Hello!
I come here now with the greatest of news. That is, I have finally finished translating Dogra Magra, after four long years.
I really don't know what to say. It really feels like a long dream. I never really thought I could finish it. With setback after setback, and creative breakdowns and all, it seemed destined for a long ride towards somewhere. But, luckily, I managed to do it, and now, I present the final update.
Well, I say final, but I declare that I am not finished with this yet. What I give to you is what I call the 'rough draft'. That is to say, I want to correct some things there. For instance, my earliest efforts to translate this, I find tedious and awkward to read. What I want now is not a translated product, but a work of art, that can stand alongside the Japanese greats that have been translated around the world. I want it to feel natural, as if the novel were written in English, while retaining the voice of Q-san. And this will be the long haul. Yes, this will be easier to do than translating, but this will perhaps take the longest time to do, because in a few weeks, I will be focused on law studies, and once more, the window of opportunity to edit this will slow down. It will be a while before I finish my true vision of this. Let's say I am 50% from my true goal with all this.
Still, I present the somewhat finished product. Rest assured, this has been translated all the way to the end, and I tried to make it as good as it can, though as I said, it still needs a whole lot of fixing before I can declare this of quality.
I would like to thank all my supporters over the years, who have supported me throughout this long journey. Just know that each word I translated has your encouragement within them, and has made my determination to see through this ever stronger. I cannot thank you enough. Whether I do finish the final product soon, or I go do another translation job (which is not soon, please let me rest! lol), I hope you will continue to support this, and I shall carry the memories of this moment within my heart, as a sign that I can really do it if I try and punch in the hours.
Thank you as well for listening to my rambles, my little updates about my life, even if it had nothing to do with Dogra Magra. I made me feel wanted and loved. I can only say that you have gave me a reason to love myself, which, when I began back in 2022, I was severely lacking in. Now, I am content with living the best life that I can, and you are one factor in that equation.
Thank you to the Alter Ego community for allowing me to post these updates of mine on the translation. It is nice to know I have a community where I am loved.
When I began this, I would never expect it to be on this massive scale. I simply did this out of love for the book and the need to show people the beauty of the mysterious last book of Alter Ego, and that odd character from Bungou Stray Dogs. I wanted people to know that this book is as crackers and as absurd as any avant garde novel this side of Sterne, Joyce, Faulkner, Woolf, and all the other modernists. And I hope that, through this effort I did, I have shun a light to this great detective novel the likes not even Doyle or Christie can conceive. Dogra Magra is a league of its own, a study of the mind, the lengths one would go through for the sake of knowledge, and a quest to find one's identity, if even possible.
And now, I believe I have said all that I can say. All I can do now is allow myself out the door towards a new chapter. I hope you will allow me back in when I do return some day. Remember me as the one who fully translated this novel all the way.
Thank you once again. I shall see you when I see you.
There's nothing stronger than those two warriors, patience and time.
-WAR AND PEACE, Leo Tolstoy
P.S. I really am sorry that it is still paid through Patreon. My money situation is actually worsening, so I really need this.

Man, I could not place the text in a way that fit and also was short, so please bear with my inexperience. The text comes from Cindanwe's notebook, oblivion.

I already got both endings already but I’m still confused on how I can achieve the true ending of AE?

Or she'll be falling apart right in front of you, can't you see?

I'm not sure how I got both learned rebellion and selfish conformity, as those seem to be entirely opposite of each other

So a friend of mine was trying to get the Superego ending, but he took Ego Rex a little too seriously and was trying to complete all the books instead-

I recently completed the game, and I have searched for quite a while and came across three Liberator, Controller, Es Worshipper. Idk, if Es Worshipper is true tho (I mean... Guilty as charged, I also touched her a lot) yet I DIDN'T GET IT!!!
Umm... So yeah... Can you guys share like a link where the description of all the chosen paths and how to reach them is?
Also which chosen path did you get? Does it align with you? For me, the Liberator aligned quite well. Though, it may be possible just because the sample size is too large, and people can generally find similarities, even under a descriptive personality.

"It Couldn't Be Worse Than This" is a doujin manga series whose existence is pivotal to the eventual development and creation of ALTER EGO, to the point where the main character, Gigiko, is the essential blueprint to what would become Es as a character later on. These details will be discussed in a future post documenting some of ALTER EGO's development. For now, this post will focus on this collaboration manga.
For all intents and purposes, this manga is not technically official. It is not acknowledged by or endorsed by Caramel Column, and while it originates from the man that created the art for ALTER EGO, it, like other manga featuring Es he created, are derivative works from the official IP. That being said, the contents of this manga were something I deemed to be worth sharing, especially given the obscure nature of its release and lack of publicity both in Japan and in the world at large.
For reference purposes, "It Couldn't BE Worse Than This" is a soft yuri manga depicting the relationship between Momoko Kawagishi (Gigiko) and her partner Mariya Nanami. The episodic stories depict the two as they sort through Gigiko's philosophy towards her works, society, sexuality, and creative blocks, with the more composed Nanami acting as someone for Gigiko to bounce off of. This one shot, as befitting its inclusion in the short story compilation, is a one-off collaboration work with no greater ties to the story at large.
That being said, it is interesting to see Es show up in all sorts of places and one of Es' creators' interpretations of the world of ALTER EGO and having his characters interact with our beloved librarian.
Hope you enjoy the translation, and please support the official releases when they ever become available again.
Until next time.
"Today's conversation ends here, though, okay?"

So i have so many questions after playing complex and main game.
Like how can Es dream? Or is the library (in alter ego) where the player meets Es a dream or what ?.
I think Es represents the player's inner instincts and desires. So whenever they meet it's actually just the players looking into themselves and the whole plot happens in the players head.
But my dumbass childish brain wants to think Es is just a lonely girl who is bound to the library that holds the knowledge of the universe to serve as the librarian.
And us the player is the traveler who happens to meet her in one of our adventures.

From what time period/year do you think Es would have been born in?
r/TheTempleOfEs • u/NoExamination4525 • Aug 09 '26
So, I have looked around and found some sites like the Caramel Column official site, Amazon, and Booth. Based on what I see though, a lot of stuff that are interesting for me to get are either no longer available, or cannot be shipped to where I live. Although, I am going to Japan on December and I'd rather buy it there.
If anyone knows any locations I should check out to find Alter Ego merch in Japan, I'd really appreciate it. And if anyone can guide me how to buy stuff online on other sites I did not mention, that'd be great too.
