Movies and Music Cool Little Record Shop

Hey y'all, just finished a quick trip through a few cities, ending in Bangkok. While I was walking through a flea market area, I stumbled across this cramped little record shop. If you are a crate digger, this place is an excellent find. The owner spent a good 15 minutes finding his best Molam records to play in store. I didn't have any space in my suitcase to bring back records, but if I did, this is where I would shop. Cool shop, cool owner, interesting neighborhood. (Just around the corner i found a guy selling all sorts of wooden penii with sak yant written on them including an airplane made of them)

So if you like older Thai music and or vinyl, give this shop a browse.

They do have some western vinyl. Did the google maps link not post? Here is the location. The name is Tonchabap

I visited the shop yesterday. Unfortunately there was nobody there and the entrance was blocked with a chair. I wouldn't be so rude as to enter without permission.

I'm still glad I went. I was able to peer inside and what I saw was exactly as you described. We should appreciate shops like this for as long as we can because they are rapidly dying out.

Thanks mate. I can see it's close to the Chao Prya river. I arrived in Thailand yesterday and staying for six weeks. I'm thinking of making a little mission of finding this record shop. Places like you've described are dying out all over the world so I'm keen to take a look while I can

I'd never heard of Molam before your post. I'm assuming they are all in Thai and you'd have to have a good understanding of the language to appreciate. The record covers look cool

My thai is limited to numbers and polite phrases. I just dig the style of singing and the use of funk and disco beats. My thai friends all kinda gave me a side eye for listening to such old countryside style music. I think it might be better because my thai is so poor. My Korean sister in law loves a lot of 80s pop that has the corniest lyrics. I can't get into it, but she really gets down to that sort of stuff.

Thanks for the info. Like you, it would be difficult to take vinyl back on the plane. I'll let you know how I get on
