I've been trying to ID the band behind this "You don't wanna kiss me tonight" 3rd wave ska song for almost 20 years and I just received the answer! I originally taped this song off the radio and it has stumped everyone who has given it a listen. A lot of people have tried to help out with this over the years and I appreciate everyone who tried to solve this by sharing with others.

This song was used in the movie "Telling You" from 1998 (IMDB link). It plays around the 17-18 minute mark and according to the credits, the song is called "You Don't Want to Kiss Me Tonight" performed by a band called Bakersfield. Written by Mark Brookman, Joel Clelland, Jerry Clifft, Sean Hall, and Brandon Smith. Here's a screencap of the credits. It looks like there is another track by them that I want to track down!

I'm still looking into these details so I can learn more about this band and how it came to be.

Someone named "Donnie Brasco" found this song played during the movie "Telling You" from 1998, the band playing it is called Bakersfield.

• In 1997/1998, I taped this song off the radio. This recording was from a San Diego radio station called “The Flash” 92.5 that played ska songs for an hour or so once a week during a program called "Ska Tunes". It was a mix of local San Diego bands and more mainstream ska. There was nothing else recorded on the tape that would give any hints. That program and radio station are long gone.
• In 2018, I tracked down the host from that radio show (“Little John”) and he doesn't recall. He says: “My guess is if you can’t find it online, I probably played a tape or vinyl in the studio. Most likely from a local San Diego or Orange County band”.

i REEEALLLY appreciate ska and ska punk. i was introduce to it by my dad when i was like- 7. my first ever ska band (and my favorite ever ska band) was goldfinger. ska actually really helped me develop my style and become the dude i am today!

However, it will NOT appear when searching for "Supernova" on Veeps or by clicking the link to Veeps in the email from Tim at Supernova.

For whatever reason, it is located under "Supernova Ska Fest Merch & More" on Veeps and not under "Upcoming Events."

So if you don't want to pay $12.99 for each day, you can save a couple bucks but they don't make it easy to do so. I only found the 2-day pass after paying for each day separately.

I’m attending Supernova (for the first time!) by myself next weekend and camping at the campground nearby. Since I’m going by myself, I’m hoping to make friends I can hang out with throughout the weekend.

I gather the crowd is pretty friendly, but for others going or who have been - do you have any tips for making friends beyond just chance encounters? Anywhere I should go or things I should do? Or, anyone want to hang out?

FWIW, about me, I’m a 30-something Jeff Rosenstock superfan (his playing is what put the festival on my radar). My first love is punk but I’ve always loved ska too. Excited to get in the pit and skank with all y’all next weekend!

Sullvn was the opening act for the show tonight. They aren't great, but whatever. Then, as always, they bring out Dicky. A teenage girl in the crowd flicked him off (as she should). Sullivan calls for security to throw her out ( She just flicked him off, security ignored it). Then Dicky goes into the actual crowd to yell at a teen girl for flicking him off. What fucking snowflakes these assholes are.
