.

This reminds me of when there were two patients in a semi-private shared room (bed A and bed B.) One patient was Filipino and spoke English, but would naturally sometimes speak in Tagalo to her family when she would talk to them on her phone. The other patient told their assigned nurse they wanted a private room (we didn’t have any, anyone in a private room was in isolation for something infectious and medically needed isolation.) She complained how the other patient kept talking in another language and it really bothered her. Whole back-and-forth about it with their nurse, despite explaining why she couldn’t get a private room. Eventually she asks for the charge nurse.
Charge nurse walks in there saying, “Your nurse told me that you had concerns about someone not speaking English around you and you wanted to speak with the charge?” Patient immediately took one look at the charge, broke down in tears, and immediately gets upset. Charge nurse was also Asian (different country.) The complaining patient gets up and goes into the bathroom screaming she won’t come out.

Anyway clinical admin gets involved, we find a private room on another unit to move … the Filipino patient for having to endure that ridiculousness and because crappy racist behavior should not be rewarded.
